Happy new year everybody 😂 Here at MotusVP I have been very quiet and with good reason.

SURPRISE!! 🎉 I’m moving to Inverness 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I have been lucky enough to have been offered an amazing opportunity to grow and excel in my veterinary physiotherapist career working within clinic, which happens to be in Inverness, a place that I have wanted to go back to for years.

will be put on pause and nurtured behind the scenes whilst I go and put in a good amount of groundwork for our future, so I can build my own dream of a clinic, gaining experience, business knowledge and continuing professional development.

Thank you all so much for your support on my social accounts and website. I look forward to placing my roots in the future, but for now, we have a lot of experience to gain.

Thank you, Cara 🐶 🐴

A large sense of relief to have made it to this point. When I think about tackling my dissertation at the start of this academic year, and now I am in the final week of my degree preparing for OSCE examinations.

It is safe to say that this folder brings me high ammount of satisfaction, although my brain cells are very tired 🧠

Good luck to anyone sitting exams at this time of year, regardless of what you study, you got this 💪🏻

Bit of lunging practice for me because Pixie knows what she’s doing! 🐴

Lunging is something I find really strange in the sense of using voice aids to communicate with your horse at the end of a long line, but practice makes perfect and it’s a great skill to have working alongside our four legged horse friends!.

We had a bit of pole work set out which can encourage…

⭐️ Increase in Range of Motion of joints

⭐️ Increase in awareness of limbs

⭐️ Engages the core

⭐️ Strengthens propulsive muscles

𝗧𝘂𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝘆 𝗧𝗶𝗽 - 𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 is great for all horses. It adds variety and fun to your horse's work.

For maximum benefit, pole work must be practised regularly.

It can be done in-hand or ridden but it's important your horse has a long rein so he has the freedom to lower his head.

This allows him to assess how and where to put his feet.

Also, lowering the head and neck raises the back and engages th abdominal muscles to improve posture.

Well this is exciting! ✨

We have futures week at university, and a course that has been run for this this week is Dog first aid and emergency care. I think it’s great that we get the opportunity to undertake courses like this alongside our degree learning.

This now lasts me 3 years so it is great that I can add it to the strings on my bow as extra competence when I start working professionally.

Thank you to Bridget at Dog First Aid Training for coming in and teaching us today! Dog First Aid South Midlands

Stretching 🙆‍♀️

We all know how a good stretch feels. It is great to carry out after massage, electrotherapy’s or exercise.

Benefits of stretching:

⭐️Causes relaxation.

⭐️Helps mobilise restricted joints.

⭐️Reduces soreness after exercise.

⭐️Improves circulation.

⭐️Relaxes tight muscles.

⭐️Increases the length of muscles.

⭐️Treats adhesions and scar tissue in muscles.

Pixie had some help with a retraction stretch shown in the pictures and also protraction stretches. Aiming to help stretch out tight muscles in her quadriceps and hamstring muscles.

Targeted:
•Biceps Femoris
•Semitendinosus
•Semimembranosus
•Tensor fascia latae
•Vastus lateralis

Pixie had a full go over and by the end of her massage, electrotherapy’s and stretching she was very relaxed as you can see in the second picture ➡️ 😴

Tuesday tip - Backing up

This is a low-impact exercise with no moment of suspension. It can be done in-hand and ridden, and your horse should move his limbs in diagonal pairs.

Performed well, it requires your horse to carry more weight on his hindquarters, and maintain increased hindlimb, lumbosacral and back joint flexion throughout the stride cycle.

Executed correctly with relaxation, impulsion and with the head lowered, the movement increases the throacic vertebral rotation, encourages core recruitment of the abdominals , thoracic sling and hip flexors. It also contributes to back mobility, the ability to collect and good posture.

For maximum benefit ask your horse to back up in-hand daily. Start with 1 or 2 steps and progress to 20 steps. The aim is good quality, long, marching steps.

Hello!, My name is Cara and I am in my third, and final 😳 year of my BSc (hons) Veterinary Physiotherapy degree.

I have used an instagram page () for the last two years to document my journey as a studying mature student sharing educational post. I have created this page to do the same sharing educational posts, research and tools as I reach the end of my undergraduate degree. Both pages have the aim to transition over to business pages as I become a fully qualified practitioner.

All of your support, likes and follows of the page are very much appreciated and I am excited and grateful to have you along on this journey. 🐶 🐴
