Right, I’m starting from scratch on here so will go simple, and since we’re living in the times of Covid19, I’ll try to make it Lockdown Friendly! We have 2 gundogs in a flat so I know a thing or two about having easy-to-live-with, calm, contented, tired dogs. Any questions, shout. Hop over to Instagram for more stuff (we’re into trick training at the moment).
So, this is super basic and a lot of you will know it but by far THE top piece of advice for easily tiring your dog is: don’t feed him/her from a bowl. Anything. It’s SO simple but has such an effect. And if you’re struggling with a bored, restless dog during lockdown it will make a difference - I PROMISE you. Make him/her work for every little piece. You can get complicated with it but in the simplest terms: scatterfeed kibble (ideally in the grass but anywhere will do), throw pieces of food for him/her to catch one by one (doesn’t matter if they miss it and have to scoot around on the floor after it), smear wet food into kongs / lickimats / improvised lickimats (muffin / egg / ice cube trays, whatever - obviously supervise with the latter if you have a dog like Jackson who eats rubber). Try it and see, your dog’ll look like this afterwards...
