This trail is through the centre of a busy village, aged 1 hour, and on a hot day. K9 Remi is traffic reactive. The pavement is less than 2 foot wide in some parts, and a rattling sheep trailer passes on one of these sections. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Julie and Remi for 2 years now. Here is a good example of how both the geographical environment, and also what takes place in that environment, can affect scent. The misper walked along the left hand side of the road, but the passing traffic pushed the scent up onto the right hand bank.

Over the last month Scout has learnt the value of the scent article, which is a predictor for a trail that leads to a misper with a great reward. He has learnt this through self discovery, initially with no equipment, then a harness with trailing line, and no interference from the handler. Today the real learning started for the handler working the pup on line. Let ‘the dance of the dark art’ begin.
