A wee bit of advice for pet owners as we approach bonfire night 🔥
Fireworks can be extremely frightening for all animals so we’ve got to take measures for our animals to make sure we keep them as happy as possible
Small animals 🐶🐈🐰🐹
- provide somewhere for your animal to hide such as a crate covered by a blanket
- ensure all windows/ doors are securely closed and curtains drawn
- pop on some music or a podcast for your pet to listen to (make sure it’s something they enjoy and doesn’t stress them further)
- your animal probably feels comfortable in your presence so keep them company and chill out with them!
- incase the worst happens and your pet escapes make sure that your pet has a microchip (with up to date contact details!!!) and an ID tag if possible
Large animals 🐴🐄🦙
- try to find out if there are going to be any fireworks displays nearby
- if possible bring horses in for the night
- if not possible to stable them then ensure fences are safe and theres nothing in the field to hurt themselves on - you don’t need the extra vets bills!
- don’t plan any evening/ night rides
- again throw on some good tunes! if you don’t have a radio in your stable, sing your wee heart out - your neighbours may or may not hate you but your horses will thank you!
- provide plent distractions such as hay, lickits, treatballs etc
- make sure horses are microchipped and the details are up to date
- if you have a very nervous horse it may be necessary to speak to the vet about some more substantial calming products.
