Please share or donate if you can 💞

“Oh but his tail was wagging” ; a phrase I hear all to often…
🐕🦺I’m afraid a moving tail does not always mean “happy”. Tails move when the dog is aroused, and arousal can be positively and negatively driven!
👀So make you look at the whole body language before making assumptions about the emotions being expressed.
🦷 It could save you or someone else being bitten!
🤺This dog is displaying fear-based aggression to deter the ‘thing’ he’s looking at.
🕙Watch the tail… it goes 12:00 o’clock to 10:00 o’clock,
⏱️But never 12:00 to 2:00
🖐️ A left wag is not a good wag. Tails go to the left when experiencing a negative emotion like fear or stress.
If your dog barks at other dogs, please reach out to find out what your dog may really be thinking so that you can be their guidance ❤️

Is your dog a nuisance around other dogs? 🐕
If so, here’s some info for you that might help: ℹ️
🧍♂️ - finding the right dog and owner to stand at a distance and have a chat with can be really helpful.
👃 - whilst you’re standing chatting, scatter some treats on the floor for your dog to find. This will give them a distraction and will reduce the tense awkwardness that makes them want to greet.
👀 - notice these dogs looking around instead of at each-other?
This is called displacement behaviour and is a nice communication to each-other that they are no bother and are not a threat.
- practising this regularly can help your dog learn to sniff and distract themselves for next time!

🚨 Many of you will have heard the rule of “you can walk your puppy for 5 minutes per month of age” meaning if they 4 months old, they can walk for 20 minutes.
⏰ while this is there to protect growing joints from over-exercise, it can cause more harm than good.
🙋♀️ the problem with it is it’s too restrictive. It sounds like you can only have your puppy out for 20 minutes, but this is generally not enough time!
👀 whilst walking on a short lead on concrete for longer than this wouldn’t be good, being out and about watching, listening, stopping, or running freely could be done for much longer than 20 minutes in total!
🏃 it’s good for your puppy to be able to run about to build up muscles and strength and flexibility, so allowing them to explore the garden, play with friends or play in the field or on the beach with you is fine, and actually good for them!
🛑 just make sure the exercise is Puppy-led and you are stopping if they are slowing down or wanting to stop!
🕰️ And build up the time gradually!
🐶 TIP: drive your puppy to different places so they are getting used to new environments without getting tired before they get there!
(If you’re worrying about over-exercising your puppy, there’s a chance you are “under-exercising” them and “under-exposing” them. Puppies don’t need long walks but they do need regular movement. More harm will be done from your SLIPPY FLOORS and spending too long couped up in a CRATE!)
Be mindful, be careful & speak to a trainer, a vet and a vet physio if you’re not confident on what’s okay for your individual puppy!
🐶 they are all different with different needs!

❌ I often hear people call their dogs naughty for destroying their toys, but it’s worth remembering that dogs are designed to dissect animals! This is a fun and fulfilling part of their life and many pet dogs don’t get to practise this! 🙅♀️
💪 Giving them cheap toys, blankets, safe recyclables, paper etc can be good ways to help them feel good and get that need met
🦷 In some cases, dogs will want to destroy things excessively which often leads to you taking everything away from them, but there’s usually an underlying cause for this (tummy issues, mouth issues, pain or discomfort, muscles tension, boredom, wrong circulating hormones, wrong diet etc).
🚶 TOP TIP: make sure walks aren’t the only good part of your dogs day. Let them do things like this to feel stimulated and fulfilled throughout the day, not just being in the routine of being bored at home, waiting all day for that one exciting walk.
#dogs #chewing #destructivedog #teething #puppyteeth #collie #enrichment #dogtraining
Here’s a few things you’re not doing which could be the reason your dog doesn’t pay attention on walks:
❗️Engaging with your dog. If you don’t pay attention to them, they won’t pay attention to you. Don’t teach them that a walk is time for you to just walk and ignore eachother.
🍱 you haven’t built value in food or toys. Maybe you leave food down all day for it to become boring. Or maybe all your dogs fun in life comes from other dogs and squirrels instead of you? Take out treats or toys on a walk and have some fun!
🎤 you’re not following-through with verbal cues. You ask your dog to do something, but you let them ignore you and carry on doing what they were doing.
Has this got you thinking? 🤔 if it sounds familiar, book a call with me to discuss how I can help 😃🐾

I often advise against the use of retractable leads but here are some tips for using a flexi safely:
1. Buy a tape one not a corded one! This will result in less burns and will allow others to see your dog is on-lead! 🤚
2. Do NOT use on pavements or alongside roads. Use in open spaces where you’re dog could have some freedom but can’t be off-lead safely🚗
3. Attach to a harness not a collar and absolutely not a head-collar. Whiplash is a thing! ⚡️
4. Be careful using on beaches as the sand can cause malfunction 🏖️
5. Do not play fletch on a flexi as they will end up running full pelt to the end of it and you will be pulled off your feet at the same time! 🪁
6. Teach your dog a cue for walking close to you and a cue for a release to go ahead 🐕
7. Don’t let your dog pull at the end of the lead. Use voice cues rather than relying fully on the lead 🛑
8. Practise recall while using the flexi. 💯
9. Don’t allow them to play with dogs while on a flexi-lead as they can get tangled up. 🥊
10. Never have 2 dogs attached to one lead! 🐶
If you are stuck using a retractable lead and want to be able to let your dog off their lead, message me for some one to one recall training 🐕

Improving enagagement on walks will improve your dogs recall. 💨
Here are 3 tips you can use to get more engagement from your dog:
1. Before letting your dog off the lead, check they have their listening ears on! 👂
2. When out walking, change direction without telling your dog. They may be suprised that youre not following! 🏃
3. Reward your dog for checking in. When they look at you, chuck them a treat, a toy or even just tell them how wonderful they are, or run with them! 👀
And remember that allowing your dogs off their leads without a reliable recall will worsen their recall skills! So if youd like more advice on getting a better recall, send me a message or like this video for me to do more! 🐕

Is picking up your puppy going to make them scared of everything.. Answer: NO! ❌ While it’s partly true that if you never let your puppy walk around and experience things from ground level, they may become unfamiliar with how to cope with some scenarios, picking up your puppy can be really helpful and sometimes essential when socialising/exposing them.
Picking up your puppy may help to:
- 🐶make them feel safe in an overwhelming situation
- 💩Get them out of a situation that they don’t feel confident enough to leave themselves.
- 🥰Improve your bond and let your puppy know you are their safety net and will provide security
- 🐕Avoid them becoming scared of a certain event/noise/dog
- 🐒Give them time to calm down
Puppies need positive experiences! Just be careful not to pick them up all the time because of YOUR own anxiety 😄 #puppy #puppytraining#socialisation #puppysocialization #oswestry #shropshire #northwales #daschundpuppy
I couldn’t seem to teach him to say ‘no’ to this question! 😆🤔#blacklab #labrador #dogtraining#tricks #cantsayno
Playing fetch on repeat can be damaging to your dog; here are a few reasons why:
- 😮 over arousing: can cause hyperactivity and inability to settle
- ⛔️ becomes an addiction or obsession
- 😢 catching the ball becomes primary focus, pain will be secondary (basically, they will carry on despite feeling injury or pain, causing potentially serious damage)
- 🙆♂️over stretching without warming up
- 🏃🏻♀️repetitive strain injuries
- ⛑️massive wear and tear on soft tissue and joints
- 🤕choking risk
- 😱inappropriate objects (sticks) impale the back of their throat (first hand experience here 🖐️)
- 👃reduces the dogs likelihood of investigating the environment
- 🐩stops them sniffing which is important for well-being
- ❌can cause inappropriate barking
- 😴the stop/start nature is not good for the dogs endocrine system. That level of internal stress is unhealthy on their body, and long term effects can be impaired immune systems etc.
- 👊over compensation will cause an imbalance of muscle development
Do you play fetch a lot? Hopefully this video will give you some alternatives games you can teach your dog instead, which will be much better for their health! #oswestry #fetch #dogtrainingmemes #tennisballaddict #ballgames #dogsofinstagram #dogtraining #tip

Who am I?
I first got into dog training 8 years ago, when I got my first pup, Misty, the springer. Like most first-time spaniel owners, me and my family soon realised we needed to book into some puppy school classes so we could make sure we actually understood this animal that was now the forefront of our lives. We attended puppy school classes, led by Karen Boyce; Behaviourist of the year 2019, and followed on with classes ever since. A few years ago, I began assisting with the classes and events, and the rest is history. Dog training became an addiction, a healthy one…even though it keeps me up at night and takes over some of my social life. But for someone who has never known what they wanted to do in life, this was great. I had something I loved doing and always wanted to know more about! My perception of dogs completely changed. I soon realised that there are so many dog owners struggling out there, and sadly, so many dogs (actually, MOST) are misunderstood. Obviously 3 or 4 times a week training dogs wasn’t enough, so I had to set up this business to get more of what I love; teaching owners how to understand their canine companions, and get the most out of them, seeing them put the work in and achieving results. Every session is so rewarding, whether I am out with a dog, or in the home with the whole family.
For many owners, a class environment isn’t suitable, whether that’s due to their embarrassment of the dog or the dog itself being too stressed or too distracted. That’s part of the reason why I do personal training sessions; it’s convenient for all involved, and I can put my whole focus on you and make sure we get to where we want to be... I say WE because I am in this with you. If something isn’t working for you, I will always think of another way to make it as easy as possible for you to succeed. However, that does not mean dog training is easy, and by getting me to come to your house will not make your problems disappear… (well it does sometimes). You WILL have to put the work in to get to where you aim to be and earn a great relationship with your dog.
My aim is to change people’s perceptions of ‘Dog Trainers’, we are not all bullies who tell you to “be more stern”, or who take part in the dominance nonsense. (To say the least).
Also, for those who want the official stuff… I am canine first aid trained and insured,]. I am becoming a Puppy school UK associate tutor. I have been studying a degree in Animal Behaviour and welfare for 3 years and am finishing it off with a degree in Canine Clinical Behaviour also. I am up to date with Dog Law, and am a recognised Raw advisor too. I’ve also spent a day with Worldwide play specialist Craig Ogilvie, to be able to teach you how to play with your dogs properly and reap the benefits, not to mention the many hours I’ve spent helping dog owners succeed with their dogs.
If you’d like to work with me, or have me work with your dog, please get in touch to find out more.
