When outdoor adventures aren't an option, bring the excitement indoors with these enriching games to keep your pup mentally engaged 🐶

Treat Search Hunt:
🕵️‍♂️ Hide small treats or pieces of kibble around the house for your dog to find. This taps into their natural instincts and provides a tasty reward.

DIY Puzzle Toys:
🧩 Create homemade puzzle toys using items like empty cardboard boxes or muffin tins. Fill them with treats, and let your dog figure out how to get to the goodies.

Name That Toy:
🐾 Teach your dog the names of their toys and make a game out of asking them to fetch a specific one. This engages their cognitive abilities and strengthens the bond between you.

Obstacle Course Indoors:
🏡 Set up a mini obstacle course using household items like cushions, chairs, or tunnels. Guide your dog through the course, incorporating basic commands for mental stimulation.

Frozen Treat Challenge:
❄️ Freeze dog-safe treats or toys in a large ice block. The challenge is for your pup to figure out how to melt the ice to get to the goodies.

Interactive Feeding Toys:
🍽️ Invest in interactive feeding toys that dispense kibble gradually. This mimics the natural hunting and foraging instincts of dogs, providing mental stimulation during mealtime.

Sensory Box Surprise:
📦 Create a sensory box by filling it with items of different textures, smells, and sounds. Let your dog explore the box and discover the sensory delights inside.

Hide and Seek:
🙈 Play a classic game of hide and seek by hiding yourself or your dog's favourite toy. Encourage them to use their senses to find the hidden treasure.

Training Time Fun:
🎓 Incorporate short training sessions into your day. Teach new tricks or reinforce existing commands, keeping your dog's mind engaged.

Share your indoor enrichment adventures with us! 📸 Let us know your pup's favourite indoor game in the comments below.

📢🐶 Essential Tips for a Reliable Recall:

Start in a Safe Space:
🏡 Begin recall training in a secure and familiar environment where distractions are minimal. As your dog becomes more reliable, gradually introduce new settings.

Use High-Value Rewards:
🦴 Make coming to you an irresistible experience! Use high-value treats or toys your dog loves, reinforcing the idea that responding to your call leads to something special.

Positive Associations:
😄 Create positive associations with the recall command. Use an enthusiastic and cheerful tone when calling your dog. Celebrate their arrival with praise and affection.

Short Distances First:
🚶‍♂️ Begin with short distances, gradually increasing as your dog becomes more proficient. This builds confidence and helps them understand the command.

Avoid Negative Associations:
🚫 Never scold your dog when they come to you, even if it took a while. You want them to associate coming to you with positivity, not fear of reprimand.

Consistency is Key:
🔄 Use the same recall command consistently. Whether it's "Come," "Here," or any chosen word, stick to it. Dogs respond well to consistency and clear communication.

Turn It into a Game:
🎾 Incorporate play into your recall sessions. Playful interactions strengthen the bond between you and your dog, making them more eager to come when called.

End on a Positive Note:
🌟 Always end recall sessions on a positive note. Call your dog, reward them, and then allow them to continue their play or exploration. This builds anticipation for the next recall.

Remember, patience and positive reinforcement are key. Celebrate each successful recall, and soon you'll have a dog who comes running joyfully at the sound of your call! 🐾✨

With the cold weather on its way, winter walks should be a joy, not a hazard! Here's how to keep those precious paws safe from traditional ice-melt pitfalls: ❄️🐾

Avoid Salt-Based Melts 🚫🧂:

Traditional ice melts often contain salt, which can irritate and dry out your dog's paw pads. Opt for pet-friendly alternatives without harsh chemicals.

Check for Chemical-Free Options 🐾🌿:

Look for ice melts specifically labeled as pet-friendly. These alternatives are formulated to be gentle on paws while still effectively combating icy surfaces.

Protect Paws with Paw Balm 🐕👣:

Apply a pet-safe paw balm before heading out for a walk. This extra layer provides a barrier against the harsh effects of ice melts and cold temperatures.

Wipe Paws After Walks 🧻🐶:

Always wipe your dog's paws after a winter walk to remove any residue from ice melts. This simple step helps prevent your pup from ingesting harmful chemicals when they lick their paws.

Remember, traditional ice melts can be harmful not only to paw pads but also if ingested. They may cause stomach upset or more severe health issues. Let's keep those paws happy and chemical-free this winter! ❄️🐾❤️

🤫 Excessive barking can be challenging, but addressing it with positivity is key to building a harmonious relationship with your pup. Here are effective strategies:

Identify the Triggers:
🐾 Understand what prompts the barking. Is it excitement, fear, or a need for attention? Identifying triggers is the first step to addressing the behaviour.

Positive Reinforcement:
🏆 When your dog exhibits calm behaviour or stops barking on command, reward them with treats, praise, or affection. Positive reinforcement reinforces the idea that quiet behaviour is desirable.

Provide Engaging Distractions:
🎾 Offer interactive toys or puzzle feeders to redirect your dog's focus. A mentally stimulated pup is less likely to bark excessively, and it reinforces positive behaviour.

Command Training:
🗣️ Teach a 'quiet' or 'enough' command. When your dog stops barking upon hearing the command, reward them. Consistency is crucial in reinforcing this behaviour.

Create a Calm Environment:
🌿 Ensure your dog's environment is conducive to calmness. Soft music, a cozy bed, or a designated quiet space can help reduce anxiety and minimise unnecessary barking.

Regular Exercise:
🏃‍♂️ A tired dog is a happy dog. Ensure your pup gets sufficient physical and mental exercise to expend excess energy, reducing the likelihood of boredom-induced barking.

Avoid Negative Reinforcement:
🚫 Refrain from shouting, scolding, or using punitive measures. Negative reinforcement can exacerbate anxiety and lead to more barking. Positive reinforcement builds trust and cooperation.

Professional Training:
🐾 If excessive barking persists, consider seeking the assistance of a professional dog trainer. They can provide tailored strategies to address specific issues and enhance communication.
Remember, patience is key in modifying behaviour. Consistent positive reinforcement and a loving approach will contribute to a quieter, happier pup! 🐶✨

Is your dog turning your peaceful walks into a tug-of-war?

Don't worry; you're not alone! Many dogs get a little overzealous on the leash. But here's the good news: you can teach them to walk politely and enjoy calm, stress-free strolls. 👇

👏Use Positive Reinforcement: Encourage your dog to walk by your side with treats and praise. Reward good behavior, and they'll catch on quickly.

⏰Consistency is Key: Be consistent with your commands and rewards. Dogs thrive on predictability, so keep your training routine steady.

🛑Stop and Start: If your dog pulls, stop walking. Once they return to your side, reward them and continue. This reinforces that pulling leads to a standstill.

🔄Change Direction: Dogs often pull to get to something exciting. Switch directions randomly to keep them focused on you.

🙏Patience is a Virtue: Remember, leash training takes time and patience. Celebrate small improvements, and don't get discouraged by setbacks.

Turn your walks into enjoyable bonding moments with your dog. By teaching them proper leash manners, you both can relish the journey together. 🚶🐶🐾

Todays Top Tip 🗣

Crate Training for Calm Companions 🐾

Crate training is a valuable tool for teaching your dog to relax and feel secure. When introduced gradually, the crate becomes your dog's cozy den—a place to retreat for peace and tranquility.

🏡 Placing in a draft-free zone: Remember, puppies don't like drafts. Ensure the crate is located in an area of your home that's free from cold drafts. 🌬️

🔇 Also in a quiet area in the house: Choose a quiet, serene location for the crate to minimize disturbances. Your dog's safe space should be a peaceful sanctuary. 🤫

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Making sure children don't bother the dog whilst it is in the crate: It's important to teach children that the crate is your dog's safe haven. Make sure they understand not to disturb the dog while it's in the crate. This will help your pup feel more secure. 👶🚫🐶

Start with short sessions, and over time, your dog will appreciate having their personal space for moments of calm and rest. Your calm and content canine companion will thank you for it! 🐾🐶💕

💥With Bonfire Night just around the corner, it's the perfect time to prepare your pup for the loud festivities. Start by playing very quiet firework noises in the lead-up, allowing them to acclimate to the sounds gradually. Make sure they have a safe, cozy spot to retreat to - a den/crate they can call their own.

To keep their minds occupied, offer a favorite chew toy.
Remember, it's essential not to make a fuss over them during this time to avoid reinforcing their anxiety. Instead, project calm and reassurance.

By taking these steps, you can help your furry friend feel more secure and relaxed during the fireworks show, ensuring a peaceful and enjoyable Bonfire Night for both you and your beloved canine companion. 🐶❤️🌟

🐾The German Shorthaired Pointer

These dogs are extremely versatile hunting dogs. Bred to be instinctive hunting allrounders, they can hunt, point and retrieve and have been used to hunt quarry of all kinds including, rabbits, raccoons, game birds, and even deer.

They will spot prey everywhere if it's there. This prey drive can cause them to bolt during off-leash exercises or scale fences to chase their prey. They should be kept in a secure area and any off-leash exercise should be approached with caution.

They are great swimmers having a sleek and muscular build and webbed feet. They do however get cold in colder waters.

This is a great picture of Iris. She is such a sweet girl....most of the time😜

🐾Breed of the day- Shih-Tzu

This breed is more than 1000 years old

They are often thought to have originated in China however they actually came from Tibet.

Tibet probably sent dogs to the Chinese royalty as gifts. The Chinese then bred them with Pekinese or Pugs to create the modern-day Shih-Tzu.

Shih-Tzu means little lion. This name is likely because of its association with the Tibetan Buddhist god of learning.

They are chrysanthemum faced which means their faces grow in every direction.

Here are Bailey and Masie. Very spirited little ones 😝😝😝😝

🐾Cockapoo facts

The cockapoo was first bred in the USA with the intention of producing a high-quality family pet. Poodles and Cocker Spaniels have been mixed in the US since the 1960s.

They are the best choice for people with allergies due to their low dander and hair shedding. Cavapoos also have these benefits.

They are healthier than a pure breed Poodle or Cocker Spaniel as they tend not to share the common genetic disorders of either parent breed.

Here are Ben and Masie, two very fine examples of the Cockapoo breed.

Cockapoos are incredibly bright and easy to train, and they take after their poodle ancestors in being mischievous little tricksters. Because of the working and hunting dog traits passed down from both parents, cockapoos need a lot of exercise to avoid becoming bored. These dogs love doing tricks and thrive when given more complex routines to complete. A Cockapoo’s capabilities extend much beyond the basics of “sit,” “down,” and “stay.”
