On a hot day, a dog can succumb to heat within just 6 minutes if left in a car parked in the sun, where temperatures can soar to 45°C from 22°C in a matter of minutes. Leaving the window slightly open or providing a bowl of water is NOT ENOUGH.

Do you have a tick twister in your dog's grooming kit?
Ticks are a massive nuisance during the summertime and can carry numerous diseases including Lyme disease. Ticks are best removed using a tick twister, slide it around the tick, and rotate (in either direction) until the tick comes away. Never smother it or try to pull it off as this can cause the tick to regurgitate back into the bloodstream.

With Summer approaching it's time to look at the best way to banish summer beasties. Herbal remedies can be used as a natural option for flea and worm treatment for dogs and cats, herbal remedies, and preventative measures, Either stand-alone or as a backup to veterinary treatments. Essential oils such as lavender, cedarwood, and peppermint are known for their flea-repelling properties, often diluted, and applied topically or diffused in the home environment. Additionally, dietary supplements such as garlic and brewer's yeast can help deter fleas and support a healthy immune system. Wormwood, black walnut, and pumpkin seeds are popular natural options for addressing internal parasites. Regular grooming with a fine-toothed comb and maintaining a clean living space are integral components of holistic flea and worm prevention strategies, promoting the well-being of your pet without relying on harsh chemicals.
Removing ticks from dogs promptly and effectively is crucial for preventing the transmission of diseases such as Lyme disease. Use a tick twister to remove any attached ticks slowly and steadily. Clean the bite area thoroughly with saline or Lucillin. Monitor your dog for any signs of infection or illness in the following days. Regular tick checks and preventative measures such as topical treatments can help reduce the risk of tick infestations and associated health issues in dogs.

Today it really is starting to feel like spring, especially with all the daffodils in bloom, but under the beauty lies a hiding danger, Spring bulbs, their flowers, and foliage are highly poisonous to dogs. The main symptoms are Vomiting and Lethargy, your dog may quickly become unresponsive and be unable to stand. Call ahead to the vet and get them there as quickly as possible. Poisoning is just one thing we cover on our canine first aid course.
