It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas biscuits!

We're getting ready for our annual Christmas show next Sunday 15th December 🐾🐾

Held at where the dog friendly cafe will be open, serving all the usual amazing hot drinks and festive food 🍰 ☕

These biscuit bags will be available in the cafe for your furry friends - one per dog free of charge as a Christmas present from Houndspeak 🎁

Judging will begin at 11am, with all entries pay on the day as you come into the ring 🐕🐶

We will also have our mini Christmas market, so if you know of any small businesses who would love a stall, tag them on this post and get them to pop us a message! 🎁

***BRAND NEW WORKSHOP!!***

We are incredibly lucky to have Danielle Beck - Clinical Animal Behaviourist coming to Houndspeak!!

This is suitable for all dogs, but is especially useful for those who lack focus or confidence, get over excited easily and struggle to calm themselves back down or are reactive in any way.

A bit about Danielle and the workshop….

Join Danielle Beck Clinical Animal Behaviourist and Certified Control Unleashed Instructor in this workshop as Danielle explains how utilising control unleashed pattern games can build strong foundations for reactive dogs and those lacking confidence to help them learn how to cope, build confidence and increase responsiveness to you

Let me introduce you to the ‘Power Of The Pattern’ and how these simple exercises can help to build predictability and boost confidence in your handling skills with your dog and help them to control their meerkat, through simple and effective self-regulation exercises. Learn how to teach the most effective of the patterns for reactivity and how to apply them in different situations to really strengthen the relationship and confidence between dog and handler, regardless of the distraction. We even cover how these exercises can be used to help your dog calm down if they do react to ensure you know how to handle things together and really control their Meerkat!

Pattern games help your dog to regulate themselves by ‘controlling their meerkat’ and focusing on you!

Date: 8th and 9th February

Price: £100 for one day, £185 for the weekend.
Spectator spaces available: £25 for one day, £40 for the weekend.

The cafe will be open as usual and the dog field is bookable via the Tuppenhurst website if you need to run your dog!

**Please note:
This is a full day workshop, so dogs must be comfortable spending time in their cars between turns.
Reactive dogs will be catered for, but full details of their reactivity must be discussed with us first, to ensure that it is a positive and safe learning experience for them and everyone else.

We’ve been working hard on the January timetables…and we are now ready to take bookings!!

All held at in our dedicated training barn, in Handsacre just outside of Lichfield 🐾 🐾

Tuesday: Starting 14th January
⭐️ 7:15 Confidence and resilience

Wednesday: Starting 15th January
⭐️ 6PM: Puppy/ Starters

Thursday: Starting 23rd January
⭐️ 5:30: Competitive obedience
⭐️ 7:15: Good citizens: all levels

Saturday: Starting 11th January
⭐️ 10AM: Pub dog sessions
⭐️ 1:30: Scentwork for fun
⭐️ 3PM: Confident health care handling skills

**New class: helping your dogs feel confident and happy about being handled, groomed, examined by other people…all the things that will help your dog at the vet, groomer or just at home!

Sunday: Starting 12th January

⭐️ 10:30: Puppy/ starters
⭐️ 12PM: Trick dog: all levels
⭐️ 2:15: Sports dog foundations

**New class: suitable for anyone who is wanting to perfect their timing, work through frustration, build confidence and a want for training. Ask us for more details!

**New class: suitable for anyone who is working on their gold, or for those who have passed gold, but would like to continue their training.

November is coming to a close but we've only just realised that it's been Epilepsy Awareness month 💜

Unfortunately the Houndspeak household has both human and canine experience of epilepsy, as Dairylea and Tracey are both epileptic.

Ironically both developed the condition in 2021!

Thankfully Dairylea is stable on her medication and with careful management of her excitement and stress levels, she is none the wiser 🐾🐾

For Tracey we're not quite at a point when medication is able to control her seizures, but we are so grateful everyday for Dizzy who naturally alerted to them and is now an assistance dog 🐶

Saturday social walk and pub training!

We have space for another couple of dogs to join us for tomorrow’s session.

These sessions are for any dog, including those who do not want to meet others, but are comfortable walking alongside dogs at a distance.

We do a (normally muddy…wear sensible footwear!!!) walk, followed by practicing your training skills inside the pub, with drinks and gossip encouraged!

10.30am start at the Star Inn, Burntwood.
Sessions cost £20. Message to book!

We've headed up to York this afternoon for a couple of days 🐾🐾

An early birthday treat for Tracey, as she has a December birthday which sometimes gets a bit lost in the festive season! 🎁 🎄

Another busy week here at Houndspeak!

On Thursday this week, we headed over to Solihull College again, to talk about the welfare of assistance dogs 🐶 🦮

Dizzy very much enjoyed the "networking opportunities" at the end of the session and we know the students also loved doggy cuddles at the end of a busy day 🥰

This was the venue for Dizzy's final assessment with earlier this year.

She will be doing annual re-assessments to make sure she's still at the highest level of training 🐾🐾

Last weekend we had the lovely Lola, Lottie and Teddy join us for our walk and pub training session 🐾🐾

They all did fantastically, with some huge achievements each!

Warm drinks will definitely be on the cards tomorrow - winter seems to have arrived! 🥶 ❄️

Today we say a huge Houndspeak Happy Birthday to the newest member of our crew - Tedwin!

Tedwin joined us in January and is heaps of fun. With having a crew of 6 dogs with 4 of them boys, it took a bit of time to get the dynamics right with all that testosterone 🤣 but he's slotted in so well 🐾🐾

Tedwin is 3 years old today and as always, full of beans but always ready for a cuddle 🤗

We have the absolute pleasure of meeting so many lovely dogs and their owners in all of the different things we do at Houndspeak 💙

If you've been to our classes you'll know we're not that good at human names 🫣 but we definitely remember your dogs! And we love it when we hear how they're doing!

Puppies can be particularly challenging - even for dog trainers 😜 (no we haven't yet forgiven Tayto for being an absolute nightmare 🤣) but it does get better!

So tonight it was fantastic to hear how well Archie is doing 😍 and we're looking forward to seeing him again at our next Confidence and Resilience course, as well as some one to one help with his loose lead walking 🐾 🐾

Our super popular Confidence and Resilience course starts next week - this will be the last one of these courses before Christmas!

🐕 build confidence for nervous dogs
🐕 reduce over excitement for confident dogs
🐕help puppies get off to the right start

This course is fabulous for puppies, over the top or easily frustrated dogs and dogs who need a little more confidence.

This course will start on Wednesday 13th November at 6pm - held at our training barn in Handsacre near Lichfield

Cost of the course is £80 including a certificate and rosette for successful completion.

Saturday we had a fantastic time on our group walk and pub training session at ! 🐾🐕

Harvey, Ralphie, Anabel, Sasha, Darcy and Shelby all had a great walk together and then chilled out perfectly in the pub ☕🍻

We have a few spaces left for this Saturday 🤩 these sessions must be pre booked and cost £20 per dog.

The walk starts at 10.30am from the Star Inn Burntwod and our training session is held inside the pub after the walk.

Sorry for the slower than usual responses at the moment 😔 we're trying to manage the fireworks for Dairylea as much as possible, as it can make her very poorly with her epilepsy 🎆🎇

We drove out to the middle of nowhere yesterday and still came back to more bangs after midnight 😞

Thankfully only one of the crew struggles - keep safe everyone 🐾🐾

Happy Halloween! 🎃

George was looking spooktacular on his walk today! 👻

Halloween can bring trick or treaters as well as fireworks, which some dogs may find stressful 🎆 🍭

Things which may help include -

Putting a sign saying no trick or treaters please as you will scare our dog - maybe even popping some sweets out in a bowl with it!

Classical music or Taiko drumming music

Thundershirt or homemade anxiety wrap

Pet Remedy spray

Medication if this is something you've discussed with your vet

🐾 and most importantly remember that reassuring a scared dog does not reward their fear.... It's ok to comfort them!
