We’ve all been there, whether it’s you saying the words ‘my dog just loves to say hello to everyone’ or you’re the one holding a lead watching a dog fly over to you and your fearfully reactive dog...
We’ve also seen all the post wars of who’s to blame. So I have written a blog on my website to help give some understanding as to what’s really going on from both POV.

Bonfire night is almost upon us, which means we’ll soon have multiple if not hundreds of fireworks displays and parties happening.
So why don’t you get your pup ready by helping them, rather than be letting them afraid. Teach them the sound is ok.

Method.
You can start playing firework sounds through your phone at low volume. Do not tell your dog ‘No’. Do you say ‘It’ll be ok’. Do not prep them. Just wait and act normal. The moment they are calm and do not reacting - reward with a treat and ‘we’ll done’. If they do not react from the start use ‘well done once’ treat them and then higher the volume slightly.
Repeat five times. End session.

Repeat again in the afternoon.
Then higher the volume and repeat.
Keep doing this over.

*IMPORTANT*
Do not practice this method when they are bouncing around full of energy.
Do not start with the volume loud. Only start it at a sound they are comfortable.
Be patient
Stop immediately if your dog is becoming stressed.

Only praise and reward when they are calm. Use a low tone to praise so not to make them excitable.

Make it gradual. 30mins at a time and once they are relaxed. Finish on a positive note.
Build them up.

🐕‍🦺🐶 Puppy Classes coming soon. Reserve your place now!! 🐶🐕‍🦺

Our classes are all about the 'Whys': Why we do what we do. The GDTA puts 'Training on its head’ in showing you how your dog needs to be taught not, how just to get your dog to obey. My aim is to teach owners how to understand their puppies, helping them to raise a healthy, well balanced dog whilst guiding them to their full potential.

Classes will start 10th Nov
Puppies age 12-20wks

When getting a dog, always make sure it’s for the right reasons. Humans decided on the name owner, but really we should be guardians to them.

To all the dog owners out there, this dry weather is making these grass darts lethal to dogs. I’ve personally seen dogs have them embedded in their paws, legs, ears, eyes, throat and even one instance where it must have gotten into the dogs mouth (whilst chasing a ball) and it worked its way out of the dogs cheek from the inside out! 🫣🤢. I’ve not long gotten back from a short walk and pulled 9 of these out of my dogs coat. To stroke him with the hair you wouldn’t know they were there. You need to brush against the hair ensuring you go through the coat with your fingers.

SO. ON. POINT. 👏🏻
📷 In this photo you see two species, a human and a dog. The human has approximately 1 billion neurons in their brain while the canine has appoximately 500 million. This is a comparison of the two species and the silly expectations people place on dogs:

1) Human - Given two plus years to accomplish potty training.
1) Canine - Human wants canine potty trainined in two weeks or they will have to rehome the dog....Please take the diaper off your eight month old human and let them crawl around your floor, lets just see the results....

2) Human - Gives human babies pain relievers and various numbing agents to help appease the pain of teething.
2) Canine - Demands Dog Trainer tells them how to reprimand their dog for chewing.

3) Human - Encourages young humans to run and play with endless forms of mental and physical stimulation.
3) Canine - “I have got to teach this dog to calm down!!!”

4) Human - Given 20 plus years to complete an education and become a productive member of society.
4) Canine - Expected to behave flawlessly after 6 weeks of training.

5) Human - Given sick and personal days from work and endless excuses for poor performance.
5) Canine - Expects to perfom perfectly 365 days a year with no questions asked. Canines are also not allowed to feel bad or forget.

6) Human - Expects a pay raise anually for the job they perform.
6) Canine - Humans demand their dog perform more every year and don’t believe they should reward the dog for the work they perform.

Dear human....If you don’t train, don’t complain!"
