So 3 years ago we welcomed a litter of 11 ( new owners named the pups and we had a Ronnie and Reggie.... soon known as the Kray brothers), I had the pleasure of the owner of Ronnie get in touch this morning, after a lot of hard work as you can see in the video. she has done a full season at 4 different shoots last season and smashed it!! being asked to return to all 4 shoots again this season. I just want to say well done and i am so proud of all you have achieved with this boy as I know it hasn't been easy to get him where he is today. so a massive well done to you and having such an amazing dog!

What a beautiful update of one of the 14 in their new home on the first night, I have to admit I have been slightly emotional watching these leave, but they have the most wonderful homes and futures ahead.

So with the shooting season at an end, Hornacott gundogs had the great pleasure of Tessa daughter of drummer, producing 14 puppies.... it was a very long night and everyone is getting topped up at present, fingers crossed for us all with such a large litter. Mum is doing very well if not very tired but loves her babies.

So last year we had the most absolute pleasure of Isla coming down for a stud service for our Hornacott Roskie, and it's been an absolute pleasure getting to know her owners before the mating as they were such knowledgeable nice people and wanted the right stud dog for Isla, and I can't stress enough that people shouldn't only be looking at pedigree ( although please try to keep those COI's low) but temperament of the stud, work ethic, how that will balance with your female, what you would like to advance or what would compliment, if you have to much drive would you look at a more steadier worker to try and balance it out, size etc, the list can be endless. When done right though, well here are a few of the offspring below along with mum Isla.... Now I loved Isla when I met her, her loving nature, confidence, nose to the ground ethic, heard all about her working career.... And now seeing how Rosie is looking and her training of basics underway... I'm very interested in following what comes of Rosie's future

What a lovely update from Ruby's owner, Ruby is a young dog that has had a few days out on the shoot this season and is already finding birds. We can't express how much we appreciate the wonderful updates of our pups that have gone to new homes.

It's with sadden hearts and dearest sorrow we say goodbye to Drummer I just wish we had another summer together.

So My precious giant this is all for you, its not much, and it's been a roller coaster of emotions, wish you were here for my normal commotion. You were my big bear, a climb up your door to definitely ensure that a snuggle was coming, we shall miss you boy.

We watched you from a pup, lanky legs and a goofy smile, you travelled all those miles to have us as a home, soon you had taken over with your love, filled our hearts and stole our gloves, your quick uptake of a ride on the bike was extreme, although it didn't half make my mother gleam. You would hear the engine come to life and fly on the bike, in a drum or have a good run with those 4 wheels of fun, the wind blowing your ears back from your head and that goofy grin is something we will miss... not to mention that very silly quiff.

You stole mum's heart and became her favourite from day one, she fed you all the bones and treats nearly the cupboard and let's not mention the ones she hid when dad came along, she turned you into a complete giant.you were spoilt rotten and it was often said you would never be a gun dog with all that glutton but my boy, you will never be forgotten.

For a dog so big your personality and softness shone, you let my little girl Imi lead you up and down and all around, brought her birds on the shooting ground, covered her in mud and slobber and was soon off for another runner. Whether is was a good cuddle or you were trying to snuffle ice cream you were a complete dream my little girl an I thank you for making her part of your team.

You were the first one out of the door on a shooting day most of the time leaving me on the floor, you would hear me grumble and generally gave me a look of why would you stumble, get up we have work to be done, you knew the days and couldn't wait, up you would go on the tailgate, we got to the first drive you would barrel out from the crate, once or twice I would wonder if my fingers were still in place, you had to go on every drive, no way were you being left behind, birds to be found, you couldn't be stuck in the background, but now my boy I shall fall, not through a push or a shove from your whirlwind rush, no today it's from heartache, sadness, tears and a gush of memories. So my bear, the hardest part, shutting the door to the kennel but never my heart.

With tears in my eyes I write of all the highs, you and dad worked as a team, you worked hard and covered ground, always finding what was missed, you marked the birds and travelled true not even missing a few. You often went self employed, for a bird no one knew had come down, travelling a vast quantity of terrain with my dad's uproar of your name, DRUMMER!! Was all that the shooting team would hear, we all would smirk and laugh knowing you were on a trail of a bird that dad couldn't get near.

The start of the drive there you are, I see you boy, you are like lightning, hear those guns that's got your attention, they are shooting just for you, Mark those birds as they fall, you see them near and far, keep up now son don't miss none! Finish your sweeping, nose to the ground, tail wagging keep on hunting.

Few more drives to go my precious boy, you have got this Drum, you were never one to fail, did you hear that gun remark on a retrieve well done! Did you see that partridge come down.... don't run into that gun!

Through the water on the other side there is a bird, take that steady and in your stride, don't you falter, swim strong and come back true, still got the bird and another one too!

Get in that cover, im sure one went there, where are you going, I marked it fair... oh.... I see.... yes my bear.... I see... you need to follow that scent over there, go on then, get up over that bank, go over that stream, up that hill, I can't see you now, it must be right at the end on the brow.....

Go on then my boy, you see that last gun, that's just for you my son, one last shot for the bird on the horizon. You head that way and mark the bird well, dont mess up now, don't worry your head, I will come, I will be there when my last drive is done.

You were some dog!

So Kea on the right, wasn't always a fan of having a new pup join her (Moa). But a lovely encouraging update from Moa's new owner that perseverance has paid off! Yes Kea still has the odd moment of "leave me alone young one" but don't they look lovely.

Cocker love at its finest.... Although if you could both stop your snuggles and get working !!

We would love to thank all of our followers, puppy owners and people that come for training, I still have some new updates to give about our beautiful pups that we have bred at various stages of their lives and their achievements... I will get there eventually lol.

But mostly I truly want to thank every single one of you for being a spaniel owner, if you have tried to contact me via my website also lately just to let you know, we do need to have your email address as we can't reply.

Can't wait for more updates of your dogs and we will post again soon.

So Our 10 have nearly left, two more to go on Wednesday... working homes, drug detection, and pets, we do a world of happy homes to suit the right people... and you have to admit.... they are very grounded puppies to be so settled so soon.

After a very sad start to the week and some of our litter of 10 starting to leave .... what better way to remember how great life can be with some very wet training ( obviously nothing to technical and naturally we are not field trial perfect.... but think we are doing alright for a start for this young one of my daughters.... EVIE!)

We can’t believe what we have lost, our dearest Moss,
You were by my dad’s side from the start, you worked hard and gave your heart,
You have been through the years, and we have released a lot of tears,
Courage, love, happy tails and soggy paws we have seen it all,
The birds your have retrieved, the work that has been done,
You must be relieved to go to the resting gun.
We had you from the start, and well you were not always a gem, you had us at a smart on more than one glen, what are we to do knowing that you have had your last run, you had given us sooo much fun, we are at a loss, we are broken without your token of tail,
But I do hope that you can now run that mile, when you were a pup, you always had an old mans frown, old before your time, knowledge and buster you gave my old man some muster!

Through the hedges, up the banks, in the water you have nearly sank, hunting hard, going strong, at some points even wrong, but you were a heart of a lion my dear Moss, nothing stronger than the loss.
By our side you have gave us your all, we can’t even put into words the sorrow that we won’t see you tomorrow.

As my dad would say, YOU WERE SOME DOG!
