Polly recently completed our “Introduction to tracking” workshop, she enjoyed it so much that she even took part in the rain🥳 (unheard of for little Polly)
So her mum booked her a 1-2-1 session to progress her skills in this sport. She had a fab session and really showed off her super sense of smell🔥

Our weekly scent class last night were working on multiple areas. The teams were given 4mins per area and told no more than the perimeter of where to search and that there between 0-5 hides in each area. Teams could bank time for the next area by declaring their current area cleared but got time penalties for missing or false calling hides!

Ranza had a great Tracking 1:1 🐾 This was his first experience of this sport and he gave it all his enthusiasm. Dad and dog learnt a new way of working together to find the prize, slowing down this speedy boy, being rewarded for accuracy and celebrating together at the end🐾

Lovely Louie🥰
Louie’s mum brought him for a Tracking 1:1 to put that incredible nose to use, Louie did amazing but it became clear that after a short time Louie was overwhelmed by the environment and couldn’t do any more thinking. Rather than push Louie we changed our plan and mum left with tools and a plan to work on skills at home to help him next time he is out. After seeing many previous trainers and not getting much help or answers, Louie’s mum now understands him better and has a plan of how to support him mentally and emotionally which will lead to having a better connection together.

Yesterday we met this beautiful little Assistance Dog In Training for the first session on this exciting journey. We spoke through what that journey is going to look like and realistic time scales, before building in some strong foundation behaviours that will be super helpful in many situations. We finished off with looking at some cooperative care techniques and reading puppy’s cues on when she is opting in and out, building another level of trust between this brilliant partnership💕🐾

Just before you pop that flea treatment on your dog, have a quick read of this article from 4 years ago and know that things have only got worse! Also read if you or your kids swim in your local river. (Yorkshire was one of the worst affected counties)

Flea treatments work by damaging the neural pathways to the brain of the insect ONCE IT HAS BITTEN YOUR PET (so it doesn't work until after your pup has already been bitten), It was once ASSUMED that it would not also damage the neural pathways to the brain of your dog, but more recent studies have shown that this was wrong.

This specialist, bespoke course is the start of the journey to training an operational Lost Dog Tracking (LDT) Dog. LDT dogs are trained to follow the specific scent of a dog who has been lost, primarily covering ground in complex tracking environments.
You will spend time learning both theory and practical training over the day, taught by Claire North, an experienced dog trainer and operational LDT handler.

Nelli 🐾

This little Sproodle loves her garden so much that the family have trouble getting her back in.
Each interaction becomes a game of ‘keep away’ with Nelli worrying that she will be taken in and not be allowed back outside.
Foundations were put in of building value in playing specific games with mum, rather than away from mum and, moving these games nearer the house. Management protocols were also put in place to help the family manage the behaviour without stressing Nelli out.
