A happy ending to a late night visit for one of our vets! 🤩🤩

Wednesday was a late night when we had to call Seafield Vets at 2AM to assist with a calving.

The calf was presented back to front and upside down and it was a big calf. Doina, the vet, attended and carried out a caesarean section. It took the three of us to lift the calf up and out. The calf was an Angus bull and weighed in at over 55Kg which is about 10Kg heavier than a typical bull calf. It isn't always a good result for the calf in this situation but thankfully everything turned out well and Doina did a great job.

This cow is a bit of a boss and eats her fair share! That and the cow being past her due date meant the calf was bigger than normal and with him not presented in the correct position this was going to be the only successful out come. Luckily we don't have this issue very often and we won't breed from this cow again.

FARMING SUSTAINABILITY SCHEME

As some of you may be aware the government are offering £250 to investigate into several common issues often seen.

The intervention areas are as follows:

- Bull Fertility
- Calf Respiratory Disease
- Cattle: Liver Fluke
- Cattle: Roundworms
- Sheep Scab
- Sheep Lameness
- Sheep: Liver Fluke
- Sheep: Roundworms

We would be more than happy to help discuss a plan to investigate any of these on your farm, and develop a plan to help within these areas, all while knowing up to £250 will be covered by the government.
