‼️New Back Protector Standard Update‼️

Here is a bit more info as I’m seeing lots of posts from peeps who are confuzzled.

From 1st January 2024, the BETA 2009 safety certification will NO LONGER be permitted for use at British Eventing, British Riding Club and Pony Club competitions. This means that the BETA 2018 standard will be required when riding at any event run under these organisations. Some coaches and training events will also require this standard so check with your coach.

It encompasses three levels, each designed for different activities and denoted by a colour-coded label on the garment.

• Level 1 - provides the lowest level of protection that is only considered appropriate for licensed jockeys. Level 1 is designed to meet the weight restrictions that apply to professional jockeys whilst racing.
• Level 2 - offers a lower than normal level of protection. It is considered suitable for general riding in very low risk situations and for professionals such as licensed jockeys when specified by their racing authority or regulatory body.
• Level 3 - is considered appropriate for general riding, competitions including eventing and working with horses. Level 3 body protectors should prevent minor bruising that would have produced stiffness and pain, reduce soft tissue injuries and prevent a limited number of rib fractures.

Info taken directly from the Beta-UK website (link in comments)

Incoming change re back protectors.

IMPORTANT!
BETA 2009 garments will no longer be permitted from 1 Jan 2024 for British Eventing, Pony Clubs and British Riding Clubs competition.
Check if your BP has a black and blue 2018 label!

Riders can of course continue to use BETA 2009 for general riding or in other activities where they do not specify a BP requirement but BETA recommends that body protectors should be replaced every five years, depending on use, as impact absorption properties of the foam will start to decline over time.

Always check your body protector for dents immediately after an incident such as a fall or kick because the foam should expand back into shape after 30 minutes. Any dents that remain are an indication that the damaged area no longer offers the same absorption properties as before. Some manufacturers, however, can supply replacement panels.

Remember to check if your body protector fits correctly.

If you are thinking about buying a new body protector visit one of our BETA retailer members who are trained to fit it for you. Use the BETA members directory on our website.

Such a sad loss of a showjumping legend.

It’s with great sadness that my Dad,
Mick Saywell has passed away.

My Dad’s career in horses and showjumping covered many decades. I remember he rode Hideaway for Trevor Banks's Yorkshire stable, having the best British score in the team competition at the 1972 Olympics. Dad and his team-mates - David Broome, Harvey Smith and Ann Moore - finished fourth.

Chainbridge, another horse owned by Trevor Banks, later took Dad to two major individual victories when winning the 1976 King George V Gold Cup at Wembley and the 1978 Dublin Grand Prix to name only a few great trophies which he won.

His guidance as a father to both my brother Andrew Saywell & myself
was unlimited, being the horseman that he was and for that we shall all be forever grateful.

His active role in our team always added experience to the table and he will be eternally missed by us all.

The funeral arrangements are to follow.
