Laura Davey Mctimoney Animal Therapist Hi, I’m Laura Davey and I am a McTimoney Animal Practitioner trained to use chiropractic technique on animals.
(4)

I am fully insured, working alongside other veterinary professionals to ensure your animals are in the best condition they can be. I trained at McTimoney College of Chiropractic in abingdon completing my MSc Animal Manipulation. Prior to this I attended Writtle College where I completed a BSc (Hons) Equine Sports Therapy and Rehabilitation. The McTimoney technique is a gentle non-invasive holistic

treatment which works to resolve dysfunction and balance the musculoskeletal system using non-invasive high velocity, low amplitude adjustments. These gently adjustments can help to restore health, movement, and performance as they can aide in releasing restrictions within muscles and connective tissue. These movements are of a gentle nature so are generally readily accepted by animal’s and can offer a multitude of benefits. However, Chiropractic treatment does not replace traditional veterinary medicine, instead I will work with your vets permission. This is not only in the best interest of your animal but is also because of the Veterinary Act (1966) and exemptions order (2015) which states the vet is the primary carer. If you have any further questions or are interested in having an assessment for your horse or dog, please feel free to message me!

Meet Grace 🐴⭐️

When I first met Grace she didn't want to be touched and was very nervous around me. Her owner had difficulty touching her head near her ears and she didn't flex her neck at all when ridden. With a sensitive approach I was able to assess Grace and found she had tension around her Poll and down her neck that was restricting movement.

Although she was still suspicious, thanks to the light and quick nature of the McTimoney treatment I was able to assess and adjust her neck without her realising. Her owner reported she was much more comfortable post treatment and even allows her to touch her head now! A success story for Grace!

I definitely needed my treatment box for this guy! Meet Simon he was having his 6 month check up to make sure his musculoskeletal system was aligned and without tension. Maintenance checks are important to make sure your horse or dog is in alignment, supple and comfortable and can often release tensions before they become a bigger issue or discomfort! Prevention is always key!

Many horses I see have issues such as tension down one side of the neck, difficulty when ridden on one rein more than the other, locking jaw or headshaking and general neck or back pain.

Sharp teeth or tooth or gum pain is a common cause of all these issues and although my treatments can help to allievate the discomfort it is important to sort the root of the issues so it is always helpful to look out for these signs and have routine checks with an equine dental professional!

Did you know, horses' teeth have to work hard to break down grass and hay to around 3mm pieces before it enters the stomach?

This means the teeth wear continually, however, the combination of domestication and the land we keep our horses on means that their teeth often don’t wear down evenly, so we advise that routine dental examinations are carried out either every six to twelve months, depending on each horse's individual needs.

There are a number of common problems found in horses’ mouths and horses with dental pain may show some of the below signs 👇

Meet Pippa! Pippa was initially very nervous to meet me, however once she realised I wasn't going to inject or hurt her, she relaxed in to the treatment.

However she did decide by the end that tummy rubs were more important than massage!

A rare day off helping my partner move the tupps lead to a rather interesting new patient! Rob the Ram, who had a busy autumn last year and towards the end of the season had been less eager to 'perform'. A quick treatment noted he had a rotation on his pelvis and surprisingly after a few adjustments he settled right in to the treatment and has been walking more comfortably since!

Looks like he's all ready for next year now! (Also a picture of the fruits of his labour from this lambing season!)

Has your horse had any of the following symptoms?

🐎Is reluctant to go forward when ridden or handled.
🐎Is refusing to jump or perform.
🐎Is bucking when doing a transitioning into canter or when asked to engage their hind legs.
🐎 Is cantering disunited behind.
🐎Is favouring one side more than the other when riding or leading.
🐎 Is inconsistent in the contact during ridden work or lunging.
🐎 Is holding their quarters to one side when ridden or when being led.
🐎 Is struggling with lateral work or any increase in workload
🐎 Or is just not quite happy or showing a change in behaviour.

All of the above reasons a good indications that your horse is not as comfortable as they could be and could have restrictions within their musculoskeletal system that would be limiting their performance and welfare! Especially if these symptoms have appeared suddenly or following a specific incident, it is important to have them checked!

The McTimoney technique is a chiropractic technique which is slightly different from traditional chiropractic treatments as is based on high velocity and low impact adjustments. It relies on using the biomechanic of the horse and the angles of the joints to make the adjustments effective without the use of excessive force. So it is gentle and readily accepted by most animals!

Covid 19 Update! 🧐🐴
Following the new government lockdown measures I have been in discussion with my insurance company and relevant associations and my guidelines are as follows:

⭐️ Treatment MUST be deemed essential to the animal’s welfare – this means any general maintenance treatments can not go ahead but if your horse will struggle without treatment due to pain or compensation either ridden or unridden then their treatment can go ahead.

I will be in touch with all my current appointments during this month to discuss if they are able to be seen.

If you are looking to book your horse in please contact me to discuss their situation and I can let you know is treatment fits within the current guidelines!

Most importantly I ask that all clients follow the following rules when attending appointments:

⭐️ DO NOT attend an appointment if you have any symptoms of Covid 19 or have been in contact with anyone with symptoms- I am happy to re-arrange appointments at short notice during this time.

⭐️ Please check with your yard owner/manager that they are ok for me to attend.

⭐️ Please keep a distance of 2M at all times and wear a mask when in contact with me (I will do the same!).

All in all sessions can still be booked in for now if urgent or for next month for routine treatments so please message me if you have any queries! 🐴🐴🐴
