Hello furiends! 👋🏼 It’s been a minute since we’ve posted - we hope you’re all ok? Thanks to all our lovely friends and followers who have stuck by. We’re SO grateful to all those who have continued to support Smug Mutts this year (especially in the current climate) and who continue to love our unique natural toys and leads - we get great pleasure in making them for your pooches and your shops!! 🫶🏼🐾
We’ve nearly reached the end of November (far too quickly 🫣) and due mainly to a pretty jam packed year, we don’t have any new goodies to reveal just yet despite starting off with all good intentions!! However, we DO have our gorgeous festive range from last year ⇧ now LIVE on our website which we can’t wait to get making for you!! ✨ Our last posting day in time for Christmas will be Friday 16th December 📮

Working from home life when you have dogs 🐾… it can be a struggle not to give in every time they come into your work space with their toy, those eyes begging you to play or to give them your undivided attention. You’d think after all this time of wfh we’d have it sussed but there’s still days when you find yourself playing with your pup for 20 minutes rather than doing budgets or emails… and that’s ok! None of us are perfect and remember there’s plenty of time theft in an office environment too! 😄🙌🏼

Lolli-Knot was one of our first made and aptly named toys! We didn’t add it to our collection originally as it was quite time consuming and fiddly to core out the centre but thankfully, having found a wonderful local maker who could do this bit for us, it made a come back last year 👏🏼 It’s since been a popular choice of toy for you guys and a firm favourite in our house!! ⇨ 🐶🖤

All our dog toys are handmade to order by us from our home workshop. They’re completely natural so absolutely no nasties, dyes or chemicals, and they can be composted at the end of their days 🌱 Oh and they even smell delightful too, according to our four legged friends! 🐾😉

Welcoming our newest member to the Smug Mutts team, our gorgeous Martha! 😍 A few weeks in and she’s already become a pro at toy testing and packaging, and is currently on limited access to the office due to multiple episodes of theft 🤭. She is such a sweetheart though and we’re loving her more each day, as is Claudie who seems so happy to have a companion again!
For anyone who has lost their beloved dog and is struggling with the decision about getting another, we’ve learnt to not let the sense of guilt or pain and emotions overshadow the joy of having another dog in your life. You will never replace the dog you have lost, nor will you ever forget the difference they made to your life and you made to theirs, and the special memories you shared. You will know when the time is right to open your heart again ♥️🐾

It’s been over 2 years of Smug Mutts toys for our girl Claudie and she has never tired of playing with them! That’s got to be a good sign, right? 😉🙌🏼
Sorry for the silence recently, I can’t believe how long it’s been since we posted 🥴 at least we got through January and are a month closer to spring! 🌿☀️ I’d love to come back and update you with lots of new stuff we have got going on but the reality is at the moment we’ve just been pretty busy with our day jobs and have been beavering away in the background making up lots of new wholesale Smug Mutts orders which is amazing as January is usually quite a slow month!We can’t thank those enough who continue to support us and the new businesses who have joined us! ♥️👏🏼
This past month has also been a big adjustment period for us as we come to terms with the change of life without our Bonnie, who we lost unexpectedly and suddenly before Christmas 😞. As many of you know who have been through the same, it really isn’t the easiest but we’re getting there and Claudie is doing amazingly well considering.
So yes, that’s us really at the moment! Thank you again for your love and support of our products these past 2 years - we do have more to come this year including a new range of beautiful toys which we’re excited to introduce when the time is right (hopefully soon!)🤞🏼🐾😘

As most of you now know, December for us has been far from what we ever imagined. Losing our darling Bonnie so suddenly only a few weeks ago completely crushed us.
We were excited for the festive season, bringing out new products and sharing them with you all. We had lots in the pipeline for Smug Mutts and the lead up to Christmas but sometimes life takes you on a very different journey from what you had planned, unfortunately for us this time it was a truly heart breaking one. Though Christmas has been hard, it’s given us chance to have a break from work both Smug Mutts and our day jobs, and just be for a while, be close to family and spend all our time with each other and with our Claudie who too is struggling to come to terms with this new life without Bonnie around 💔
I’m sorry to end this year on a somber note but I do want to say how grateful we are for all your support and kindness this year once again - thank you to all our wonderful customers and stockists and to those who champion our brand and have stuck by us from the beginning - we appreciate you all so much 🙏🏻🤍 🐾
We hope you all have a Happy New Year whatever your plans (something involving your hounds I imagine - that’s always the best option ☺️) , and we wish you all the very best for 2022 ✨ x x x

Welcoming another newbie to our natural toy range, KNOT-DOG!! 🤩
Knot-Dog is actually a toy which was part of our very original collection though again never came to fruition for the same reasons as Lolli-Knot! We’re so pleased we can now make it part of the Smug Mutts collection - it’s a great toy which we’re sure your pups will love! 🐾
The FSC splinterless beech wood has a cored out centre which makes it really lightweight and allows for the natural h**p rope to be popped through and knotted on the ends for that added mix of texture and materials.

Our Tail
Inspiration - Our two hounds, Bonnie and Claudie, both adopted together from our local dog shelter.
Motivation - Underwhelmed by the lack of natural, exciting, safe and sustainable dog toys on the market today.
Mission - To create something better for our pets and better for our environment ... and of course, to keep our mutts happy and healthy in the process.
It all started with a simple question, “why are almost all dog toys made from either plastic or other materials which are not friendly to our environment and not always safe for our dogs?”
To say we go through so many of these toys in a dog’s life time and that there is an estimated population of 9.9 million pet dogs in the UK alone (26% of UK adult population)*, can you imagine how much of that non-recyclable plastic and waste ends up in landfill and in our oceans, sometimes even stuck in our pets tummies!
So we decided to do our research into sustainable materials that were not only safe for our dogs but friendly to the environment too. After trialing lots of different wood and rope types, non-treated natural h**p rope and non-toxic beech wood came out on top for us, with not an ounce of plastic in sight! With our passion for design and love for all things natural and simple, we began our Smug Mutts adventure.
All of our materials used are UK sourced and the toys are crafted here in the Cotswolds. We may be biased but dogs love them, and we love making them!
