Does Muzzle Mean Trouble?

No! Muzzles are an essential piece of equipment in in the dog behaviour world. A properly fitted muzzle can allow people to safely exercise and socialise their dogs in a safer environment.

💙Sadly dogs wearing muzzles are subject to judgment.

💙There are a number of reasons dogs need to wear a muzzle, and none of them mean you have a bad dog! What we do have is a dog that is experiencing the world and an owner who has safe control of their pet.

💙A well-fitted basket muzzle allows your dog to take treats, drink, and pant comfortably - but not bite.

💙Muzzle training should always be a very positive experience so the muzzle becomes associated with enjoyable experiences like walks, socialising, activities off lead exercise for example. Training may be a slow process but is worthwhile to allow your pet to safely navigate their environment.

Hi Everyone
Sorry I’ve been quiet on here and slow with replying to messages. I’ve been having problems at home which I need to sort out and likely will be distracted for some time. I may have to reduce my availability at times.
Anyway on a brighter note I’m off to Glastonbury tomorrow.
Appointments not available until 27th June.
Love
Phyllis xx

Yellow alert upgraded to amber!

We are hopefully aware now of the national UK campaign 'Dogs Die in Hot Cars' - this advice remains!

However, work by VetCompass has shown that 10 times as many dogs present for veterinary care related to heat-related illness (HRI) following exercise as dogs that present following being entrapped in a vehicle.

Remember there could be a number of risk factors including:

✅Brachycephalic breeds
✅Age - juvenile or geriatric
✅Thick Coated Dogs
✅General Health

🌞Dogs can get heat stroke on hot walks
🌞Animals get heatstroke in hot hutches they cannot escape
🌞Animals can get heatstroke if left in rooms with no ventilation
🌞Animals can get heatstroke if they have no access to cool water

❌Do not leave animals in hot cars
❌ Ensure they aren't locked in rooms with no ventilation
❌ Provide access to plenty of cool, clean water
❌Do not exercise in the heat
❌Do not lock rabbits and guinea pigs in hutches with no escape from the heat

Hot cross buns!
Hot cross buns!
One a penny, two a penny,
Hot cross buns!

These delightful treats contain raisins that are toxic.

Unfortunately we do not yet know exactly what causes this toxicity and the risk to dogs doesn’t depend on amount eaten or size of dog! There has been some evidence that it might be to do with a substance called Tartaric acid, but the advice is still the same! If your dog has ingested anything with raisins in you need to call your veterinary practice straight away.

They may want to:

➡️Offer to induce emesis (vomiting)

➡️Test your dogs kidney parameters with a blood sample that may need repeating a number of times

➡️ Start them on intravenous fluid therapy

➡️ They may require hospitalisation for a number of days

I’d like to think that the dogs of rainbow bridge, will be lining up to greet the wonderful Paul O’Grady today. Waiting to welcome a beautiful man who did so much good for their kind. I’m sure everyone here would like to think he will be rolling around with dogs he lost, dogs he saved and dogs who simply heard of his kindness. Covered in fluff, smothered in kisses and loved, loved loved.

Thank you for making us laugh till we cried and for making a true difference this side.
You will be missed, never forgotten and always loved.

Rest in peace wonderful man.

Happy Sunday Everyone!! This is me and Jimmy sharing a cuddle yesterday. I first met Jimmy when I working at a vet practice locally where he had his leg amputated and I helped nurse him back to health. I visit Jimmy regularly now a days to clip his nails in the comfort of his own home.

A pet is for life.……………you know the rest.

That said, Christmas can be a good time to get a pet if you have time off work to settle them in and are willing to forgo the usual festivities. Pets should always be planned and never given as surprise gifts. It may be more appropriate to buy pet care books and items the pet will need before bringing them into your home in the New Year. If you are getting a pet from a breeder they should be able to keep your pet until you are ready
