I am not currently offering classes or 1-1 training. I am leaving this page ‘live’ though, so that the information on it remains available.

If you are looking for classes, training or behaviour support, I’d recommend contacting the following local trainers. They are all really experienced, are insured and qualified, and will use modern, kind methods. I’d really recommend you ask lots of questions before entrusting anyone with your precious dog- I wouldn’t let ANYONE use or promote methods that involve hurting my dogs or scaring them or simply shutting their behaviours down. Such methods are old fashioned, unnecessary, and will wreck your relationship with your dog. Avoid!

The good guys:

**Hamble Hounds

**The Fanily Dog Club

**Goodall

And try and enjoy every moment with your dogs (even when they are being really challenging!!!!)- their life is very short and you are their world.

This is from one of our Hampshire vets! Go careful everyone.

Last week on ONE DAY we had four separate emergencies of dogs, from four different households, come in having eaten hot cross buns. At the weekend we had another two; that is six potentially lethal poisonings within four days! Now we all know currants, raisins, sultanas and grapes are a NO NO for our pooches... don't we? Folks keep your buns out of the reach of your dog...or you will be facing an expensive trip to your vet! Doubly so if they eat the wrapper too... Here goes the week...🫣🫣🫣 The Cat Welfare GroupBlue CrossBatterseaRSPCA (England & Wales)PDSACats ProtectionWoodgreen Pets CharityRSPCA The Stubbington ArkDogs TrustSecond Chance Animal Rescue SouthamptonSt Francis Animal WelfareInternational Cat Care

Hi everyone. Don’t know about you, but I’m about done with winter. This one seems to have gone on forever and I am fed up either wrestling dogs into a warm coat or showering them after every walk. Roll on Spring!

So, would you like to give your dogs something fun to do over the remaining dark evenings?

How about coming along to Trick classes in February and March? Get your dog’s brain and body working and have some fun. The joy is you don’t have to even leave your home for this class. Just make a bit of space in your living room, set up Zoom on your phone or laptop, and you’re sorted.

The course will start Wednesday 1 February and finish Wednesday 22 March. 7.15-8pm. That’s 8 weeks.

The cost will be £72 ie £9 a week, a saving on last year’s prices to reflect cost of living concerns. It also means if you have to miss a couple of classes, the price is still quite keen.

Don’t be under any misconception that Trick training isn’t useful ‘in real life’…it so is. A dog that enjoys working with you and sees you as someone who provides fun and stimulation is FAR more likely to actually listen to you when you are outside and there are distractions. Learning tricks builds a strong bond. It also gives your dog alternate behaviours to offer…so instead of barking at the postie, go get the post…instead of pulling on the lead, maybe target a wooden spoon…and rather than walk back in from the garden with dirty, wet paws, how about your dog wiping their paws themself? And ultimately a dog that gets to use their brain positively is less likely to be engaging with the kind of behaviours we find difficult.

Shout if you have any questions!

This is the gorgeous Pippin having a well deserved snooze following our Sea City Dogs Halloween party yesterday.

Thanks to everyone who came along and joined in the fun! I love watching the dogs take part in the daft games.

I look forward to the Christmas party!

A great blog from Ryan at Houndagrips. We love their long lines, but as Ryan explains, all long lines need to be used with care. All I would add is that I don’t like using long lines on collars- if your dog does get some speed up and then reaches the end of the line, it’s their delicate neck and throat that are going to take the force. Harnesses distribute that force much more evenly and avoid the neck/ throat.

Too true!

This made me laugh, because my husband and I had literally just finished talking about how well we will to have to hide Christmas cake, Christmas pudding and mince pies AND Christmas chocolate this year, because the new dog in our house has a serious death wish where food is involved (hello sweetcorn cob 😬).

I suspect we hat end keeping everything in the fridge this year…I don’t *think* she can access that yet… 😂

Is it a ‘boy thing’??

Jigsô, like my husband, can’t bear having too many cushions on the sofa. In fact I’m surprised he has kept one for his head…maybe chucking the new throw on the floor tired him out 😂

Notice the unused dog bed…the other 2 dogs are in the dining room. One is on a little sofa curled up (photo in comments) and the old lady is lying in front of the log burner hoping I’ll light it.

It’s a very hard life isn’t it?? To be honest, if I wasn’t working today I think I’d be snuggled up with them ♥️

Did you know Debs was a dog trainer for a short while before taking over the helm at Healthy Pet Store and making it the place it is today? Debs focused on low stress behaviour modification therapy for fear, frustration, aggression and anxiety in dogs. It's called BAT if anyone is interested!

We are fortunate that Debs is still connected to the greats in the dog training world, and she is honoured to retain a membership of the IMDT. Debs networks locally with a cohort of incredible local trainers in Hampshire. This is one of the reasons all products are vetted and approved to enhance the human-animal bond, boosting our team's knowledge as we have access to a wide range of learning resources. All of this ultimately benefits our customers and clients of the local training community.
