This group has been set up over the last year to help with anything badger related. We have had several injured/ill badgers to help, as well as the recording of road casualties. We rely on people contacting us with information on setts and badger activity so please do get in touch. Cornwall is a large area to cover so If you could to be part of our network of helpers, mainly verifying road casualties/reports, please let us know.

Just a bit of information.

The council will no longer pick up any dead or dying wildlife that’s in the middle of Busy roads and carriageways,
Please carry on reporting what you see out there, and we will continue to report them to the council when they can’t be returned back to nature.

Ode to a Badger Cub
Your life won’t be easy, little one,
Danger shadows beneath the sun.
You may not live long, nor see,
The warmth of your mother’s company.

You may not grasp the low men’s lies,
Their ignorance cloaked in cunning guise.
Excuses made to mask their shame,
And place on you their failing blame.

You may not live free, but let it be known,
We’ll fight for you, with every bone,
Though cowardly boys seek to harm and betray,
We will guard thee, come what may.

The Badgers are now moving about a lot more than they have been.
Today we’ve had reports of 2 RTA both of which were dead.

It’s that time of year where a lot of Badgers are pregnant and some may be Lactating.
Please report them in to us with a good location and if you can please stop and check to make sure they are dead.
There are so many that in fact are not dead but seriously injured that need vet intervention asap.
Thank you

Just loving the early morning dog walk. Seeing what we can find. 😄Much more movement from the Badgers now 😄😄

Happy Christmas Everyone

Long long ago, beneath the snows silver light, the badgers prepared for
a magical night. Their sett was aglow with a soft golden gleam, as snowflakes above wove a wintery dream.

Dear Mother Badger, with wisdom and care, had hung ivy sprigs in the sett everywhere. “Tonight,” she explained, “we’ll see wonders unfold, a gift from the forest more precious than gold.”

The cubs gathered close, with their paws tucked in tight, while stars overhead sparkled dazzlingly bright. Young Ru, the boldest, had one question to pose, “What gift can the forest give us, through the snows?”

“Hush now,” said Father, “you’ll soon understand. The forest has secrets, both mysterious and grand. But first, let us feast! There is no time to delay, Christmas Eve magic is well on its way.”

They dined on fresh berries and nuts they had found, while frost painted crystals on the world all around. Then, with a rustle, a whisper, a breeze, the forest itself seemed to brighten with ease.

“Look!” cried young Ru, “The snow shines like fire!” and there in the clearing, a glow rose up higher. A stag stood before them, his antlers agleam, his eyes full of wisdom, like out of a dream.

“Good badgers,” he said, “it’s the night of good cheer, a time for all creatures to hold their clan near. The forest has sent me to bring you this light, a beacon of hope through the long winter’s night.”

The stag stomped the earth, and there in its place, sprang a holly bush shining with berries like lace. “This gift,” said the stag, “is a sign of our bond, a promise that love stretches far and beyond.”

The badgers all bowed as the stag slipped away, his glow softly fading like the close of the day. There in their sett, snug and safe from the cold, they hung precious holly, a sight to behold.

So, each Christmas Eve, when the snow starts to fall, the badgers remember the gift meant for all. For deep in the woods, where the cold winds may blow, the Ivy and holly still silently grow.

Happy Christmas 🎄- Please support our Badgers this Christmas ~ https://gofund.me/2b11e47c

🐮‼️ Important Update on Bovine TB Management.
It’s always a pleasure to catch up with Lord Krebbs, a steadfast opponent of the badger cull. His decade long study commissioned by the government clearly showed that culling isn’t the answer. It’s been 13 years since Save Me Trust began this journey, and the truth is, bovine TB is still not declining. Culling or vaccinating badgers won’t work. The evidence is clear—culling is pointless. Instead, our focus needs to shift totally to managing the herd. Farmers and vets agree, our data proves a way forward. Through our ongoing workshops at Gatcomb Farm, we show farmers how to eliminate bovine TB from herds without even mentioning badgers!
Our strategies are inexpensive, quick, and they are kind to both farmers and wildlife. Best of all, they WORK.
Let’s prioritise effective, humane solutions for a healthier agricultural future!
Spread the word and join us in this important dialogue.

Happy Sunday Clan.

Even in the darkest times, small moments, a shared laugh, a kind word, or the quiet joy of watching badgers in their world, remind us that life’s beauty endures. These fleeting joys keep us holding on.

Badgers are at their heaviest in late autumn since they have been busy putting on weight for winter. They don’t hibernate but, nonetheless, rely on fat reserves to get by during lean spells. Autumn’s extra foraging activity means badgers are even more vulnerable to traffic than usual at this time.
This big boar was 15kg. My personal record remains a boar of 18.5kg from mid-October 2019. On average, boars outweigh sows by 1 to 2kg year round. My heaviest sow was 16.5kg from September 2020. (I have both of their skulls.)

This Christmas we want to ask you to check what material is being used-even in your false eyelashes! Badger hair is obtained through a cruel trade which uses brutal methods to slaughter the animals and house badgers. It is NEVER going to be ethical. So please always check the materials that your products are made from!
