Well we had a few heath issues with Doris the last few months. I couldn't say what was wrong I just knew something wasn't right. Everyone thought I was mad but I know my dogs and I knew something wasn't right. She was really lethargic, very grumpy, wouldn't play with poppy, gaining weight, not interested in anything so off to the vets. Scans on her liver, bile tests and bloods taken. Her bloods came back as hypothyroid/hypothyroidism. So we had a few options change her food to a simple diet (they are all fed raw) if the next test come back and the levels are the same we then needed to look at tumors/biopsy etc. Well what a turn around as you can see we have the whacky races back and a ticket to the WWE Championship (Doris in the blue corner Poppy in the red) she's lost weight and is absolutely full of it. Little changes in behaviour is a huge red flag 🚩 don't be scared to go to the vet and voice concerns and don't be told a load of old c**k n bull if they say they look fine. Our vets were brilliant listened to what I was saying and went out of their way to help.

It maybe very hot outside ☀️ but don't worry about your pooches we have the air conditioner on 🥶 and the dogs are definitely loving it. Mr Truffle getting as much as he can before he has to be picked up 🐶

Yesterday I was blown away with this gift from herbie. Thank you 😘

A little back story for the gift: herbie has come to us since a fluffy puppy and has been our unicorn dog 🦄 he loved his grooms and a pro from the get go. Herbie is on a very good groom schedule every 7 weeks. A few grooms ago he was reluctant to come in (he secretly upset me 😢) lots of things running though my head as to why he didn't want to come in.

That groom he was a bit unhappy and uncomfortable with his hind leg, I mentioned the finding with mom and left it like that. Next groom he really didn't like that leg being touched.

After talking with dad I said what he was like on his groom that day. Off he went to the vets and he had luxating patella. This is where the knee cap can become dislocated. Lucky he's still very young and he had an operation to fix it.

This is one of the reasons having a regular groomer can be so helpful. Even though you see them everyday we can spot the little things that may be missed at home. We can pick up new behaviours when being groomed that are not normal for your dog.

I love my job and your dogs too. I do notice every small minor detail and change in your dog. It's my job to know. Am glad we could help little herbie just like we have lots before 🥰

We are nearly always the first to spot lumps and bumps too

𝐅𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒 🦟🦟🦟.... its that time of year when the horrible little critters appear more and they are rife at the minute!! Please check your dog before your appointment.

We will not accept any dog with fleas in the salon. If a dog comes into the salon with fleas, it will be sent home straight away, you will incur a £30 charge for the fumigation of our salon and you may not get another appointment until your next groom schedule date, so please check your dog regularly and make sure they're up to date with their tick and flea preventative.

We always recommend getting this from your vets, not off the shelf. Your dog should be weighed and given the correct dose. Remember if you have cats these need to be done at the same time. Flea treatments need to be given every 8-12 weeks depending on the product.

Should we have any dog presented with fleas we have to close shop, fumigate and clean the whole shop. This results in appointments having to be moved causing an inconvenience to the owner and ourself trying to rearrange everyone on an already fully booked diary.

Did you know that only 5% of fleas are actually on the dog, the other 95% are in your home environment or car- scary i know!

Ticks can carry Lyme disease - it can leave dogs with flu like symptoms such as fever, loss of appetite, reduced energy and lameness. Symptoms can progress to kidney failure which can be fatal.

We have been removing a lot of ticks off dogs recently, please check your dog regularly and only ever use a tick twister, not tweezers, ensuring you remove the head too as if the head stays in the dog, it can cause an infection.

☀️Keep your dog safe from spring dangers☀️

Although springtime often means spending more time outside after a cold winter, it's important to remember that this season also brings dangers to your dog.

Adders 🐍

The UK's only native poisonous snake emerges in spring and can cause harm by biting dogs around the face, muzzle and front paws. Dogs that are bitten should be taken to a vet as soon as possible. It’s important that until you see the vet, the bite should be left alone. No tourniquets should be applied and you should not attempt to suck out the poison, as this may cause further complications.

If you see an adder in your garden, or when out for a walk, leave it alone. Adders are a protected species and it is illegal to harm or kill them.

Signs that your dog has been bitten may appear quickly and can include:

🐾 Small puncture wounds
🐾Swelling
🐾Bruising
🐾Pain
🐾Lameness
🐾Dribbling
🐾Being sick
🐾Increased temperature
🐾Bleeding
🐾Changes to the heart beat, blood pressure and breathing rate

Ticks 🦟

Springtime is when ticks are most active and they can carry dangerous infectious diseases that can be passed on to both you and your dog.

Always check your dog for ticks after going for walks in the countryside. Thoroughly run your hand over your dog’s body checking for lumps or bumps (don’t forget to check inside their ears).

Ticks should be removed quickly and carefully, but if you’re unsure how to do this then you should always ask your vet for advice.

Never try to burn the ticks off or smother them in lotions or petroleum jelly, as this can increase the risk of being infected by the diseases ticks carry.

Spring flowers 🌷

Many different plants commonly found in gardens, including tulips and Daffodils, can make your dog ill and some are highly poisonous.

Weedkiller ⚠️

The clinical effects of dogs coming into contact with weedkiller vary dramatically, but can be extremely harmful.

Slug bait 🐛

Slug baits, often found in pellet form, are highly appealing to dogs. While some types are considered relatively safe for mammals, many contain metaldehyde, the substance used to kill slugs, which is also highly toxic to dogs. Ingestion of metaldehyde can lead to symptoms such as tremors, twitching, and seizures lasting several days. To minimize risk, ensure slug pellets are scattered thinly in treated areas, rather than left in piles easily accessible to your dog.

This is Brock. He is now identifying as a Labrador. Whilst he's out on a walk he identifies as a duck 🦆

This dog is a magnet for water. The smallest puddle the biggest lake. As a result he started with an ear infection the first he's ever had. His inner ear was soaking wet with lots of bacteria 🦠

Spaniels have very heavy ears and as a result the air isn't able to flow through this becomes a breeding ground. So we had to loose the ears, let them breathe, let them dry out and let the ear drops work their magic. The ear drops are very greasy and make the ears look worse.

Whilst he looks like a wolly it was the best thing to do, it's only hair it will grow back. Sometimes we have to make decisions based on what the dog needs and not what we want it to look like ❤️ Humanity over vanity.

Please excuse us if we come to the door sporting some nice lines across our faces we are using the eye/face masks to prevent us inhaling dog hair. Although they do have an adjustment strap I need mine child size/pea head so it's very tight. Too tight today by all accounts Joanne Abbott 🤣 poor mo got the blame for nothing 🤣🤣
