🐶 SOCIALISATION!
Everyone has different ideas as to what that is.
Even dog trainers!
I’ve said before that puppies need to spend time with their own species.
It’s how they learn.
*BUT that isn’t the same as letting your pup meet every person or dog they see.
Hanging out with your pup at places where there are cars, bikes, wheelchairs, children and other dogs going past at a distance and teaching them it’s none of their business is essential to their learning.
It’s part of socialisation.
Darcy here is ultra super social and would kiss EVERYONE given the chance.
I love this about her.
HOWEVER she needed to be taught how to control herself and be calm when there is stuff going on if I wanted to take her into busy environments.
Puppyhood is the easiest time to teach this.
🐾 Keep the distance far enough that your pup can succeed. This distance will alter over time and from day to day.
🐾 Don’t hyper focus on your puppy. They won’t chill out if you’re fussing being a helicopter mum.
🐾 You can use a long lasting chew that doesn't need you to keep focused on your puppy.
🐾 SHUT UP! As humans we want to involve ourselves in everything but by nattering on we often interfere with the puppy’s natural learning.
🐾 Don’t worry if your pup is sat, stood or lay down. Let them pick their own body position - remember the aim is to be chilled and naturally controlled - not a Sergeant Major ✌️
🐾 My go to is a nice coffee shop with plenty of room either inside or out. I take a mat for puppy to lie on, a long lasting chew like a yakker or rabbits ear. I settle down with my coffee and maybe a cake, who am i kidding, usually some cake and we watch the world go by together.

RECALL HELP IS HERE!
I remember wondering if this dog would ever have a recall I could actually trust.
Everybody is just a friend he hasn’t met yet in his little head 🥰
Being so social is lovely but it meant that recall was really difficult.
Everything was more exciting than me!
In hindsight, I definitely should have used a longline for much longer than I did to make sure he didn’t get to practice being deaf 🙈
🤷♀️ We live and learn.
If you don’t have a solid recall yet, definitely use a longline - it will make things easier and quicker for you in the long run as pup will not be getting to practice not coming back.
If you need recall help, we have a brand new mini course for you to get cracking on.
Sign up ⬇️ and get started on next level recalls right now!
No boring, long training sessions.
Short, sweet and fun training for your and your dog.
AND you only have to practice for a few minutes a day to start to see improvements 🥳

Activity garden breakfast. So much better than always feeding out of a boring bowl. Calming, stimulating, boredom busting, fun, exercise. Happy dogs. #puppytraining #newpuppy #dogtips #canineenrichment
Building a super strong recall is life changing for your puppy.
Having that amazing recall that you always dreamed of means you can allow your puppy off lead and know you can call them back even when there are distractions such as other dogs, people, bird even deer.
It starts at home building in a fantastic emotional response to the cue before you add all those extra factors.
Here are the steps
1. Build in the response by making your cue word/noise and then following with something they find high rewarding. You are not creating any distance from your dog at this point.
2. Repeat step 1 in non distracting locations, such as at home over 100's of time over a few weeks.
3. Repeat step 1 in low level distraction areas, such as out on a walk when there are no dogs, people or other exciting distractions
4. Repeat step 3, 100's of times over a few week.
All these steps are done without any distance from your dog.
always keep on the lead or long line when outside on a walk.
These are foundations to getting that amazing recall that will work every time.

Rapid Recall Puppy Training
RECALL is one of the most important things you can teach your puppy for when you are out and about 😮 It may even save their life one day.

Would you know if your puppy was feeling uncomfortable in a certain situation?
🐶
No Judgement - humans in general just aren't very good at reading the body language of dogs.
It is important to learn though, to ensure your puppy grows up to be as confident and happy as possible and so that you can build the best possible bond together.
In short, your puppy needs to trust that you have their back and if you can't tell when they are feeling uncomfortable it makes that kinda impossible 😬
That's why inside Puppy Training Club's monthly subscription we teach our VIPs how to better read their puppy's body language and really understand what their puppy is feeling.
DID YOU KNOW?
Building trust with your puppy and understanding body language can help prevent issues such as reactivity once you hit adolescence.
