Meet Peanut!

Some of you may remember peanut as one of our first rescues earlier this year, he has grown so much since then! He is looking for a forever home again, he will require a 28cm+ wheel and a 100x50cm+ cage. He absolutely loves whimzees and running on the wheel. Please message if you feel you’d be able to give Peanut a loving home.

Meet mango! 🥭

Mango is a 4 month old syrian who was very recently come to the rescue. She is a sweetheart however she is untamed currently so she will be staying with us for a while to tame her and build confidence before going to her forever home.

She is a very active, young female syrian so she will need a cage over 100x50cm and a 28-33cm wheel. She is able to be reserved at the moment if you just pop us a message we will send you over an application form

How to setup your hamsters carrier 🐹

Ensure that your carrier is around the same size as this one and that it is filled with a deep layer of substrate for them to burrow and feel safe. If the journey is longer then we strongly recommend providing some cucumber for hydration. A lightweight hide and a small chew such as a gravy bone or whimzee are also great additions.

Thought i’d share one of my own rescue stories with one of my hams 🥰

I took Dandelion in on the 7th of March this year. When she arrived i very quickly notice bald spots all over her stomach along with mites all in her coat. Her teeth were severely overgrown and she sneezed all the time. Dandelions previous cage was the pets at home xl cage, which unlike the name, isn’t large at all. The cage had a maybe 2cm later of sawdust, a food bowl filled to the top, a water bottle and a little tunnel, that’s it. There was no way for her to chew or dig or express any natural behaviors. Currently, she is mite free and the bald spots on her stomach are gone. She has also worn her teeth down. Dandelion is 2 and a half years old, she is starting to slow down sadly. However it’s amazing that she’s got a better home now. Dandelion is a very sweet little girl who i’ve bonded with amazingly 😊

Meet autumn 🐾

Autumn is a 5 month old Female Syrian. She was advertised on gumtree with her brother. She was kept together with him in some inhumane conditions. Autumn is the loveliest Syrian, she is so sweet and will take treats from your hand and loves explore.

She will need a cage over 100x50cm with a 28cm wheel. She loves whimzees, willow sticks and pea flakes.

Autumn is currently not up for adoption and she is on pregnancy watch for the next week. If you are interested in reserving her or just have any questions then please pop me a message 🥰

Part 1 of basic hamster care-

Hamsters require a bare minimum cage of 80x50cm, or 620 square inches of unbroken floor space in order to thrive. 100x50cm is recommended for female Syrians. They require a deep base of bedding as they are borrowers in the wild and many different substrates to ensure they can express natural behaviors.

Hamsters specifically, but many other kinds of rodents are generally advertised as cheap, easy and for children. Many pet shops sell cages that are inhumane and too small to appeal to younger children or make profit. However in reality, hamsters need to be able to express natural behaviors like foraging, digging, exploring the environment and chewing. Cages under the minimum size do not allow you to be able to provide your hamster with the necessary things in order for them to thrive. These include an appropriately sized wheel, 6+ inches of bedding, a sand bath, different substrates and chews.

Before you make the decision to get a small animal, I strongly urge you to ensure that you can provide everything a hamster requires 😊
