Laser update 🐈

The lovely Tiger came to see me for laser treatment of her cystomatosis. These lesions are seen in older cats, and although they are benign, they can often cause extreme discomfort 🐾

It's great to see her looking much comfortable 😻

The gorgeous just 4 weeks apart!

Thanks to lots of hard work and determination from her Mum, Margo's Cutaneous Adverse Food Reaction and IBS ars finally starting to come under control 😻

What a difference 6 weeks makes! 😻

Daisy came to see me with chronic skin issues that were causing her a lot of discomfort 🐶

We performed allergen investigation and started her on immunotherapy, topical therapy (shampoos and moisturisers) and Apoquel 💉

Thanks to the dedication of her owners and our team she is feeling much better 🐕

This lovely girl was struggling with itchy, red skin of her armpits and tummy. 🐕

We performed intradermal testing on her and identified her environmental allergies, and started her on immunotherapy 💉

Thankfully she is feeling a lot more comfortable now 🐾

Allergic conjunctivitis 👁

This gorgeous girl suffered with recurrent conjunctivitis, ear infections and skin infections 🐕

Testing revealed allergies to food (chicken) and environmental allergens (house dust mites and tree pollen). 🌲

Allergen avoidance and desensitisation has made a huge difference to her skin and eyes 🐶

This gorgeous Golden Retriever presented to me with severe itch and some lesions on her under tummy and arm pits 🐕

We performed environmental allergen testing on her using the PAX blood test and intradermal testing, which revealed a house dust mite and tree pollen allergy 🌲

We started her on immunotherapy and topical and she is now doing well 🐾

🐾 Why are my dogs paws brown? 🐾

Brown or red staining of the paws is generally due to two things

1. Saliva stains brown, so it can be due to excessive licking, mostly down to an underlying itch

2. A yeast infection of overgrowth can also cause the paws to stain brown

Either way if you dog has brown paws, it is likely the have an underlying skin issue 🐕

❄️ CRYOTHERAPY ❄️

This lovely girl presented with a mass on her lower lip, which was causing irritation 🐕

Sampling of the lump confirmed that it was a papilloma. Papillomas can be very difficult to get rid of with convention surgery, and are prone to recurring 🐶

We decided to treat this lump with cryotherapy- freezing it with nitrous oxide. This involved sedation and a quick and non-invasive procedure 🥶

The after picture is 3 weeks later, and the Papilloma was completely resolved, with no evidence of recurrence 💪

This poor guy suffered with severe and extensive crusting affecting his face, ears and body 🐕

He had some biopsies performed which confirmed a diagnosis of Pemphigus foliaceus, an Autoimmune skin condition 🐶

He was started on two medications and he is now in clinical remission, weaning off some of his tablets and doing really well 💊

Intradermal testing 💉

IDT is when we inject small amount of different environmental allergies into the skin to check for a reaction 🐶

By doing so, we can identity which allergies are causing your pet to be itchy, and then develop immunotherapy to help make them less allergic and less itchy 🐩

Although we do have to clip some fur to perform the test, as you can see from the second photo (6 weeks later), it soon grows back!

A bit of an interesting one this morning! This lovely Dachshund presented with bleeding of his ear tips and alopecia of his tail 🐕

I diagnosed him with vasculitis and started him on a course of oclacitinin (Apoquel). The after photos are 12 weeks later 🐾

Apoquel was used off-license here but is a great alternative to steroids and pentoxifylline, with much fewer side effects 💊

The first four photos are this poor boy 5 weeks ago, the rest are from him today 😍

This boy was suffering with very sore itchy skin of his ears, sides and bum. Thankfully he had a great response to his diet trial and is feeling much better 🐕

Worth noting that he is not any medication in the after photos! Finding the source of the itch makes a huge difference to our allergic pets 🐾

📢 WE ARE NOW DOING INTRADERMAL TESTING 📢

We are very excited to announce we are now offering intradermal testing to diagnose environmental allergens 🌱

Intradermal testing involves injecting small amount of allergens (pollen etc) into the skin and looking for a reaction 💉

Intradermal testing is the only test which looks for a reaction to an allergen in the skin, and is therefore considered the gold standard for diagnosing environmental allergies 🐕

Paw licking 🐾

This gorgeous girl has issues with itchy paws and ears, resulting in her licking her paws excessively 🐕

Dog saliva stains a browny red colour, causing discolouration of the fur as seen in this photo 🟤

We performed an allergy blood test and found that she has an allergy to the yeasts that grow on the skin (malassezia hypersensitivity)💉

Keep an eye on the page for an update on how she's getting on! 🐶

This little critter is a house dust mite 🪳

Allergies to house dust mites are very common in allergic dogs and cats 🐈

It's not that the mites are infesting the pet, but that your pet is allergic to their presence. They tend to live in soft furnishings and allergies to them can become worse in winter when we spend more time indoors 🐕

You can use sprays such as Allergone which may help to control house dust mites, as well as regular cleaning and washing of soft furnishings

This poor fella had a four year history of crusting and itchy skin which his vet was struggling to get to the bottom of 🐕

When I first saw him he was extremely itchy and had crusting and scaling all over his face and body🐾

I did some biopsies and diagnosed him with Pemphigus Foliaceus, an Autoimmune condition 🐶

I started him on some treatment and the 'after' photo is 4 weeks later. There is still a long way to go with getting him under control, but it's great to have a diagnosis so we can get started trying to get him into remission 💊

Does your puppy or kitten have itchy ears? These little boyos could be the issue! Ear mites (Otodectes cynotis) cause very itchy ears, with a tell tale 'ground coffee' discharge. Thankfully they are easily diagnosed with a quick look under the microscope, and treatment is quick and effective.
