🚘 FLEXI-VISITS 🚘

We understand that vet visits can’t always be planned for, but we want to help our clients where it is possible.

We offer our flexible visit scheme for all vaccination and dental appointments. This allows you to have a visit at half the normal price, starting at only £15 (prices will vary depending on which visit Zone you are in). You can even split a flexi visit with friends on your yard!

To be eligible for a flexi-visit, you must be fully flexible on dates and times that the team may offer you. We will contact you on the morning of your appointment to give you a guide time of when the vet will be with you, this is usually an hours slot.

Please call the office on 01664 511551 for enquiries and registration

🦠 FEI VACCINE CHANGES 💉

The FEl have now introduced a new requirement for the recording of influenza vaccinations. After the 3rd of February, ALL FEI registered horses need to have their vaccinations recorded on the FEl HorseApp by your vet at the time of vaccination.

To make this process as easy as it can be, please could you ensure that:
1. The passport is always present at the time of vaccination
2. If you are an athlete, groom, owner or trainer, please could you enter your horses previous vaccinations onto the FEI HorseApp prior to your vaccination visit
3. Please also remove all rugs at the time of the visit as it may be necessary to take a photo of your horse to confirm their identification

Here is a link to help with filling in ‘historical’ vaccinations - https://howto.fei.org/content/20/304/en/how-to-register-a-historical-vaccination-on-the-fei-horseapp.html

If you have any questions please just ask.

Mud glorious mud…

We feel for all of our clients currently swimming around in a sea of mud but also appreciate the extra mile that clients go to, to help keep our job easy.

Holly, Meisha and Meg (our current veterinary student) had the luxury of not only a cup of coffee and biscuits, but also a bucket and sponge each and warm water to wash the kit down with and our shoes. Ready for the next call.

I am sure before long we will all be discussing how hot and dry it is?!☀️

Does your horse suffer from sweet itch? Do you feel prepared for the summer ahead?

The most important part of managing these cases is stopping the midges getting to your horse, easier said than done! The use of sweet itch rugs and fly repellant are essential, but if you’re already doing all you can and are still struggling with your horse then a vaccination may help. This is an injection we administer to your horse twice, two weeks apart. The vaccination is most effective about a month before the midge season begins so ideally starting these vaccinations before March can see your horse benefit the most.

If you would like to book your horse in for a vaccine or would like to discuss this further with one of our vets then please do not hesitate to get in touch with us on 01664 511551

CPD - Continued Professional Development

As a veterinarian, we must complete a minimum of 35 hours a year of additional education. We use this to increase our knowledge, understanding and experience in a subject area of our choice.

All our vets complete many more than the required hours and enjoy attending lectures, reading published literature and catching up with other vets on their cases and experiences.
Another step that we take to providing the best service we can to our patients.

Guess which vet this was doing extra reading 👀

Did you know how long our gastroscope is…?

Long enough to fit our entire practice team!

At over 3 meters long our scope needs to get from your horses nose right down to the end of their stomach. We pride ourselves on being a small, personal, independent veterinary practice (but still with over 20 years of clinical experience between us), allowing us to really get to know you and your horse.

Diastemata

Gaps between teeth can pack food which can lead to ulceration of the tongue or cheeks. Regular dentistry, especially for older horses, can spot if these problems occur.

The answer is….

Blind wolf teeth.

These were referred on by a great local EDT who spotted two lumps rostral to the 06s. We can use radiographs to help us confirm or differentiate between fractured wolf tooth roots if required, but for this case it wasn’t necessary.

🐎 MEET THE TEAM 🐎

We would like to introduce the newest member of our team, Rachael.
Some of you may have had the pleasure of speaking to Rachael already to book in appointments. In her interview Rachael blew us away with her calm composure (very much needed when in the middle of dealing with multiple emergencies, operations and poorly ponies), organisation and friendly manner. Having horses herself, she knows how precious our four-legged friends are!

A big thank you to all our amazing clients this week who have
🚘 Text us to tell us not too worry if we are late, they just want us in one piece.
☕️ Kept us warm with hot drinks and snacks.
💦 Provided hot water for dentals, cleaning wounds and washing our hands.
❤️ Been truly and utterly kind and caring towards us as vets.

These little gestures are truly appreciated.

Being an independent practice, we are so lucky that our clients (each and everyone of you) mean so much to us and we hope in return we can provide an individual caring service to you. As the week draws to a close we are in high spirits and are so lucky to do the job we love.

☎️ We hope you do not need us but ring the normal number over the weekend and you will be directed to Millie who’s on call.

As an ambulatory practice we try and do as much as we can to keep your horses in the comfort of their own stables. Our portable gastroscope allows horses to be starved at home, hopefully minimising any stress. You also don’t have to worry about transport! Of course we still have our fabulous clinic facilities available should you wish to use them 🐴
