An impromptu It Takes Two session this morning after a double no show! We didn’t let it ruin our trailing fun though!!

Team Cara practised for their Intermediate assessments next week and absolutely smashed it 🤩

And Team Indy progressed beautifully overcoming junctions and difficulties with such focus Indy forgot she was reactive 🥰

Super work and look forward to seeing you on another It Takes Two session soon 😍

We completely understand that life happens and sometimes you can’t make it to a booked session. If this is the case, if it’s at all possible, please let me know as soon as you can. I often have a wait list (as I did this morning) that I can offer spaces to and then it doesn’t impact negatively on the others attending. Thank you 🙏🏻

The Canine School of Trailing

Yesterday evening we had a bespoke trailing session! These fab teams organised the session at a time and location that works for them so they can trail together!

Team Billy showed everyone he’s ready to up his game so we started adding in difficulties and more twists and turns 🙌

Team Freya was full of confidence on both trails not letting anything put her off 🤩

Team Heidi smashed her trails with more road confidence and following her trail to the letter even if the two large white rabbits were a bit confusing!! 😍

Team Rhu dealt with some tricky junctions with heavy scent contamination and picked the right way every time 🥳

Well done everyone, it was a pleasure.

Our misty morning Wilmslow trails ended up in glorious sunshine and we had pretty good company as well with Team Ben, Team Mani, Team Toby and Team Amos 🥰

Sharing for information… we use a lot of car parks in Cheshire East however most of the free ones we use will now incur a charge. I’ll always aim to put any parking information on the location emails however it may be worth downloading the parking apps/registering in advance - I’ll put the links below.

I’ll be trying to source free places for parking as much as possible but unfortunately this won’t always be possible if we want the best places to trail.

I understand the council are also looking at evening and Sunday charging and I’ll update if I hear anything more.

On Monday 2 December, new changes will go live at our car parks:

🚗 Parking charges will come into effect at most council-owned car parks where parking is currently free.

🚗 Most car parks will become ‘cash-free’, meaning payment will be by debit or credit card at pay and display machines, or via the RingGo app. However, at least one car park in every town in Cheshire East will continue to accept cash payments.

🚗 In addition, our residents off-street parking permit scheme has been extended to cover more areas. The scheme allows residents that don’t have access to off-street parking to apply for a 12-month permit for specific car parks, at a significantly reduced cost.

Pit bull Sergeant Stubby was originally a stray who won the heart of Private J Robert Conroy of the 102nd Infantry Regiment. Stubby joined in training and drills learning to salute alongside his regiment.

He was smuggled into the trenches in France during World War I where he was exposed to mustard gas. After he recovered, he returned to the frontlines with his own specially-designed gas mask.

It was due to this exposure that he started to warn the 102nd of imminent poison gas attacks. He also learned how to locate wounded soldiers during patrols.

Stubby (named due to his short stubby tail) earned the rank of sergeant after he spotted a German spy and held the bewildered man until reinforcements arrived.

In his 18 months of service, Stubby participated in 17 battles, survived a series of wounds and provided a much-needed morale boost to his fellow soldiers.

He returned home a hero.

A Spicy* Dachshunds teenage angst…

So those first four weeks of being a puppy parent were hard! I questioned my life choices a lot but I always came back to… ‘if I’m finding it hard, how must Jem be feeling!’ But he settled, he was cuddly, quiet, fun! And then he became a teenager, hormones raging, discovering he had a voice 🙈

Now, staffies sing the songs of their peoples regularly! A soulful, slightly out of tune, melody can regularly be heard from Scout!! But Dachshunds…? Dachshunds scream them!! It’s fair to say they’re a vocal breed and when you chuck a bit of chi in there, well… ear defenders at the ready 😂

Given Jem is a spicy dachshund he tends to be vocal first, process second. Unsure about something? Scream. Then explore, realise it’s fine and carry on about your business! The vocal part for him is part of his genetics so I’m trying to work with it…

The ‘singing’ is often a result of a mixture of excitement and being unsure. Either way, we deal with it the same way.

When Jem screams I pause, figuring out where the four horsemen of the apocalypse are coming from, use my priority check in word ‘good’ and give him chicken. That might be enough or we might hang out processing the situation a bit more.

I’ve also pulled back from a lot of situations and training and we’re spending time going over what he’s previously learned in areas he feels comfortable in. We still go to busier places and get him out and about but for shorter periods and with lots of down time in between.

We’re getting there, but it’s hard. Where did my cuddly, quiet puppy go?!? But then again, if it’s hard for me, how must Jem be feeling?!?

*spicy dachshund…when you take a standard dachshund and add a little bit of Mexican chihuahua!

Knutsford!!! Busy morning with lots of distractions but Team Opal, Team Ben, Team Diva and Team Rico cared not a jot and got on with the business of trailing!!

Team Opal and Team Ben were preparing for assessments and we reckon they’re going to smash them!
