Christmas can be a lot for dogs. The house is busier, routines change, and everyone wants to say hello. Advocating for your dog might mean stepping in during greetings, asking people to give them space, or setting them up with a quiet area away from the noise.

A lot of people come to me saying they tried so hard to rescue and now they feel like they failed.
No. You did not fail. The system failed you.

Rescues are stretched. Dogs are not assessed properly. People are handed situations they were never prepared for. Then they are left feeling ashamed when it all becomes overwhelming.

Probably shooting myself in the foot here, but seeing people breeding and buying dogs makes me so sad.

Maybe it’s because my feed is just filled with rescues desperate for their second (or third or fourth) chance.

Maybe it’s because every week I’m told about an abandoned dog found in Hackney.

Maybe it’s the fact that dog are killed day after day in pounds and rescues.

Maybe it’s that it’s just downright creepy and eugenicsy to be obsessed with breeds.

Maybe it’s because breeding is so non consensual it’s gross.

I dunno man, but it makes me sick.

The world if full of people telling you that your dog is trying to rule your life, they’re not.

Be worried about the far right, the ongoing genocides, the world burning. But let your dog have a nice life.

I’ve worked with so many foreign rescue dogs over the years and honestly, it’s changed the way I feel about the whole system.

Too many of these dogs are being shipped into homes that aren’t right for them, with little support or honesty from the rescues involved. It’s heartbreaking for both the dogs and the adopters trying to do the right thing.

If you’ve taken on a rescue dog and you’re struggling, please don’t feel ashamed, it’s not your fault. You were probably never given the full picture to begin with.
