I love my dog and, as youāre reading this, Iām sure that you love yours just as much!
Thereās nothing quite like that wagging tail and those big eyes to greet you when you come into the room and the way it happens again, even when you've only been out of the room for a few moments!
I also love our planet for all its natural wonders and beauty and want to do whatever I can to look after it for my children, their children and other generations to come.
I have spent most of my life working in the fashion industry and have become increasingly aware of the detrimental impact it has on our environment ā did you know it takes 10,000 litres of water to make a single pair of jeans? The United Nations estimates that each person on the planet should have access to 20 litres of clean water each day, so 1 pair of jeans made equates to the daily water needs of 549 people! https://www.un.org/actnow
At the beginning of 2019 I made the radical decision to change my life and leave the company I had helped to found 10 years ago in order to do something for myself ā lying on a far-flung beach was high up on my priority list! Then the Pandemic hit and my travel dreams were quashed. I soon realised that there were parts (definitely not all!) of my work that I missed so I started thinking about how to use my knowledge to create a new business, on my own terms.
Itās been widely reported that one of the many affects of the Pandemic has been a significant increase in pet ownership and dogs are at the top of that list. So this got me thinking, thereās going to be a huge increase in demand for dog accessories so how best to meet those demands with the least possible environmental impact.
The factories Iād been working with in Turkey and India were all approved by the Global Organic Textiles Standard (GOTS) so they were already doing their bit for the environment by producing childrenswear out of organic cotton, but all production creates an unwanted surplus of material so what could I do with that rather than it gathering dust in their warehouse or eventually going to landfill?
This was when I made the connection between the growing need for dog accessories and the excess fabric ā make garments for dogs out of it ā eureka!
So here I am, about to launch our very first collection of beautifully crafted jumpers and harnesses for your canine ābest friendā all made out of organic cotton rescued from fashion industry surplus.
I hope that you both enjoy the garments as much as Iāve enjoyed the journey of getting them to you.
