Sorry no updates from me lately, sometimes life takes over from socials! Still working hard.
Remember Paddy the little frustrated Dogs Trust Dog, he is doing amazing - now on his second behaviour bundle work is underway to just get him to ignore dogs totally not just disengage? He is more successful at the park (very usual) when the nose can take over our work for us and I am looking forward to seeing them tonight for some work on the concretes paths - although feedback is he is beginning to work well on this too.

So that’s a wrap. Our intensive recall workshop is finished and I am so proud of the journey these guys have all been on, still some work to do under distractions but the foundations are in, and there is no way this is done on one session, three weeks of hard work you see here. They learnt so much more than just recall. 💖💖💖

Norman 10 weeks in……..
* Coat is gleaming and shining - I do think their was a viscous cycle of stress and skin irritations going on - calm dog, calm handler - skin irritations disappeared
* Walking management system highly successful
* people - curious but non reactive
* birds and horses - have no idea what they actually are anymore 🤣
* street walking around the house - managing chilled out, non-reactive walks around the block - has seen dogs in the distance, curious but non -reactive
* reactivity on lead to dogs closer than 10m still apparent - but today I became less predictive and zig zagged at a distance around the field - and totally non-reactive - progressing well ❤️
* obedience training Michelle’s working hard, now moving towards distance control and off lead obedience
* off lead - as you will see from the video, sadly I let Norman fail today just as Nairobi and I caught his eye line - BUT on a plus look at that amazing recall and reengagement with mum 💖💖

Last week saw the end of another very successful beginners gundog workshop, attendees have been awesome and now have access and first refusal to our monthly gundog meets run by Alicia Bratby
We now have dates for another beginners gun dog session and numbers will be limited so pre booking is essential.

Tuesday evenings - you must be able to attend all 3 sessions …..

Open to all breeds of gun dog and non-gun dog, 6 months and over.
This 3 part Beginner Gundog course will lay the foundations of retrieve, recall, heel work and connection.
Whether you intend to work with your dog, would like to unlock their genetic potential or just want to have fun with a new sport, Gundog training could be for you.

Norman update !
Today’s visit was very short ! Lol
We had planned to work on reactions to people, when they are coming towards him on walks - er …..this was my first two videos 🤣🤣🤣🤣! Next visit my dogs are coming too….i have no doubt that this non reaction is because we now have a happy relaxed Norman and mum.

De-sensitisation to dog barking noises
Acceptance to head collar (you can see from this video this is amazing - his owner is so much more relaxed that it’s not constantly tight so is only in use when necessary)
Allergies almost under control and no steroid use at the moment
Relaxing work around the streets outside his home to control his hyper vigilance. - much harder to get videos when you’re working ! Lol
The prong collar left by the last trainer (as the only way to control him) remains firmly on the worktop at home !
So happy with his progress in just under a month

Today I went to see Norman…… Norman weighs over 70kg and can be a bit of a wally out on lead (that wasn’t what mum said 🤣🤣). Walks were stressful and dangerous for all…..
So …… we’ve taken the lid off the pressure………. stopped all on lead walks for the time being, and working on trying to get to the root course of the problem….. now going for an elimination diets to try and get to the source of the itching (itching and steroids can exasperate behaviour issues!), and adding in some off lead secure field time during the week, along with some stimulation eating for his dinners and some desensitisation work to the environment starting just on the drive way, and some work on him respecting the other end of the lead………
back next week… all much better than using aversive tools to try and control his behaviour (IMO ❤️)
Already I have a relaxed hooman to work with
Take the foot off the gas !

For those occasions when you don’t want to #recall your dog you could use your leave command, as an interrupter - on this occasion I didn’t use a food enforcer just lots of lovely praise (our first line of reinforcement and often forgotten).

So you want amazing recall?
Our Chelmsford East evening classes are working hard on their recall at the moment, Nairobi took about 12 months to train solid recall to enable her to enjoy this type of freedom. She has now been off lead continuously for a year and still trains in obedience, gun dog (thanks to Alicia's Obedience Dog Training) and agility to help our bond. She also has whistle recall which is even more solid.
During her training time she also had 3 separate occasions that she had some time back on long line to ensure success.
Always remember training is a journey never an end result
Check out the next video for those occasions when you don’t actually want your #dog to recall but you do want them closer and to interrupt what they are doing.

Had such an amazing afternoon at a monthly Gun Dog meets welcoming back Alicia's Obedience Dog Training. So lovely to be able to work in a stunning new venue and watch some of the dogs work through the distractions and new surroundings. Such a great group of friendly people to work and I get to train my own dog too.
We do have room for a couple more on this group, they will need to have trained gun dog before and of similar standard to those in the video (trust me they don’t all get it right all the time !), dogs must be of a good nature to work around other dogs.
