STAFF UPDATE - To all our friends and clients who may still be surprised the old boy is still going, Michael Smalley is to be semi-retiring at the end of December 2023 but is not going to be disappearing off into the sunset forever just yet..

We all know he will be missed and he has kindly written a few words below to explain his new role...

I will still be working normally on the clinical side as a farm and equine vet for 1-2 days a week on average instead of 5 days from 2024 onwards plus helping on the admin side. Sort of consultant/general dogsbody. I am retiring from the partnership and joining the other foot soldiers in the amazing White Mill army which will continue to march forward against the corporate forces stacked up against us. White Mill is a very special place and is the only large (9/10 vet) independent mixed practice in the whole of Kent if not all of Southern England. I am looking forward to continuing to help our practice flourish in the future in partnership with one of the best teams from cleaner through to vet we have ever assembled. I have been one of the bosses here for 37 years and it has been a privilege but I need a little more free time to start my bucket list, which yes, does include getting 2 new knees and maybe going on a course to learn how to tell the time better – my sundial is too old fashioned and inaccurate apparently. Love Michael Smalley.

With an upcoming retirement and new exciting opportunities and services that we are offering as a practice, we thought now would be a perfect time to meet the vets who you may see on your routine and emergency call outs...

First up is Nick Hope who has been part of the White Mill team for over 3 years.

Nick qualified from the University of Cambridge Vet School in 2020 and has been with us ever since with many of you having already met him through his time here. He was brought up on a cattle and sheep farm in West Kent and was always keen to return to his home county to work. In his equine work he has a particular interest in managing equine medical conditions and emergency work alongside a keen interest in lameness examinations.

In his spare time you'll find him on the hockey or cricket pitch or exploring the countryside of Kent alongside his fiancee, Catherine (also one of our team), with a key incentive of finding a good pub on the way!

Look out for further posts over the next few weeks...
