There are many things I’d change about the pet industry. Here are three I’d hope to see change in 5 years time.

👍Regulation in the training world. The sad fact is anyone can call themselves a dog trainer without real knowledge or qualifications. This can and has lead to many ‘trainers’ leaving pet parents and their dogs with more problems than they started with. I’d like to see a standard accreditation that every trainer should pass before they’re allowed to offer their services.

👍 Second change - Ban the use of aversive equipment and training methods, I could be more specific as certain things that we deem as kind can be aversive. For example a dog who is body sensitive and does not like touch can find tactility aversive!

👍 Making pet first aid a must for all dog professionals

I believe life with our dogs should: 🐶

💖 Be built on mutual respect
💖 Be fun, even when life throws everything at us
💖 Provide enrichment for both you and your dog
💖 Teach us to have patience and live in the moment
💖 Be the reason we strive to be our better selves every day

😔 I wish things were different... 😔

Everyday I hear of dogs being attacked by off lead dogs running up to on lead dogs.

And it's not ok.

There might be a very good reason that dog is being kept on a lead. They might be anxious. They might be reactive. They could be recovering from an injury and need to keep their energy levels calm. 💕

The point is, even if your dog is friendly, they should never be allowed to storm up to another dog on lead.

That encounter might not always end well.

There's nothing wrong with wanting to let your dog have a good run around off lead. 🐶🐾

But consider how reliable your dog's recall is. Would they come back every time if you had to call them away from another on-lead dog?

If not, choose the time and place wisely when you know it'll be quieter.

The well-being and safety of everyone outside our homes is what's important.

Always be mindful of giving other people and dog's the space they need. 💖

Today I am having to cancel the social walk and Cafe trip this afternoon, as it’s due to be 24 degrees. Now I know there will be people who think I’m over reacting or being too careful, but how would you feel if your dog got heat stroke? I, personally would feel awful and wouldn’t be able to stop thinking about it nor forgive myself!

Now, as a self employed person I only earn money if I have my boots in the field (so to speak), so please don’t ever think that I cancel with a light heart, or on a whim!

So not only do I loose the earnings from that day, I also then have to find another slot to pop that session in (if I cancel due to the weather, those clients don’t get a refund but they get a credit) the more credit I give out, the more diluted my earnings are. This is NOT a woe is me post, more of an explanation post.

The heat is due to rise on Monday to 28 degrees, please be safe and enjoy the heat sensibly, after all your dogs don’t need to be walked in the middle of the day! 🥵🥵

What a great morning!!! This fabulous lot passed their puppy training course. Sadly one couldn’t make it. But a huge congratulations to them all, they’ve put lots of hard work in, we have seen a huge amount of progress! Marie and I wish them all the best for their future adventures!

❤️We all have those moments when life gets on top of us.❤️

You're working hard in your job all week.

All you want to do is get home and put your feet up, but the kids are screaming for your attention.

Then you need to take the dog for a much needed walk.

Then you realise it's gone 9 o'clock before you can sit down with your partner for dinner.

Life is nothing short of chaotic most of the time. I get that. That is my life (not the screaming child though!)

And that's ok.

We're only human and you're doing the best you can.

Just remember to stop and enjoy every special moment when they come.

That's the stuff that really matters. 💕

What did we teach in class today? We continued the pawlimpics that Simply K9 Ltd started! This is the 11am class! Smashing their goals and achieving their targets, basket jump, skateboarding, weaves, hoop jump!

They all went away with a treat!

Special recognition to Basil who did a double hoop jump, Deeva who fit in the basket when we all said she wouldn’t, Greyson who built up enough courage to entertain our madness and put a foot on the skateboard and Olive who just wizzed through the tasks like she was born to perform tricks! ❤️

July has been a blast!!!

We have given out only two rosettes this month but that does not show the standard of training, in fact those that are training are getting to the harder levels which takes a little longer to implement and cement.

Stacey and Olive gained Improver level on their APDT 👏🏻
Inger and Billie received their introductory level in their Clicker training 👏🏻

We have seen:

14 in Gundog 🐕

7 private lessons 🐶

35 in mixed ability 🐾

6 in recall 🦮

4 in a water workshop 💦

4 in clicker workshop 🛹

5 walk and train sessions 🚶

1 online session 👩‍💻

2 on tour private session 🐾

4 puppy sessions with 6 puppies in each 🥰

Happy everyone!

We are staying indoors today making sure we ! 😎 No walk today for these , instead they’ll enjoy some throughout the day! 😋

We start with the Mega 🐐 Goats Horns. Later we will move onto something else! I’ll keep you updated. No ever died from not having a walk. Make sure you know the signs of and ❤️
