Fantastic afternoon and evening setting up and releasing Scratch, Winky, Clodagh and Angelo. Stunningly beautiful and natural site. No pesticides, no machinery, just a vast bit of private land. There is also a natural water supply and we're sure our four additions will quickly settle in and be accepted by the existing hedgehogs. Great job everyone 👏💜🦔

Text book example of self anointing from the lovely Amelia who was released into her new surroundings last night. They lick themselves like this to cover themselves in scents they like the smell of it seems or to disguise their scent from potential predators. She's clearly very satisfied with her newfound freedom 🦔💜

Gillian came to us with terrible injuries to her foot and back. She has had an operation at the vets today to clean away all the dead tissue on her wounds. She's back at the clinic now and after antibiotics, wound cream and painkillers, she is grabbing a quick snack. She has a long way to go but we have everything crossed for her. Keep going beautiful girl!!!

Beautiful and sensible post from a very respected rescue.

Lots of hogs coming into rescues so sick,so little,hungry,dehydrated.
Little ones too small to forage for themselves.
Can't find water,or food,some do not even know how to find food,some still may be suckling from mum.
Mums leave their young around 8 weeks approx 250gs,they are then classed as independent,able to look after
themselves,but they are so vunerable,its so sad, how many hedgehogs that die in the wild is unbearable to even think about.
Sick hogs need special care,they are such complex little animals,as much as you think by giving them just water and food if out in the day,they are out because they need help,they are hungry but for some can't eat because their bodies are already taken over by internal parasites,their bodies drained by ticks feeding off them,the fleas bitting them.
Their body near shutdown and organ faililure,due to being so dehydrated.
Please be hedgehog aware and get them the care and medication they need from rescues who know what they are doing or take to a vet.
Our hogs are in such decline,i wish that one day they will be protected they deserve to be,and it is up to us to give them every chance to survive and thrive.
