🦴 Baited Stretches 🦴

By using a treat / toy we can encourage the dog to move its head to different positions and therefore stretch certain tissues.

The diagram demonstrates a lateral baited stretch. A stretch I often prescribe to my patients!

To carry out this stretch: the dog should be standing squarely on a non-slip surface. Begin by encouraging the dog to try and stretch around as far as their shoulder and increase difficulty gradually by asking them to stretch further.

⚠️ Stretches should always be performed when the tissue is warm - ie following exercise or massage ⚠️

What are the benefits of stretches?

❕Improve range of motion

❕Improve joint health

❕Increased muscle extensibility

❕Align collagen fibers

❕Reduce tissue adhesions

Please seek advice from your veterinary physiotherapist or vet to see if these stretches would be suitable for your dog!

Kobe 🐾

Kobe is a lovely little Lhasa Apso cross that I have been treating for a while following his spinal surgery for IVDD.

Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) is unfortunately really common in chondrodystrophic breeds like Kobe (dogs with short legs and long backs).

Kobe comes in monthly for maintenance to keep his back comfortable and he is a star with his exercises 🤍⭐️

Dougal 💜

This lovely boy is 13 years young and comes in regularly to help with his arthritis. He isn’t always too fussed about his physio but puts up with it for the treats 😂🦴
