We are now 3 weeks into treatment so here’s a little update …

Since Deru has started on the gabapentin & therapy I have not noticed much difference (aside from a small reduction in fore limb dragging) so are our options are to potentially increase the gabapentin to 3 tablets per dose & we should start to see improvements with six weeks. If there is no difference after the six weeks of laser therapy also then we potentially may need to get a new MRI scan of the head and neck as it’s definitely neurological.
The muscle mass around his neck is fine so there is no indication that he can’t weight bare his head. We could potentially get a neck brace for Deru to help his head carriage as if he carries on holding his head the way it is he could strain the neck muscles which will cause him more pain.

Sorry for the long old post but I guess I’m using this platform as a diary as well for myself 🙏🏼♥️ keeping everything crossed for this guy x

My boy … this may seem like a very random question but this has been on my mind more so since we got back from our holidays & I’ve seen the 2 boys struggle… if you’ve had family dogs previously what age did they live until? 🥺

They always say you know deep down when it’s time & I definitely don’t think we’re at that point yet but I constantly keep thinking about their quality of life, do we keep trying to walk them or stop completely? Are they on enough pain relief? I just want them to be happy & I feel like an ignorant dog Mum if I do nothing.. 🥹🥺😩

My squiffy lip boy 🤍 that fresh spring air made an appearance once more over the weekend & what a treat it was 🫶🏼

I was actually in Keswick which was a beautiful mini break so the boys were left in capable hands at home. Keswick left me daydreaming of earlier days when every weekend was filled with Lake District adventures with the three amigos… feet pounding up the mountains & a pub treat at the bottom 🐾⛰️ those were the days!

The first weekend in a long time we’ve actually done ‘nothing’… by that I mean we haven’t had plans to dash out the house or the kids have to be places etc…. 🙈 despite the rain today we’ve actually have a super chilled day, lots of cuddles & films & done some bits in the garden (we’re having a huge Reno & can’t wait to share once it’s finished) 😍

Deru my darling… 9 today!!!! 🎂🥳each year you keep on giving, bringing us joy & the best cuddles ever! You really have amazed every single one of us…

When we adopted you we wasn’t really sure on what we were getting, we knew the extend of your injuries & knew you’d need constant rehab. From physiotherapy to hydrotherapy, laser treatments to endless vets trips, you were 100% worth it!!!! You really are the sweetest most loving dog ever & we feel truly blessed to have you with us. From being unable to walk to stomping the 3 peaks with us to raise money for the charity who rescued you, you are a legend!

We love you!!! Happiest of birthdays my boy 🩵🐾🎂

Realistic…. I can’t lie, since becoming a Mum of two children (5 if you include the gingers) life has been a WHIRLWIND! Nothing prepared me for the love this brings but also the chaos, the illnesses have been relentless since before Christmas, the amount of things you have to rearrange due to it, the sacrifices you have to make. Is it worth it… 100% yes! Is it the hardest thing I’ve ever done…. 1000000% yes!!!!!!
I know our adventures aren’t what they used to be but we’re here to say thanks for sticking by us …. The OG’s you legends! The newbies… we love ya 🫶🏼🫶🏼

Struck down by the sickness bug

This morning I actually feel somewhat human again but the past couple of days my god I’ve felt rough. The kids, the grandparents & me were all struck down with this awful@sickness bug that’s been doing the rounds 🤢 all I will say is having two poorly children at the same time whilst your poorly is hard!!!

Bring on the Spring weather & change now… I’m so ready for it!!! 🌤️🌺🌱

What a week 😮‍💨
All 3 boys are at the vets tomorrow for their annual checks & vaccinations but I’m also wanting them all checking for various things. Derus movement seems to be becoming more & more restricted unfortunately so I want to check for any sweeping around his spinal cord etc. Arthur is struggling a little with his back, he has some definite weak & tender spots which seems to be hindering him. And Alfie’s limp is still very present, the muscle wastage on his shoulder now is a huge amount & we’ve found another couple of lumps on him so want those checking too. 🙏🏼

The perks of them getting older eh?! 🙈🥹
