Remembering Marley 🐾💜

I received this lovely message from Marley's family, thank you.

"As a family we wanted to personally say thank you for yesterday, making the decision was never going to be easy, however, it was heartbreakingly beautiful and peaceful and for that thank you."

"What you do, I am sure cannot always be easy, but what a beautiful service you offer those of us who want our pets to pass in the comfort of their own homes."

Rest in peace handsome, precious boy 🐾💜🌈

How lovely is this poem from the talented poet, Becky Helmsley 🌈 🐾💜

They saw you watching over them
As they finally closed their eyes
They smelt your scent as they breathed
In and out for the last time

They heard the way your voice broke
As you told them they were loved
They felt you as you held them
With your gentle, farewell touch

And now they watch each morning
As you pass their empty bed
They watch you lose composure
And they see the tears you shed

They hear you bear the silence
Of the footsteps that are gone
That walk across your heart each day
Like echoes of a song

They feel the pang of emptiness
You get when you’re alone
In moments when you realise
That they’re never coming home

But in their darkest moment
You were there to hold them tight
And they just want the same for you
So you can feel alright

So they’re sewing you a rainbow,
Weaving ribbons through the sky
So they can let you know
That life is good beyond goodbye

So next time it is raining
And the sun appears as well
Just feel and look and listen
To what they are trying to tell

They’re telling you it’s spring there
With its showers and its sun
Where there are endless fields for them
To play and stretch and run

They’re telling you they sleep upon
The biggest, softest beds
That they have stitched from all the clouds
That float above your head

They’re telling you they’re not alone
For there are many others
And they’ve been reunited
With their parents, sisters, brothers

They’re showing you their rainbow
So you know they won’t forget you
And to tell you they will always be
So happy that they met you

And they’re telling you they love you
And though they’ll be dearly missed,
Not to worry, ‘cause it’s beautiful
Beyond the rainbow bridge

For those who don't know me, I'm Kate, the vet and owner of Paws in Peace.
I had a lovely birthday today, including a fab walk with my crazy spaniel, Lola, at Wellington monument, which was looking resplendent in the sun.
Thank you for all the birthday love 💜

This is so true..

How the loss of routine makes the death of a beloved pet life-changing in every way.

One of the things that people often mention in The Ralph Site’s Facebook group following the death of a beloved pet is the loss of routine that comes hand-in-hand with their bereavement. It’s something that many of us don’t see coming and yet it can hit you like a high-speed train at a time when you already feel fragile with grief; another loss to mourn.

In many ways, the animals in our lives can shape our daily routines even more than the people around us.

A New Pet? 🐾🐾🐾

Meet Tara. A new puppy to love. Tara came to her new home some time after her owners lost their precious Izzy. Tara is a ‘bundle of joy and energy’ and has reminded her owners of the ‘puppy days… exhausting but in a lovely way’ ! I do love hearing news of new pet companions as people feel able to move forward with positivity….Izzy would be proud 💜

So… when is the right time to welcome a new pet into your home and your hearts after losing your soul mate? It can be a very hard decision….

The simple answer is that there is no right and wrong, it is so very personal. It can be a happy and healing thing to do, but can also bring unwelcome emotions of guilt and sadness when you remember your lost pet companion. These feelings are natural and expected, embrace them. All they show is how much you loved your soul mate - they will always be there with you in your heart and you are not replacing them, just adding a new soul to love 💜

Many of us (myself included) have experienced the love for a ‘heart pet’, that special pet who has meant everything to us, seen us through thick and thin and is irreplaceable. The bond you make with your new pet will be different and may not feel so intense, this doesn’t mean you love them any less, they will teach you how to welcome another into your heart 💜

It is important to allow yourself time to grieve, don’t rush into getting a new pet, but again this means different timescales for different people. Consider how a new pet will fit in to your family, including other existing pets in your home. Is a puppy or kitten right for you (“exhausting in a lovely way!”) or would an adult or older rescue be a better fit. Be thoughtful, but don’t be afraid and don’t feel disloyal, you are not replacing your old dear friend, just opening your heart to love another 🐾💜

I’d love to hear your thoughts and see your new additions… mine are in the comments.

These little rays of sunshine are heading home after 5 weeks ☺️☀ they arrived with multiple infections (neonatal opthalmia, skin pyoderma, aspiration pneumonia, heavy worm burden, secondary gastrointestinal infection and I'm pretty sure they were also going septic) now they're chubby, happy puppies which is just the best feeling! Well done puppers 🥰

Remembering Casper 🐾 💜

"Casper, our cheeky, stubborn, swimming loving, therapy cuddler, calm little boy....
Casper you're extremely loved and so missed, especially your beautiful, gentle face staring at us.
No kisses would ever have been enough for us, especially on those long silken ears. Our baby forever, taken from us too young. Mummy's first love.
We love you, your Mummy and Daddy 🤍🕊 "

If we have helped your beloved companion and you would like us to post a tribute, please do get in touch 🐾 💜
