Wow we are definitely skipping through the year at a pace! We are now getting ready for July’s new intake of students and their humans. We have limited spaces in a few classes so don’t hesitate to contact the Dogs N Stuff Team they are always ready to help you out.

🐾puppy classes are for us never just 6 weeks as your puppy is constantly learning and growing and in a short time it will feel like all your puppies training has fallen out of their brain. This is a normal and natural part of their growing up so training needs a little more attention, it is important to keep your training going as new places new smells and new people may create a different behaviour that your pups brain will store. It can make them slightly more fearful or anxious than before causing a behaviour that you would prefer them not to have. That’s why our rolling classes are great for people who’s pups learning is slower or faster than others. Like humans they all progress at different rates.

🐾Reactive classes are again on a rolling basis as those of us with reactive dogs will know there is no quick fix, being in the environment is a skill that needs to be learnt by changing coping strategies through games and by building an amazing relationship between dog and owner.

🐾Beginners foundation agility, wether it’s just for fun or you want to eventually be able to compete then agility is a great way to spend time with your beloved friend, dog fitness is not about walking for miles it’s sometimes about protecting our dogs joints and muscles for later life and foundation agility games helps with exactly that enabling your dog to run a course in a safer way.

🐾Agility school holiday workshops have become a popular event with both kids parents and their dogs so with the school holidays approaching we will have a few more in the diary.
For those of you with just four legged fury kids we will also be holding some workshops for you to trial agility so just give the team a shout.

With so many owners struggling because their dogs are reactive in one way or another we know how important it is to get off on the right foot with your new pup or dog. We specialise in reactive dogs so we see it all the time and if we could only get the word out that the puppy stage is a crucial one but not just 4-6 weeks and your done, dogs learning and training is never done and a lot of traditional training is outdated now as the world has changed so has our research which is why we are constantly learning and keeping our training new and innovative.
We absolutely love that our dogs check in with us if they are unsure of a person or situation to help them make the right decision, or that they make the right decision that the dog across the road barking at them is actually none of their business, no reaction is the best reaction ❤️

We are so pleased to be able to offer a few limited spaces in our most popular classes along with a brand new class starting in March .

🤩one space available in our Tuesday morning beginners agility 11.30-12.30

🤩we would like to offer in our new Wednesday night reactive/ rescue dog class 3 remaining places 7-8pm starting in March.

🤩Do you have a dog that is an amazing pet at home but once you get outside is not enjoying being in the environment, seems nervous or on edge ?
Maybe your dog‘s reaction is to lunge and bark at other dogs or people?
Let’s say you find yourself walking at all kinds of unsociable hours to make sure you avoid seeing a living soul as your dog owning dream isn’t quite what you expected.
Do you find yourself on edge when you see people letting their off lead dog run over to yours shouting “it’s ok he’s friendly” when you know your dog absolutely won’t enjoy that experience at all?
Are you feeling like there just no hope, almost in tears or fed up with other people shouting at you to control your dog when they just don’t understand how your dog is actually trying it’s hardest to cope but just doesn’t have the tools it needs to change it’s coping strategies?.
Well here at Dogs N Stuff we absolutely have your back, our trainers know what your going through and our head trainer lisa has moved many dogs from that fearful state to one where they have the ability to make better choices and owners to that place where they have the confidence and the partnership with their dog to cope better in the environment.
If any of the above relates to you then our new Wednesday night reactive / rescue dog class is for you.
Please contact the team they are waiting to help you out with whatever you or your dog needs 🐾

Wow the team have had such a busy time over the last few months. Training the youngest members of the team and getting them into the competition environment and able to listen and stay focused always takes time and absolutely is a skill. This skill is built over time and we are so pleased to say this weekend was a great example of that skill beginning to take effect. The good old boy being knocked off first place to second and his daughter managing the third place. The lovely mildly reactive lad managed to get placed twice with only one elimination which for him is huge. We are so proud of our team and how hard they all work so now we look forward to seeing them have a bit of a rest over the next few weeks.🤩

People often ask us why we love to play tug with our dogs why we teach it early on and why Tug doesn’t actually mean yanking you’re dogs head left and right up and down. Well as we love lots of different companies we partner with tug e nuff as we love their variety of toys.
Let’s get to it then why tug……..

It boosts training

Tug can be used as a form of positive reinforcement to help shape a responsive and happy companion. In fact, in Tug-E-Nuff’s Play Survey of nearly 3,000 dog owners, 70 per cent of owners said that regular play with a Tug-E-Nuff toy has successfully helped them tackle their biggest training challenges (including recall).

It’s enriching

Play is a great form of physical and mental stimulation and an enjoyable way to enrich your dog’s day.

It’s an outlet for natural behaviours

Dogs, although domesticated, are still animals and will have lots of natural urges. That’s why they find chasing and using their mouths very reinforcing. Interactive play can offer a safe and controlled outlet for this natural behaviour - and no, just in case you were wondering, playing tug doesn't encourage dogs to chase wildlife - it's actually proven to have the opposite effect.

It builds bond

Tug is an interactive game that’s fun for both parties - which is why it’s so great for boosting bond. In our most recent play survey, 80% of owners said that playing tug had a positive impact on their bond with their dog. That’s great news because a strong bond is the foundation of successful training and a happy life together.

If you wanted to take a look at the variety of toys( which you don’t leave with your dog, these are your toys you chose to play with, with your dog) then head over to Tug-E-Nuff and have a look and we love to give you something so if you want to buy a toy get yourself a discount with our code, DOGSNSTUFF

Happy New Year one and all! We can’t believe we are here at the beginning of 2024 already.
We are not only celebrating a great end to the year from Saturdays last agility competition for head trainer Lisa and the Dogs N Stuff Team but we are thrilled to say we have a few places still available in our Tuesday 9.30 am reactive/ rescue/ young dog class, Wednesday morning 10.30am beginners foundation agility, Wednesday 6pm puppy/ young dog class.

If you’d like to find out more then contact one of the team they are excited to help you out.

From everyone here at Dogs n stuff including Santa his reindeer and his two elves we would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and an exciting New Year.
We can’t wait to see you and your furry friends in 2024 and we look forward to sharing our new courses with you in the next week or so.
🎅🏻🐾🎅🏻🐾🎅🏻🐾🎅🏻🐾🎅🏻🐾

04/12/2023

We are excited to be able to offer places in our Tuesday morning class from 9.30-10.30. In this class we welcome dogs who are reactive, who are rescues, who just need a little help with their training or young dogs who are at the very beginning of their training journey.

Dog training is never just 6 weeks it not even a linear process it’s very much two steps forward and three steps back!

There are so many things that can challenge your furry companion at different stages of their lives that training for us is an ongoing process where we look for “ progress not perfection.”
This is why our classes are never limited time wise they are on a rolling monthly basis however we do limit the number of dogs so that we train for the situation not in the situation. There’s a massive difference and this is absolutely where our games based and concept training stands separate from traditional training.
If your interested in this or any of the other classes we offer wether it’s life skills, beginners foundation agility, confidence or puppy class then please get in contact with the team they are more than happy to help.🐾

Always striving to keep people aware here is the latest industry news regarding XL bully breeds, it’s also worth checking up if your dog is crossed with a bully breed as to the stipulations and changing law❤️

INDUSTRY NEWS
Transition period for XL Bully owners begins
November 14, 2023 / 0 Comments
The transition period for owners of XL Bully type dogs to apply for an exemption scheme has begun today (14 November), as further legislation came into force.

During the transition period, which runs from now until 31 January 2024, owners who wish to keep their dogs must apply to an exemption scheme. Applications for exemption certificates are now open.

To receive a Certificate of Exemption, owners must hold active public liability insurance for their dog, have had their dog microchipped, and pay the application fee.

Owners will also be required to provide proof that their dog has been neutered by a certain date, depending on the age of the dog. If an XL Bully is less than one year old on 31 January 2024, it must be neutered by 31 December 2024. If an XL Bully is older than one year old on 31 January 2024, it must be neutered by 30 June 2024.

Owners who successfully apply for a Certificate of Exemption must also comply with strict requirements throughout the lifetime of the dog. This includes keeping their dog on a lead and muzzled in public and keeping the dog in a secure place so it cannot escape.

During the transition period, owners who no longer wish to keep their dogs and who arrange for a vet to euthanise them may apply for £200 compensation towards this. Owners and their vets will need to complete a form in order to make a claim.

After the transition period, owners without a Certificate of Exemption could receive a criminal record and an unlimited fine if they are found to be in possession of an XL Bully type.

Chief Veterinary Officer Christine Middlemiss said: “The transition period for XL Bully dogs has now started. It is important that XL Bully owners read the guidance and take all the necessary steps. This includes applying for a Certificate of Exemption if you want to keep your dog and ensuring they are muzzle trained by the end of the year, as your dog will need to be muzzled and on a lead in public after 31 December 2023.

“XL breeders should have also now stopped breeding their dogs and I would advise all owners to make an appointment with your vet to get your XL Bully neutered as soon as possible.”

Laws adding XL Bully type dogs to the list of dogs banned under the Dangerous Dogs Act were introduced in October .

Fun fact for you all today, as educators we love to help educate all of our dog owners in things you may not know. Our lovely friend Tom Mitchell owner of Behavet dog owner dog trainer dog behaviourist and vet has made an amazing poster about female dogs and what happens when they finish a season. Amazing facts amazing information and a real reason to keep up training for optimism and confidence post season. 🐾🐾🐾

Wow what a Halloween week we had here at dogs N Stuff playing lots of confidence games with Halloween themes….. ogres swamp, spooky pathway, apple bobbing, room on the broom, witches hat and many many more. We love these sessions, it’s exciting for the dogs and helps build confidence and optimism for all sorts of situations for even the most sensitive dogs. 🎃👻

Why not join us to help your dog to cope better with those life’s little surprises wether it’s a squirrel up a tree a dog appearing around the corner or that situation you dog will absolutely not enjoy of a dog racing across the park with that dreaded saying from its owner “he’s friendly”. Many people don’t realise that that is actually a fear response from the “friendly dog” who’s not so sure about you and your dog.

We help your dogs improve their coping strategies from lunging and barking to more focus on you through games.

We also have a couple of spaces in our beginners agility on Wednesday morning so give our team a shout if your interested.

We want to make sure we keep as many people in the loop as possible especially those owners of bully breeds.
I have to say this makes us so sad as it’s not the breed but the owners who fail their dogs by not training their dogs that really has a terrible knock on effect for the rest of the responsible owners out there.
We are absolutely here to help those who need to begin, carry on or re train their beloved pooch.

Some of the Dogs N Stuff staff have been unpacking the Halloween box to see what they can find for this weeks classes, honestly we wondered what they had been up to 🙄
Remember to help your fury friends out this year by maybe popping them in another room, covered crate or quiet space so that they can be calm and limit anxiety and be out of the way as much as possible of all those scary novel creatures at your door.
Have a happy Halloween 🎃
