Today was a heavy blow for fellow keepers in Florida. The amendment put in place by FWC is unjust, based on zero science or proven facts, and is extreme over reaching to say the least. The ban of large constrictors, tegus and iguanas is not going to help with what is happening in the Southern part of Florida. Keepers of large constrictors like Burmese and Reticulated Pythons must now rehome their beloved pets out of state as fast as possible as it's unknown if FWC will actually grandfather any of the permit holding pet owner's or breeder's animals. If they are not grandfathered, the animals must leave the state or have the animals euthanized- either by the owner's will and money or by surrendering the animal to FWC for euthanasia. The CSP permit that was already instated was a compromise keepers could work around; literally the same specifications that zoos have to follow. But now CSP permits will mean nothing and the animals are in danger with a proverbial noose around their necks.
This is government overreach.
Thank you to everyone who called into the meeting today to have your voices heard-even if they fell on deaf ears.
This fight will not stop. They can't beat us that easily.
My heart is with all of my Floridan keepers, breeders, and enthusiasts.
I Stand With USARK and will continue to fight this. Florida isn't the only state we need to have our attention on. Illinois, New York, South Carolina are just a few with proposed bans that are not backed with any factual evidence, proven science, or anything. Just fear mongering from the media and money lined pockets from organizations like HSUS and PETA.
They can't break us no matter how much they try to beat us down. We will always stand. We will always fight.
Please, instead of spending that $5 on a Starbucks, please send it to USARK. Every dollar matters to help in this fight. This is about ALL keepers: Reptile, Amphibian, Inverts. Everyone must join the fight to keep our animals that we are passionate about
