Claud the English Bull Terrier is just delicious! He and his mum are ONLINE clients of mine, and just ONE DAY into his new training plan he is making progress and his mum reports that his behaviour is already getting better!

Claud has a habit of barking at some men, including some members of his family - which isn't particularly relaxing for those involved! There can also be some grabbing and over arousal.

We have introduced some clarity into Claude's life with some new boundaries and language which will help Claude to make better choices.

This is a mixture of environmental changes, consistency and some new training cues to help teach him what we want him to do, not just what we don't want him to do.

Can't wait to see you progressing Claude!

Something I haven't really wanted to talk about before...
..but I feel it's something I should mention as it's one of the main reasons why I started Bull Breed Club.

I turn away dogs in need of my help. 😔

Turning dogs away that need my support really hurts my heart and it's not something I do lightly (I have been known to drive 5 hours to a consult!).

I wish I could help ALL the dogs, but logistically I can't travel around the UK (sometimes around the world!) all the time. 🌎

We’ve only gone and done it!

Bull Breed Club is now officially open and ready to download!

So, a little reminder - what is it?

Bull Breed Club is a revolutionary app which has been designed with you and your dog in mind. You will have access to myself and other bull breed trainers to answer all your questions alongside video courses and content specifically created for the app.

Each month there will be a theme for new content, with the first month’s theme being reactivity.

The forum is there to communicate and share with the other club members. This is where you can post questions, share photos, talk about your challenges and your wins!

With your new training diary, progress becomes much easier as you are able to journal your progress, set goals and stay motivated with training diary inspiration.

Our first month’s theme is all about reactivity.

Having a reactive dog can be hard. It can actually be quite lonely.

Inside Bull Breed Club, there is help for that 'problem' dog. BUT there is also a lot of fun stuff too.

**Tell me…**

Have you ever seen anything as cute as this little face?

Lola the baby Frenchie is a rescue puppy from on my puppy programme and is smashing her way through it!

Because of the bespoke nature of being able to work one to one, we have been able to train for exactly what Lola needs, and not just general training for training’s sake.

We have worked on increasing her confidence outside, working through some separation anxiety, crate training and so much more!

I lurrrve my puppy clients and seeing their little baby faces each week and seeing them progress and learn.

**I don’t normally lie to you but…**

Here are 2 truths and a lie about me… I want you to guess the lie!

1. I have sung solo in the Royal Albert Hall
2. One of my first clients was the singer Duffy
3. I have travelled to every continent

But while you’re thinking… here are 5 _**FACTS**_ about me as a professional:

1. I am multi award winning - including Dog Behaviourist of the Year 2022!
2. I get vet referrals from across the country to work alongside Veterinary teams to help dogs.
3. I specialise in bull breeds, aggressive behaviour and rescue dogs.
4. My career began at Battersea Dogs Home where I worked my way to leading a care team in assessments and rehabilitation.
5. I love working with people online and this means I can help people all over the UK!

I’ve had people say to me…

“Oh, I wouldn’t have a bull breed - they’re scary aren’t they”

“Aren’t you worried about working with those dogs?”

“Don’t you worry about them around children?”

Well.. My answers are:

Don’t have one then, all the more for me! However, I don’t find them scary - I utterly adore them.

I’m not worried about working with them, which is why I have chosen to specialise in bull breeds (or maybe they chose me…). I know bull breeds inside and out, and this knowledge allows for intuition and respect.

I don’t worry about bull breeds around children any more so than other breeds - I wouldn’t leave any dog unaccompanied around children, and I would teach my child to behave appropriately around other dogs, and use physical separation and management where necessary.

But… you may have heard people say

“I’d rather be with a bull breed than a chihuahua! They’re more likely to bite you!” or… “Bull breeds are nanny dogs! They’re bred to look after children!”.

I would argue that neither of these responses are appropriate in order to advocate for our breed. Pulling down other breeds is just not fair, and is doing exactly the same thing that we find so annoying. It also comes from a place of misunderstanding.

Bull breeds are not nanny dogs, they were not bred to be nanny dogs. They can be amazing family pets, but this is not a true statement.

We must be aware of our breed’s challenges and history in order to properly and fully advocate for them. Warts and all. Accepting, channeling and understanding of our dog’s is what is necessary. It is not being negative to talk about the fact that our dog’s may like to jump and grab as much as is not negative to focus on the fact that a collie might like to stalk and chase - it is natural, although often not ideal or appropriate - which is where finding your dog a job or appropriate outlet is necessary.

Advocate for them by truly understanding them.

**This could sound a little controversial…**

But what the heck!

I’ve come up with a little phrase recently -

Training is not about having **ultimate control,** it’s about having **control ultimately.**

It can be easy to look at training behaviours and positions and having boundaries and being consistent as being controlling. There are conversations in dog training all the time _still_ about being ‘pack leader’, ‘alpha’ or ‘dominant’ which, the vast majority of the time, are being used incorrectly or to mean ultimate control.

I want to help the people and dogs that I train to have control ultimately. Control in the sense that if they recall their dog away from moving traffic - that is not a choice. Control in the legal definition - your dog _**must**_ be under control in order to not be considered out of control.

When I teach an emergency stop - It’s for that - emergencies. We do not train within the situation of an emergency, we hope there never is an emergency - but if you are not consistent and expect consistency when training _for_ an emergency - then how can you have control in that situation?

I do not want to be a dictator, an alpha, or a pack leader - I want to be my dog’s best friend, adventure companion, guardian, guide and protector. But I train in a way that can incorporate all of that, and still have control, ultimately.

Above all else.. LOVE 👏 YOUR 👏 DOG!

Above expectations, issues, breeding, looks, likes and dislikes.. love your dog.

Love them even when they aren't who you expected them to be.

Love them beyond the money they can make you through breeding.

Love them through their issues.

Love them when they're old.

Love them when they make mistakes.

Love them ACTIVELY. Don't just say you love them. Show them.

Take them to their favourite places.

Play their favourite games.

Put their needs above your wants.

Do things FOR THEM not TO THEM.

The many faces of gorgeous Frankey!

Frankey is an active chap who has zero chill. This is quite stressful to live with, particularly with a new baby as well as not being fun for Frankey.

We have had to strike a balanced routine between fun and chill and some simple solutions which can fit into family life. 👪

He does a lot of grabbing behaviour and is an incredibly clever boy who needs help to settle.

I'm rooting for you Frankey!
