Tonight’s admission was found by Jon after noticing on his nature camera a hog that seemed to be covered in ticks and limping on its rear right leg. After successfully capturing it last night he kindly brought it to me for a proper check up. The tick burden is obvious just from this photo but definitely does not show the full extent, 20+ I would say I’ve removed plus more probably buried. Unfortunately I am unable to s*x it as it’s balling up nice and tight but with the rear leg protruding it could suggest a broken leg. It’s also obvious it’s suffering with dehydration and weight loss so it’s had sub-cut fluids to start tackling this.
Massive thank you to our volunteer drive, Sally, for transporting this hog to Stabbo & Sandiacre Spikey Rescue where it will get some pain relief and further examinations. We’re lucky in that it’s a rear leg as worst case scenario it could survive an amputation, if this was a front leg it would usually end in being PTS. All the best hoggie, thank you soo much for squeezing it in Yvonnne I know you’re busy! ❤️
