The last Bank Holiday Monday until Christmas is fast approaching, and you will find us out & about!
We will be joining in with the Bishopdown Farm & Riverdown Park Community Fun Day this year, join the community from Midday on 26th August, on the Green at Ash Crescent for stalls, games, fun & a fun dog show.
Dog show starts at 2pm, with a selection of classes, one of which could be Interesting(!) it's new to us 😂 so we can't wait for that one.
Entry is £1 per dog, per class. Prizes for each class in 1st, 2nd & 3rd places.

It's a hot day already!
I have lots of plans for today, who knows how many will actually be done, does anyone else find it super hard to concentrate and see things through in this heat?
A few quick cooling tips for your pets;
🧊Pop an ice cube or 2 in their water bowl,
🥕Freeze up some chopped veggies in ice and give as a treat
🥵🌡️Keep them in the shade where possible, offer a wet towel or blanket to lay on and shut the curtains - it takes a couple degrees off at least.
🔥 pavements get hot FAST, please don't walk your pup around the estate if you have any other option. Carry them to grass to toilet, assuming you don't have a deerhound of course! Wait until the sun goes down tonight for your next walk
🐾If they are bored, offer them some 'doing' games to keep them entertained, hide food round the house, give them a lick mat or raw bone to chew, and remember.... It'll all be over soon and we can complain about the rain again in a few weeks 😆

We are all stocked up for the weekend, with plenty of natural treats & chews to keep them happy & healthy, we even some nice natural things for the more adventurous cats

chicken dinner for cats was the best selling cat food (&overall raw top seller!) this month too!
Afternoon...my phone app informs me it's 31°c outside, we had planned for it being super hot today.
So this morning we went to .tastic for a play, explored the new set up there, then came back and toasted in the garden for a bit while the kids played in the pool, had a quick Bobbi Dip with Sam the Ram and then we all retired indoors as the temperature hit 28°!!
Peanut icepops in the freezer for later (choc ices for us lol), plenty of fresh water and all the windows & curtains drawn since 7am!
What are your hot weather boredom breakers or cooling tips?
Fly strike is more commonly spoken about in small furries, rabbits, guinea pigs etc, that are housed outdoors.
However, any animal can suffer with fly strike, so please keep an eye on all pets/livestock, and keep them and their living areas nice & clean.
It never hurts to give a little wash down if your pet had had a runny tummy
We worry about heatstroke, and rightly so! Temperatures like we are seeing this week are dangerous for many pets.
Fly strike is another potential summer hazard. A dog with diarrhoea, especially if hairy can get a dirty bottom! And that’s how the process begins. Maggots can burrow through skin and make a pet so seriously ill. So check those bottoms and keep them clean!

This bouncy one 'beat the heat' this morning and popped in as we opened at 9am! She had already had her walk, and was heading home to chill (with treats of course!)

This handsome boy came for a nail trim earlier this week, when I first started his nails there was crying, twitching, running and even the odd full body wriggle....and no treats would be taken.
Roll on 2 years and he just sits, and waits, has cuddles and then looks for his treats 😍

As you all know, Lucky Leads is a family run business, usually run by just me, Michelle, as Tom has his own job.
Instead of taking a week or 2 off this summer, we have made the decision to close for one day extra a week, and an hour earlier on Saturdays, to spend time as a family and, hopefully, make childcare just a little easier!
So, as of tomorrow, 21st July, we will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 9-4, and Saturday 9.30-4.
Closed Wednesday & Sundays
This will continue until September 7th, at which time we will reassess and possibly change things up again!
As always, you can order online, send a message on WhatsApp or give us a call for collection or free local delivery.
There will most likely be a little helper in for a few hours a day on the days we are open, so please bear with me!

It's been a bit quiet in the shop today, so I have tasked the lovely Niamh with building a limited edition "Niamh Selection" dog treats box...
She is going round picking things that her dogs enjoy, and that she likes the look of.

Let's talk training treats!
By far the best thing in my arsenal are the pure meat slices. Knowing that I have them in my pocket is the first step to getting the little monster in the photo to do as I'm asking.
Bobbi has always preferred Tom, she just does as he asks straight away, he has an awesome whistle, she responds every time...me, I could call, scream, whistle and bring out the brass band, and I'll be ignored 🤦🏼♀️
However....she goes nutty for the meat slices!!
What makes them so good?
First off they are single source protein (except the Pheasant & Partridge, which are technically 2 proteins!) so suitable for pretty much every dog from 8weeks
Second, they don't have anything added, no grain, sugars or anything else, so if your pup has intolerance or allergies then they can still have these
Third...they are a little bit magic 🪄

The joy of an independent business is that they really get to know you, and in our case, your pets, they aren't tied to Head Office rules and can often get the thing you've been trying to find, and order it in for you, where big national chains just say no!
I'll lose a sale before I let someone walk out with something that isn't suitable or won't be the best thing for their pet...and as a rule, I see them again for other things.
This Saturday is the FIRST ever so, we will have free tasters of our very popular pure meat slices, as well as tester spritzs of dog deodorant!

Preparing Pisky's dinner is a process! Start with a sprinkle of @naturesvarietyuk turkey kibble, add a tin of @edgardcooper meaty chunks and mix. Then we add @dorwest Fragaria for dental health, Rhus Tox 8c to help with any inflammation, Sulphur as she's been a bit itchy recently and some valerian compound to help her relax a bit (along with itching there have been some not great interactions between her and Bobbi dog lately) Then mix again and serve, in the bedroom, and stand guard so she'll eat! #catfood #catlover #homeopathy #natural

How hot is too hot? Each dog is different, some breeds & individuals can't cope with anything above 20°c, if you can't hold your hand on the pavement for more than 5 seconds, seriously consider whether you want your dog walking on it for the 5/10/20 minutes it takes to get to the park... Loading the @earthrated poop bag dispenser couldn't be easier! Attaches to any lead, bag or belt with ease, plus it has a clip for hanging a full bag on til you walk past the next bin! We've been testing it for a few walks, and haven't had a roll unravel yet!! It's going to be a hot end to the week. Please, seriously consider whether you really need your pup to go for a walk, and if so, WHERE you take them. Pavement walks around your estate or taking them into town are not a great idea in this heat, pads burn, heat exhaustion sets in very fast, and in around 25% of cases seen by vets is not able to be cured... If you absolutely have no other choice, stay in the shade, walk in or near water, carry water to drink and make sure, walk early and late, avoid the hottest part of the day (11am til dusk!) in some cases there are no other options, so just think and plan! #dog #dogheatstroke #howhotisit #beinformed
