Dobby is such a sweetheart and he thoroughly enjoyed his massage treatment today ❤️ I am quite in love with this boy 🥰

He is quite a nervous little soul and can get quite anxious so it was lovely to see him so relaxed with me.

🌟 Magic in My Hands! ✨

Just received the most heartwarming message from a satisfied client! 🐾💌

"Hello! Just checking in after Friday's amazing session. Indie slept all weekend and the majority of yesterday. But today, she is back to being her playful, puppy-like self! It's so funny and adorable. Whatever you did was pure magic!" ✨💫

Nothing brings me greater joy than seeing the positive impact of a canine massage. Being able to provide comfort and relief to our furry friends is truly magical! 🙌🏼🐶❤️

If your pup is experiencing any discomfort or pain, don't hesitate to reach out. Let's work together to bring back the sparkle in their eyes and the spring in their step! 🌟🐾

😴 Indie was quite tired after today's treatment!

What a great way to finish my week 😊 I think I have fallen for Indie and her brother (from another mother, and father). They are so adorable and very loving. ❤️🥰❤️

Indie was so relaxed following the session and her owner reported that she's seen positive results. Indie is now more bouncy and is seeming more like her old self. It's wonderful to see the positive impact that massage can have 🥰🐕

🤍 Had a lovely treatment with Grace today 🖤

🤍 Grace likes to have her treatments on the sofa with a cushion to rest her head on 🖤 Also her brother, Buddy, is now quite used to me and just goes to sleep on the other end of the sofa 🤍

🤍 She is now so relaxed about our sessions and she communicates with me so beautifully 🖤

🥰 I think that experiencing this trust and communication is the best part of the job for me 🥰

🤎 Yesterday I treated Ruby. I already have a relationship with Ruby as I sometimes dog sit for her. You may think that this would make her more ready for a massage with me.... 🤔

🐾 It didn't 😂 She found the different intention a little worrying and this resulted in a lot of face licking (her licking my face, not the other way around 😉😂). I took my time, gave her space and choice and she did come around.

🐾 I managed to do some short stints of massage after which she would wander off for a sniff. This gave her time to process what had just happened and then she could choose to return when she felt ready.

🥰 Choice-led massage treatment can have a bit of a slow start but I do find it pays off. Once the dog learns to trust and communicate with their therapist they will be happier to undergo deeper massage techniques and will often guide our treatments by offering the areas that they feel need treating. They are incredibly intuitive if given the freedom to express it 🐶❤️

❤️ Indie had her third treatment yesterday and it went so well. I really felt the connection between us starting to grow.

🤔 However, it was a little unconventional as she decided that she would like to lay back on the cushions for her treatment 😂 She did seem happy so I continued to work on her like this.

🥰 As an extra bonus I met her brother, Melo, yesterday. (related by adoption, not blood) He was a gentle giant with a big bark. He did decide he'd rather have a bum scratch than bark at me though, so another friend made there 🥰

Meet Indie 😍I adore this girl, she is just so lovable 🥰

Yesterday I was lucky enough to meet and treat Bruno. He is such a gentle giant ❤️ He is a big boy for a Weimaraner but has such a peaceful and calm manner about him, he was a true joy to work with 🥰

🐾 This was his first treatment so I spent some time discussing Bruno's lifestyle with his owner. We talked about his health, mobility and his personality. We also discussed changes that could be made to Bruno's lifestyle to support him and offer him more comfort. His Dad is very much on board and already does so much to keep Bruno as comfortable and mobile as possible so I feel that the massage treatments, functional exercises and environmental changes will soon have us seeing a positive change for this boy 😊

I had a little supervisor today while treating the lovely Fergus! His little sister kept an eye on my techniques for a little while then decided to try to muscle in on the action. Cheeky girl! 😂🥰🥰
Check the comments to see how she felt she could best get my attention off of Fergus and onto her 😂

⛄ What does your dog think of the snow?
❤️ Buster loves it!
😔 But I know that he can't cope with the cold so well these days so I've had to split his walks into shorter ones 🐕
❄️ Also he got so excited yesterday morning that he ate too much snow and left himself feeling a bit off afterwards 🙄 He isn't getting any wiser with age 😂🥰

As a Galen Canine Myotherapist people often think I only treat old or arthritic dogs. This is not true! While I love treating the oldies, I can also treat sporting and working dogs. 🐶

These active dogs can benefit from regular maintenance treatments, while extra sessions can help if there is a muscle strain or tension perhaps from a slip or fall.

Just like if you go to a physio, regular treatments maintain healthy muscle function and can enhance flexibility. In turn, this can reduce the risk of injury and optimise performance.

Minor muscular injuries can impact your dog's speed and agility even if they are not causing visible discomfort. In addition, they can build up as repetitive strain injuries, eventually leading to lameness or chronic pain.

If you would like to know more please get in contact. Your dog will thank you for it! 🐶🥰

(Thank you to Lisa and Jon for allowing me to use a picture of their lovely Ruby 😍🥰)

Otto showed me his favourite toy after his treatment this week. It isn't your usual dog toy but it is Otto's favourite 🚙❤️

Otto has been seeing me following TPLO surgery last year after rupturing the cranial cruciate on his right side. After the surgery he was still offloading that limb and had lost muscle tone. This has also caused changes in the musculature on other areas of his body as his posture and gait adjusted to his adapted weight bearing. He showed improvements over the spring and so had a break from treatments over the summer but his owners recently noticed some signs of him being less comfortable and that he was starting to offload that limb again. He had a check by the vet, just to check there was nothing new going on, before I returned to treat him this week. I am hoping his owners will soon see some positive changes.

Love this boy ❤️❤️🥰

So, what did we think of the .
It was good!! 😊
It definitely helped. It provided some good grip on the hard floors, in fact, initially I thought the floors were not as slippery as I remembered the last time we were there. However, as it wore off I noticed Buster starting to slip and realised that the Paw Friction was really making a difference!
I did have to re-apply on the 4th day but, considering Buster was walking 2-3 miles a day on varied surfaces and was getting wet and muddy and having paws dried, I felt that was actually quite good.
Once you have muddled through the first application (I ended up with it all over my fingertips too. Oopsie!) further applications are much easier.
Also Buster didn't react to having it on at all. No licking, nibbling or gait changes.
I will definitely use it again and will recommend it to clients.

Photo is of buster at showing that he gave Paw Friction a good test 🥰😂

We are staying in a cottage next week that has hard floors. I don't want Buster slipping and sliding so I am trying to see if it helps 🐾🐾
I'm not sure how well it will stay on as he does still do quite a lot of walking.
I'll let you know how it goes next week 🤞😊

I treated the rather lovely Fergus today. I feel that he is really understanding the choice-led principles of our Galen Myotherapy treatments now ❤️

Today he offered up his left armpit and elbow area to me. This is an area that he often doesn't like having treated and palpated but he seemed sure today that he wanted me to work there. As a result I got to work on his overworked triceps muscles and I really felt them really soften up as I worked.

It is quite an incredible feeling when a dog trusts you enough to offer an area that is potentially quite sore. Thank you for trusting me Fergus 🥰🥰

Today I would like to talk to you about Busters ''. It is a small and light activity tracker that fits onto his collar. It tracks how much he moves during the day and night. I find it really useful to help me to track and manage his arthritis pain. Arthritic dogs benefit hugely from having a consistent amount of exercise each day. No weekend warrioring for Buster!

🐾 Using his pit pat I can keep an eye on how much exercise he is getting each day. This is very useful when he is doing different activities such as his weekly scent work class. I also found this particularly useful while on our holiday when he was really out of routine and having lots of short walks a day - each lunchtime I could look at the app and work out how much more walking he could manage and if it showed he'd had a busy day we knew to take it easier the next day.

🐾 I have also noticed that it shows more movement overnight as his pain levels rise. This shows me that he is struggling to get comfortable overnight and is one of the measures I use to gauge when I need to increase or can decrease his anti inflammatories and manage his complementary therapies.

I am sharing a few pictures of the information that I get for Buster including one that shows him unsettled all night - that night he had an upset stomach 💩🤢 and I hadn't realised quite how unsettled he had been until I saw this reading.

Of course the pitpat is only useful if you always leave your dogs collar on so if you remove your dogs collar when indoors it will not be as useful. There are other brands that make fitness trackers for dogs but I have been very pleased with the pitpat and their customer service so far. 👍

Today I'd like to talk about walking. 🐕🚶

Julia Robertson of Galen Myotherapy has written a great blog about how powerful slow walking is for our dogs. Have a read of it - the link is at the bottom of this post.

Watch your dog walking, see if you can recognise these gaits - walk, trot, pace.

While big dogs can often keep up with us in a walking gait often small dogs have to revert to a trot or pace gait just to keep up. If your dog does this then slow down a bit and let them walk 🐾🐾

Don't forget to let them sniff too. Whenever buster walks he enjoys checking the pee-mails left by the other village dogs and often leaves them a reply too! 😉😂

What would your dog's pee-mail say to the other dogs who follow and read it? Buster's would say "anyone know of any abandoned tennis balls in the area?" 🥎

We have just got home from a couple of weeks away. Holiday with an older dog with arthritis can be quite challenging. There is a lot to think about
🐾 Trying to maintain a fairly constant level of activity (especially when activities can be so different to his usual walks)
🐾 Making sure he has a comfy bed to sleep on and gets enough rest each day
🐾 Managing his anti-inflammatories (which I have increased to allow for the different exercise he has been doing)

Luckily he seems to have managed pretty well. He has had some short massage treatments, mainly concentrating on his neck as he has been on the lead and harness so much this last couple of weeks (and he does pull when excited). He has also had a couple of short reiki treatments. Lucky Buster gets to take one of his therapists on holiday!!

Join CAM's big walk and find out more about canine arthritis. It is a disease that most dog owners will need to deal with at some point in their dog's life so make you you go into it with as much knowledge as possible.

PS no walking is actually necessary for 'the big walk' 😉😂

I am very pleased to say that I have been accepted by Photizo UK as a registered Photizo practitioner and will be integrating Photizo treatment into my canine therapeutic massage appointments.
The Photizo tool offers a boost to healing through red and near infrared light. It is effective in accelerating the natural healing processes of your body, reducing swelling and inflammation, stimulating your immune system and relieving pain caused by underlying health conditions or injuries.
So as you can see it will perfectly complement my Galen Myotherapy treatments.

Please welcome Tracey from Canine Myotherapy by Tracey who has joined our Photizo Practitioners!

Tracey is a registered Galen Canine Myotherapist covering Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas.

"I have used Photizo on my own dog, having been introduced to it by another therapist. I now incorporate it into the treatments I offer and recommend it to clients for use between treatments"

Welcome Tracey! 🐾
