Expert tuition in Mantrailing & Scentwork

We need your help! As we continue our mission to train top-notch pet sniffer dogs, having access to a variety of new environments and locations is crucial.

We are looking for both indoor and outdoor spaces of all shapes and sizes. Examples include:

-Warehouses/Barns
-Schools
-Football/Rugby Clubs
-Shops
-Office Spaces
-Builder Merchants/Yards

If you have access to a space and would be willing to discuss, please get in touch. Dogs are worked one at a time and are always kept under control. Training sessions typically last between 1.5 and 2 hours.

🌟 What an incredible morning of mantrailing! Alongside all the usual fun, during Archie’s second trail, we stumbled upon a lost treasure: a cherished walking stick with over 50 years of memories, lost back in February! Despite extensive searches at the time, it remained elusive until today. We're thrilled to announce that we'll be reuniting this beloved stick with its rightful owners tomorrow! 🐾💫

Mantrailing is an exciting new dog sport that teaches you and your dog to find a person using an article with the persons scent on it. Your dog naturally knows how to follow scents and seek things out. Mantrailing is the art of working as a team and harnessing your dog’s natural abilities.

🐾Introduction to Scentwork - Sunday 9th June (1 space left!)🐕

Designed for dogs with little to no formal training experience or to refresh and retrain an experienced dog. Whether your dog is a puppy, adolescent or adult, they’ve been with you all their life or a recent rescue, with our specially designed sessions you and your dog can experience the joy and enrichment of Scentwork.

Introduction to Mantrailing

Are you looking to engage your dogs brain and nose in a fun new activity? If so, then Mantrailing is perfect for you.

This activity teaches your dog to find people using their noses and brain power. It is suitable for all dogs, including dogs that have dog reactivity issues. Not only will it tire your dog out mentally but will also relax them for hours afterwards.

Introduction to Scentwork

Have you always wanted to do scentwork with your dog but just not sure who to train with? Maybe you have done a previous introduction with someone else but came away feeling disappointed?
If so, then this is the course for you. At Shire Trailing and Scentwork we are passionate about what we do. Our aim is to educate dogs and handlers, using the very best techniques and setting teams up for success way beyond the extent of our courses.

Feedback from a recent client, "I have learnt more in the first class than I did in the 6 week block with another instructor".

This intro course will imprint a target scent onto your dog, will build drive to find the target scent and start to ingrain within handlers and dogs essential knowledge relating to searching and covering a variety of search environments. We also have a Scentwork club that you can attend after completion to continue your development.

Proud parent moment!!

Our Sam Finlayson is now a Mantrailing Global (MTG) Assessor! Never content sitting doing nothing Sam has recently passed the MTG Assessors course which will allow her to assess teams against the MTG levels.

A brilliant achievement and another reason to Trail with Shire Mantrailing and Scentwork.

June Scentwork Class - Places Available

We are opening up the books for our next Scentwork course starting in June. Places are limited and we expect them to go fast.

Our Introduction to Scentwork course is designed to teach you and your dog the Foundations. Designed for dogs with little to no formal training experience or to refresh and retrain an experienced dog. Whether your dog is a puppy, adolescent or adult, they’ve been with you all their life or a recent rescue, with our specially designed sessions you and your dog can experience the joy and enrichment of Scentwork.

We are very excited to let you know that we are in the middle of launching some 'fancy' centralised software to help with record keeping and booking. Once it is fully rolled-out you will have access not just to Trailing but all our services.

For the moment we are still using Spond for any existing or new bookings until the end of May.

Today we have sent out emails with links to your Client Portal to all members of the group to give you a chance to check your details and familiarise yourself with the new App before we advertise June trailing dates.

If you haven't received an invite, please let me know and thanks for your patience while we make the changes.

Detection Dog Trials Championship 2023! What a fantastic event and yet again another reason that DDT are our chosen Scentwork trials.

This year we will be starting our Scent Imprinting Course as well as Scentwork our training club. Our aim being to increase the availability of top level scent work instruction in the area. You never know, 2024 championships could see some local teams in next years pictures 🙂.
