I have probably said this to a few people (not clients lol).

Our society is obsessed with having control over dogs, with very little belief that our pets might actually have their own wants, needs, likes, dislikes, and fears.

One of the things I often ask clients if they want their dog to do something is “why?”. Why do you want them to come to the pub on a Friday night? Why do they need to walk right at your heel? Why don’t you want them to sniff that p*e?

Asking ourselves this can really help us think about the drive of a behaviour and whether it’s to satisfy us or the dog.

If the answer is “because I want them to” or “because I told them”, then maybe go to therapist.

If you need help training your dog, and find the obsession with control a bit icky, comment BETA below and I’ll drop you a message!

With fireworks season approaching in London, it’s important to remember that the loud noises can be unsettling for pets, often causing them to run away in fear. Ensuring your pet’s ID tag and microchip information is up to date could be the key to bringing them home if they get lost. A current phone number or address on their tag and microchip helps others contact you quickly if your pet is found. Take a moment before the celebrations start to check this info - it could make all the difference.

It’s amazing how many pets have no info or out of date details on their microchips, so have a little search this evening!

If you need help supporting your dog through this time of year, reach out!

I’ve known Skye and her dads for a few years, from when we used to meet at the local park! Skye lives in a busy part of London that has lots of dogs, which makes reactivity a tricky thing to deal with.

Walks were starting to be something they dreaded, and the urban environment was stressful for all of them. Skye was barking and lunging at dogs, and none of them were having a great time.

Skye and her dads had a holiday booked, and one of our goals was to be able to chill in a pub or cafe when out on a walk. We also wanted to create more neutral response to unknown dogs, and show Skye that she could dismiss things that made her stressed because her dads have her back.

Over the course of just four sessions, we worked on a bunch of behaviours that we could use as alternatives for barking and lunging. As well as building a settle behaviour that could be used in the garden, the park, and eventually pubs and cafes!

Alongside this, we also worked on helping her chill out at home and in the garden without becoming stressed by people walking past and noises outside.

She is now much happier out and about, and her dads have the tools in their pocket to walk her without worrying.

Sound familiar? Book a call and we can get you started on this journey too!

A reward marker is the most important tool that you can have. I like to teach a soft and a hard one, so that one becomes more charged up and always means food is on its way, then a secondary one that serves more as a continuation marker.

I tend to save a clicker for trick training, they’re great for precision but entirely unnecessary for most training when a verbal marker will do!

What questions do you have about reward markers?

It International Dog Day today, and I don’t care much for these weird days, but I do care about what you love about your dog the most.

So tell me below your favourite thing your dog does!

Gracey loves sunbathing so much, but will insist on us being with her so stands at the door staring until we go outside too!

STROLL & SKETCH with and

Sunday September 15th, 12-3pm

Come with or without your dog!

We’ve teamed up to show you one of our favourite walks in our local area! We’ll start with a 1.5 hour stroll through Wanstead Flats and beyond, with space for dogs to play, swim, run and enjoy themselves, and humans to chat and connect. We will then head to our sketching spot where Jo will lead us all in creating portrait of our four legged pals.

You don’t need to have any art background, just a love for your dog and the passion to put that onto paper!

Tickets from £10-25 depending on what you can afford, free tickets available for those who need.

Art supplies, tea and dog chews provided!

Dog attendees must be happy to exist around other dogs and people, if they’re reactive (like Jo and Freya’s dogs), they can stay home and you can learn the route with us and sketch from a photo if you would like!

WOOF! Gen (short for General) has had frustration based reactivity since her adolescence. Which is something I see a lot of! It led to her barking, lunging and growling, which isn’t a great way to make friends.

In London, it’s really bladdy hard to create lots of distance and to work with space on our side, so we had to start with lots of management and making sure we had all the basics mastered.

We had session 3 of 4 and she aces Highbury Fields at peak time with no reactions!

Captain Kalba 👨‍✈️

You might recognise this lil man from puppy class earlier in the year, or from some 1-to-1 sessions in the spring.

His dad has really thrown himself into training Koda as kindly as possible. He’s dedicated time and effort as well as carrying a giant bag of pate on every walk!

For a 9 month old Husky, he is smashing!

But without consistency and dedication from his humans, he wouldn’t be anything like this!

🌟🌟 GO TEAM KALBA 🌟🌟

It’s a heatwave in London this week, with the apps saying 29 degrees. So more people are trying to get out early with their dogs to get their walks in!

But be mindful that the early slot is often sacred to the reactive, nervous, or otherwise crowd averse crew. So make sure you’re helping them out by staying aware! What can this look like?

- If you’re not 100% with your dogs recall, pop a long line on

- Ask before approaching, or letting your dog approach

- If you see a dog on their lead, pop yours on too until you pass

- Keep your eyes out for dog in yellow awareness gear

Are you setting an early alarm?
