We Supply healthy and balanced, fresh, homecooked plant-based dog food and are leading the way in a kinder way of feeding our dogs. Happy Dog Happy Planet was founded by Laura when she, like all of us, were locked down because of COVID-19. Being a dog lover, with a foodie background, nutrition and tasty food was always a priority for her and she couldn’t see why people fed their dogs on poor quali
ty food. Emma and Ian acquired Happy Dog Happy Planet from Laura in 2021. Emma has a substantial catering background and Ian experience in sales. Loving dogs seems to come naturally. The development of the treats to provide an ethical and nutritious dog treat for a dog was a priority for Happy Dog Happy Planet. On researching the market, research found that many commercial biscuits are bulked up with low nutritional value ingredients such as vegetable glycerine, potato flour, starch or ‘meat and animal derivatives’ which could be anything! The research did not reveal anything that Happy Dog Happy Planet was happy with and so a mission was embarked upon to find a treat that really nourishes at the same time as rewarding a dog. The only way to do this was to develop our own treat and having found a vet who had created the ultimate superfood protein mix which with ethically sourced premium organic ingredients which, with a couple of additional natural ingredients, these were baked into highly nutritious biscuits. Our dogs love them, they are full of beans with lovely glossy coats, white teeth and fresh breath. No smelly wind either! It raised the question, why are we buying treats that don’t actually nourish your dog when they can have these? Hence the birth of Happy Dog Happy Planet providing possibly the healthiest, premium quality, superfood rich, nutritious and delicious Umami dog treats as well as a range of eco-friendly accessories made from biodegradable, recycled or recyclable materials. A low carbon footprint is also desired where possible. In addition, we strive to make sure that everything that we offer is 100% home compostable and not biodegradable, this includes our Poo bags. Any packaging that is used is predominantly recycled. These facts plus with the current trend to move away from animal sourced protein to make the planet happier with less methane, enables Happy Dog Happy Planet to truly live up to it’s name. Our Umami treats are actually vegan which raised the question, are dogs really able to eat them and gain the nutrition they need for a healthy life? A close look at the anatomy, behaviour and feeding preferences of dogs shows that they are actually omnivorous — able to eat and remain healthy with both animal and plant foodstuffs. There is nothing wrong with a balanced diet! What next for the Umami treats? Research along the nutritional path took us along a path that included the benefits from eating spices. Spices don’t simply add flavour to food – they also aid digestion, protect against bacteria and prevent a range of illnesses and support and strengthen immune functions.

It is amazing that Medivet has suspended a superb vet Dr Alex Llorens at their Forest Row surgery because he used his judgement over raising profit instead of looking after a pet. He is a caring vet whose concern is for looking after some of his patients, who could not afford the full price for the treatment of their family members. It seems that for Medivet it is profit over care for a pet. If you can't afford it I guess your pet should be ... I don't care to think about what the Medivet approach is without a caring vet.

We’re very excited to be joined by our friends at Happy Dog Happy Planet on Dogs in Yellow Day (Wednesday 20th March), who will be bringing along a very special pop-up stall to the Ashdown Forest Centre. My Happy Story
I’m from a foodie background and nutrition has always been top priority for me. As a dog owner, my dogs’ health is also top priority. Searching for a nutritious and ethical dog treat for my dog Happy, I found many commercial biscuits and treats are bulked up with low nutritional value ingredients such as vegetable glycerine, potato flour, starch or ‘meat and animal derivatives’ (which could be anything) with very low % of the good stuff! So I went on a mission to find a treat that really nourishes at the same time as rewarding my dog.
I couldn’t find anything I was happy with so I decided to make my own! I met a fab Vet who created the ultimate superfood protein mix with ethically sourced premium organic ingredients which with a few additional natural ingredients, I now bake into highly nutritious dog treats. Happy absolutely loves them, is full of beans with a lovely glossy coat, jet white teeth and fresh breath! No smelly farts either! I baked some extra and sent them to everyone I know with dogs for feedback and they LOVED them! So I thought, why are we buying treats that don’t nourish your dog when they can have these? Hence the birth of Happy Dog Happy Planet premium superfood treats.

After being made redundant in 2019 from the ski chalet business in the French Alps, I returned to the UK looking for a new direction, then Covid rocked the world. Lockdown 1.0 made finding a job increasingly difficult so I started trading online then at markets across Sussex and Surrey once they started up again and it’s taken off from there! I’m undertaking a Canine Nutrition Diploma to learn more and I’m very proud to be making such nutritious treats for doggos across the UK!
