Cases of AI have been confirmed in Cornwall, Yorkshire and Norfolk. Our gut feeling is that there may well be a lockdown this year so our advice is to get ahead of this happening and make sure you are pre prepared so that if/when it happens you are AI lockdown ready. Keep your girls safe ❤️

🌟NOW REHOMED🌟

We have been asked for help to find a new home for these two stunning boys. They are Wyandottes and are 6 months old. They are in Chelwood Gate and are seeking some ladies of their own to live with. They will need to be rehomed seperately, or if going together will need to be in two completely seperate flocks to avoid any fighting once they are more mature. As you can see they really are stunning looking boys 😍

These girls have now been reserved. Thank you all for offering them a home ❤️

We may have closed our coop doors but how could we not help………. We have been made aware of 10 gorgeous 18 month old ex commercial hens that are looking for a happy ‘retirement’ home. If any of our previous rehomers have space please drop us a message for more details. Thank you, Sue 🥰

All things eventually come to an end……

Sadly the time has come to make the following announcement. Both Sue and Carolynn will be stepping down and we will no longer be volunteering or opening our Hailsham and Hastings collection points for Chicken Rescue UK. This decision was not made lightly or quickly but was due to a combination of reasons, both personal and professional.

Since our first rehome back in March 2022 (although I know many of you had been having hens from us way before then) we have, between us, in total rehomed :-

3,396 Hens
325 Ducks
1 Goose
1 Turkey and
18 Boys (cockerels/drakes)
Which means you have helped us save 3,740 lives.

We have loved helping these birds and we are so proud of what we, with your help and support, have accomplished in just 2 and a half years. That is a truly amazing figure for just 2 collection points to achieve. We would also like to thank our fantastic volunteers who have given up their free time to help at both collection points. They have been pecked, pooped on, wing slapped in the face and fallen flat on their faces occasionally too (yes Carolynn did once manage a spectacular ‘face plant’ whilst trying to catch a hen 😂) but no matter what has been thrown at them they have always had a smile on their faces, been ready to jump in and get their hands dirty doing whatever was needed of them and made every rehome day that bit more special. Without them we couldn’t have done it. Lots of cake has been eaten, and lots of laughs were had, precious memories were made and friendships were formed ♥️

But more importantly we would like to thank, from the bottom of our hearts, every single one of you who gave these birds a second chance. You opened your hearts, and homes, to these gorgeous little creatures who would otherwise have never known how it felt to have a name and to be truly loved. We have also loved meeting you, laughing with you, sometimes even crying with you, and we have loved seeing every single hen, duck, cockerel etc go off with their new families and to loving new homes. Without you we wouldn’t have achieved so much.

But, just because we will no longer be open doesn’t mean you guys can’t continue to change the future for ex commercial hens. It doesn’t matter where the hens come from or which organisation rehomes them. All that matters is that they get that chance. The British Hen Welfare Trust hold their rehome days at Raystede near Lewes and Fresh Start for Hens have collection points in Hailsham, Herstmonceaux, Heathfield and Hastings. So please, if we can both ask you for one last favour, continue to adopt these girls and change their little lives forever.

To say this has been a hard decision would be an understatement but it was a decision that had to be made. It is now time for us to close our coop doors 😔

Our last public event of the year is a very special one.

We are thrilled to be taking part in the Wildlife and Country Fair at Bodium Station on the 14th and 15th September.

A fabulous day out for the whole family. Your day starts at Tenterden Station where there will be lots of different stalls etc. From Tenterden jump aboard a steam train journeying through stunning countryside to Bodium Station. Alight from your train and wander around the many stalls or watch one of the many demonstrations taking place. Maybe even make a start on your Christmas shopping !

These girls went to the most amazing home last Sunday and now live in 5⭐️ des res accommodation. You’d better watch your manners ladies and behave accordingly 😉 (and we all know that won’t happen 😂)

“Hi Sue, Just wanted to say thank you for organising everything for the hens, they are settling in nicely and had their first day exploring the garden today”

It’s always lovely getting updates on the girls we rehome. Thank you James 🥰.

These lucky hens were some of the girls rehomed today from Carolynn at our Hastings CP. Looks like they have settled in straight away and are already very happy hens. Thank you so much for the update Michael and I’m sure their ‘flock sisters’, also rehomed today by your neighbour, are just as happy as yours clearly are 💜 Sue x

Thank you to everyone that collected hens today from either the Hailsham or the Hastings collection point. We hope your girls are settling in nicely.

We did have extra hens arrive and we currently have these 4 gorgeous girls, here at the Hailsham CP, looking for a new coop. If you would like to adopt these girls please email us with photos of your setup, your full postal address and mobile number to [email protected]

The hens are £3 each and we would ideally like them to go together as a group.

Thank you, Sue and Carolynn 💜

SUNDAY 7th JULY
SMALL REHOME OF JUST 100 HENS
AVAILABLE ONLY FROM THE HAILSHAM OR HASTINGS CP’s

We have agreed to take on a last minute rehome from a small holding of 100 gorgeous 72 week old ginger ninjas aka Warrens, the friendliest breed of hens. Also, because this is a small flock, these hens are in really good condition and are well feathered. We’ve only got 9 days to find these girls their new homes so please share this post far and wide 🙏

These hens will only be available to collect from either the Hailsham or Hastings collection points on Sunday 7th July.

Standard home check procedure will apply so we will need to see photos of your setup etc. To reserve please email your photos and details - name, address and phone number - to us here at [email protected]

The hens are £3 each and, due to the timescale and for this rehome only, it will be cash on collection (receipts will be issued on the day to every rehomer).

If you have room in the coop please consider rehoming a few of these girls and together we can pull this off. Thank you in advance, Sue & Carolynn ###

If you are collecting hens from Hailsham this coming Saturday please check your inbox as you’ve got mail ✉️ 👍

After a road trip upto Cobham Services to meet & pick up the girls, Hastings had a small rehome today of 66 gorgeous girls 🥰🐔.

The girls were a lovely fluffy bunch & we even had the odd white floppy comb girls 😁🐔

Just want to say a massive thank you to our volunteers 💕who step up & help on the day & also not forgetting our lovely rehomers as without you guys we wouldn't be able to do this 💕

Hailsham will be rehoming next week so keep an eye 👁 out for your emails 📧 which will have all your collection details on 😁
