If a dog is feeling stressed or uncomfortable - maybe see these few examples.
Lip lick. Panting. Yawn. Whites of eyes showing. Ears back/ flat. Avoidance - Looking/ moving away. Squinting/ blinking. Not wanting food/ treats. Slowing down/ freezing.

Dog problems. People embarrassed why?

Maybe walking, your dog need avoid other dogs?

Maybe home visitors need reduce?

Maybe need teach dog wear “muzzle” (hold up)?

All those things mean you think dog’s safety comfort important.

You good dog owner.

If people make you feel bad - Ignore.

Accessibility…

I’m hearing. Before work with lots deaf people. Realise vets, dog training, behaviour work… not always accessible.

Want try use my experience help improve accessibility
improve awareness animal industry. Want everyone have information for own animals, have appropriate help if need.

This page for people use BSL do not read or prefer not read. I only level 2 BSL but hopefully enough understand.

About me…

Just want introduce myself.

Name Laura. I work animal behaviour, dog training. Think all animals interesting but mostly work dogs.

Have 2 degrees from Lincoln University. 1st Animal Behaviour Science, 2nd Clinical Animal Behaviour. Before, work vet team, assistance dog charity, volunteer dog shelter, assist animal behaviour training colleagues. About 11 years experience.

Only use kind, latest methods.

Video 2 - Fireworks

Provide safe place - animal choose if want use.
Nice things inside - food/ toy.

Maybe want hide different place - alright. Don’t remove.

Same time fireworks
CAN comfort animals. Alright.
Try Calm relaxed yourself. Not (sorry sorry sad)
Or Ignoring because makes more stressful.

Video 1 - Fireworks. If animal worried maybe ask vet now if something can help relax.

Check microchip information accurate.

Before dark - Walk dog with lead.
Then dogs cats inside house until morning.

Curtains close.
Can try music or tv - if calm, not loud.

Dogs meet first time. Don’t have long time. Do what?

Start outside. Find space feel comfortable.

First dog walk somewhere then leave. Second dog smell same place, then swap
or
Can walk, follow, smell, then swap.

Then try walking next to. If need space, alright.

If happy, area safe, can lead off, play.

Try interrupt, separate. Have time calm down. Check enjoy.

Watch dogs inside house. If problem try separate.

Christmas Visitors👩‍👦🎄
Inform Visitors if animals have behaviour or health problems.

Example maybe anxious people. Sore don’t touch different places.

Should do what?

Don’t assume will know how interact.

Provide safe place animal can retreat. Visitors not follow. Especially children.
