🔸 Slowing down on walks
🔸 Struggling to get up/down stairs
🔸 Stiff when getting up from periods of rest
🔸 Wanting to play less
🔸 Generally looking less mobile
🔸 Lameness or limping
🔸 Licking of some joints

Arthritis effects 80% of dogs over 8 years old. Physiotherapy can be a major aid in keeping dogs that suffer from this condition happier and more comfortable: helping with pain, mobility and general quality of life.

Last weekend I went on a Myofascial release course for some CPD (continuing professional development). It was really good to practice and perfect some fabulous techniques!

Myofascial release is a non-invasive approach to soft tissue manipulation, gently moving the tissue and alleviating tight areas to help re align the body. The course was working with dogs, but the skills are transferrable to horses too! 🐶🐴

As you can see from the photos below, it’s a very enjoyable, calming process for the animal.. and normally sends them to sleep!😴

Tillie expertly showing how to do cavaletti poles with some rolled up towels!
She is a 6 month old Labrador who sadly broke her back leg whilst playing at home with her owner. She’s doing this exercise to target her range of movement, core strength and to help increase the muscle mass in the affected leg!

There are many ways we can do strengthening exercises without owners having to invest in equipment 💪🏼

Sally is a lovely dog and was a pleasure to treat. She has sadly lost one of her legs due to an accident, but with weekly physiotherapy and a detailed exercise plan it wasn't long before she was back to her happy self and off adventuring again with her owners!
