Hot clothing 🧼

Just look at the difference between the left and right side from only hot clothing one side!

Hot clothing is great for removing the grease, loose hair and giving the coat a shine

What you need:
▪️Bucket
▪️Hot water
▪️Cloths or small towels
▪️Second bucket for rinsing
▪️Baby oil or hot clothing oil

Preparation:
▪️Give the horse a good brush
▪️Have a clean rug ready to put on after

Process:
▪️Soak the cloth in the water, wring it out and then use it in circular motions with a bit of elbow grease behind it
▪️Keep rinsing the cloth in the second bucket and then swap cloth’s when it becomes covers in too much hair and grease

Get that shine without bathing the horse!! 🛁🧽

Full Clip 🥶

The full clip is when all the hair is removed from the body, legs and head

This does require careful rugging to ensure they are warm but not overheating so make sure you know your own horse!

Used for horses in HEAVY work as it enables them to dry off quickly after strenuous work and sweating is generally minimised

Make sure you are aware of the increased possibility of rain scald and mud fever due to the lack of hair which is the horses natural protection for the skin

Hunter Clip 🐎

The hunter clip takes off most of the body hair but leaves legs on, half a face and a saddle patch

Usually used for horses in HEAVY work but in the warmer months may be used for horses with cushings that are struggling to lose their coat

Leaving the legs on protects them from the mud and water helping to prevent mud fever. The saddle patch being left helps to protect the back from the saddle

Careful rugging has to be taken into account when either stabled or turned out to prevent them from getting cold 🥶

Blanket Clip 🦄

The blanket clip essentially leaves the hair on to create an exercise sheet shape

Taking the whole neck off, half the face and then running along to the hindquarters to remove any sweaty areas whilst leaving the legs on

Suits horses who are in MEDIUM work but also turned out regularly but might also be cold backed

Trace Clip 🐴

The trace clip gets its name from the fact we clip where the traces of a cart would sit!

The trace removes sweaty areas but keeps a lot of the hair on for warmth. Can either be done with half a face or leaving the face on. By taking more of the neck off and having a higher line creates the clip called a Chaser!

Best suited to horses in LIGHT OR MEDIUM work that are also turned out lots of

Irish Clip 🇮🇪

The Irish clip can be done in multiple ways depending on how much of the neck needs to be removed.

Typically the Irish runs from the stifle to the ears but can be taken from stifle to wither or stifle to jaw. And then either half face taken off, all taken off or all left on

This is a very versatile clip used for horses in LIGHT OR MEDIUM work but keeps the back warm for horses who spend a lot of time in the field

Bib/Strip Clip ✂️

This is a great clip for those in LIGHT work whilst being turned out 24/7!
Simply removing the hair from the underneath of the neck, the chest and then can be carried on under the belly past where the girth sits

Weigh day at my yard last week!

8 weeks since Lightning and Manny’s previous weigh ins. This has helped massively in enabling us to see how much they have lost and to alter their feed accordingly

It also gave us the chance to weigh Teddy for the first time so that we can work out a plan of action!

February has some availability and March has plenty of availability for the weigh bridge so book in asap to avoid disappointment. It’s the perfect time of year to weigh your horses before we start getting the spring grass coming through 🌱
