As the weather warms up and we slowly stroll into summer, it's important to know when it's too hot to take your dog for a walk 🐶☀️

While 20 degrees might be okay for a lot of dogs, there's a risk of heatstroke for senior dogs, those with underlying health conditions, or those exercised too rigorously.

Keep in mind that brachycephalic breeds, such as French bulldogs, boxers, mastiffs, and pugs, can't cool themselves as easily due to their flat faces and are more at risk of heatstroke❗

If it's too hot, it's best to skip the walks and stay at home. Instead, keep your dog entertained with playtime and enrichment activities. 🎾🐕

For example, you can freeze a LickiMat topped with wet treats for a cool challenge, or fill a Kong with peanut butter 🥜 and dog-friendly fruit 🍓🍉 and serve it frozen as a refreshing treat.

Most policies offer up to £1500 for advertising and rewards, but not having a microchip could affect your ability to claim 😿

Prevent your cat 🐱 or dog 🐶 from getting ticks this spring by keeping the grass short 🌱 and trimming the bushes in your garden 🏡 to reduce the tick habitat.

Check your pets for ticks daily, especially after they spend time outdoors 🐕🚶‍♀️

Limit walks in woodland areas 🌳 or places with a heavy deer 🦌 population to avoid tick-prone areas.

You may want to invest in tick-prevention products 💊🧴 if you enjoy outdoor adventures ⛺ with your furry friend this time of year!

If you find any ticks, remove them quickly, ensuring that you extract the entire tick, including the head.

If you are unsure how to do this confidently, consult a vet right away❗

If you're heading outdoors to dust off the bank holiday blues, there's some spring plants you need to be wary of 🌷⚠️

Some of these are highly poisonous ☠️ while others may just cause. a bit of tummy trouble 💩

Flowers such as lilies, daffodils and azaleas are particularly toxic to cats and dogs 🙀🐶

Always seek vet advice if you suspect or know your pet has ingested any spring plants❗

Unfurrtunately, Lyme disease is not that uncommon in dogs 🐶

Symptoms can vary and quite often but many dogs show no signs 🐕❌

If these symptoms progress, your dog can end up with kidney failure, serious heart ❤️ and neurological effects 🧠, or even death!

To protect yourself against tick bites:
🦶 Cover your skin while walking outdoors
🌱 Stay on clear paths and out of high grass
👕 Wear light-coloured clothes so ticks are easier to spot and brush off
🐜 Use insect repellent (products containing DEET are best)

Lyme disease is incredibly rare in cats but they can still catch it 🙀

Many cats 😿, like dogs won't show any signs until the disease has caused more significant damage, but the signs are similar.

You can't catch Lyme disease directly from your pet, only through the bite of a tick.

But it already affects several thousand people a year in the UK and is thought to be increasing 📈
