TOP 3 SEMI FINALISTS 🐴🥳🎉

Firstly well done everyone for getting shortlisted, you all had valid reasons to be chosen for my year 2 of sponsorship, making it tremendously hard to choose a top 3 for one years sponsorship, and one month.

I have chosen the final 3 for each due to the following -

These girls added the most detail to their applications, including honesty regarding not only their talent but also their downfalls that need to be worked on.
This is what I look for...... someone that I can help for the year/month, who knows their weaker areas wanting my help and tuition to make these areas in to strong positives 💪🏼

Also the applicants included how much they wanted the opportunity, and set their own goals to be smashed if chosen!!!

Also I had a few applicants who I would of chosen for my top 3 either last year or next year ..... you will all realise who you are!
These applicants are amazing and added so much detail!
But unfortunately junior riders coming to the end this year.... will not benefit as much due to the fact of selling ponies and finding their first horse!
If this applies to you PLEASE apply for next year as applications were amazing !!!

I decided to choose riders this time that are either pure show jumpers, or choose showjumping as a stronger discipline out of all others, the only reason I done this is because due to this virus, it has really set all of us show jumpers back..... and there’s lots of you who need the training to get back in to the game, especially if you do not have facilities to get good practise in at home.
In different circumstances I probably would of put one of you riders who do a bit of pole work/ low level as applications again amazing!
So try again next year.

As replied to applicants, I was going to post semi finalist who I had narrowed down to help me pick my new sponsored rider.

AGAIN IT HAS BEEN EXTREMELY HARD SO I NEED YOUR HELP‼️‼️‼️‼️

I have narrowed it down to 7 applicants, the seven I have chose caught my attention due to the detail added, showing determination craving the extra help to meet their future goals - which is what I was ultimately looking for.

There also was another 5 applicants I chose that I would like to offer 1 month free lessons to the final chosen rider, as it was such a hard decision to just get to this point I felt generous.

I have decided to carry on my sponsorship after my first year with rianna baker and Chloe knowles.

Unlike last years annual sponsorship choosing a senior and junior rider, this year I will only be choosing one rider to be sponsored by ASJ equestrian.

Both juniors and seniors welcome to apply, plus all levels .... I am on the look out for one rider who is seriously dedicated and eager to learn, wanting to climb up the competition ladder.....
please do not think you are to novice to apply as I do not pick from the most advanced..... i choose from dedication.

I’m giving a lot to offer ONLY because I love coaching, and want to help someone progress through the levels, who honestly wants the help and education.

‼️‼️ £3,780 my new sponsored rider will get in training for the year ‼️‼️

‼️ personalised gilets, saddle pads and fly veils ‼️

‼️ my full support and help during competition at brook farm TC, plus pony shows arena uk ECT plus the opportunity for senior riders to travel in my horse box to away shows, staying with me and being warmed up for classes + course walk. ‼️

05/04/2020

This weeks no 2 exercise was very testing for all horses and liveries! Claire Nowland Elizabeth Donker Curtius Brigitte Granville mylen.

This is gunner who is 6 years old, arriving to ASJ EQUESTRIAN last year he was very weak, and it has been a long road that is still continuing to get his flat work skills to where I want them ..... from the floor his canter work looks great, but having a big shoulder and natural high head carriage it has been hard work to get him lighter in front and building up his muscles behind to be able to ultimately CARRY HIMSELF.
Although he improved a lot through the fan exercise from start of session to this video, there is still lots we can work on to improve 😊

I will also add the yard girls first attempts of this to,
This exercise is a LOT harder than it looks, but the end results are SO rewarding.

A little motivation and excitement to get you all in a more positive mood ( this is for those who can still ride )

All you have to do is video your sessions from today’s exercises I have given, you can do one or both it doesn’t matter if you only do one.... they don’t have to be jumps poles are fine.

All you have to do is send me a video of either the grid work or FAN exercise ( can be both )
And you will be automatically entered in to my raffle FOR FREE to win a bespoke navy fly veil with a gorgeous silver binding 🐴‼️🐴‼️

Each week a prize will be up for grabs free of charge ..... I purchased lots of stock to give away at shows, but obviously this isn’t an option 🤷🏼‍♀️

🐴‼️ No2 EXERCISE FOR WEEK 2 🐴‼️

🌟 THE FAN EXERCISE 🌟

This is a super fun, beneficial exercise that has been around for years..... BUT I have put my own twist on it to make the layout a lot MORE modern.

I have no personal pictures of this layout of yet, but stay around as I will layout and demonstrate by the end of this week.
I have done drawings to show the layouts instead for now.

🐴 It’s called the “ fan “ as you arrange poles in a fan like shape.
The original “ fan “ exercise is named after your standard electrical bedroom fan ...... MY exercise gets the name “ fan “ from the structure of an original hand fan.

🐴 The original exercise has always consisted of 3 - 5 poles only or a circle of poles, being a ( human ) walking distance of 3 between each ( middle to middle ).
I have made my own creation up for the Fan exercise as firstly 4 of our walking strides between each pole is 1 horse stride, 3 of our strides is for a pony ..... the ( fan affect ) is to get you to not only use the middle but also the insides and the outsides.
The inside line would be ridiculously to SHORT to ever be able to canter between on a nice working canter, and the outside line would just basically be a “ normal “ canter stride.

SO ..... MY version ..... is to walk 4 human strides in the middle of each pole, making sure you walk a GENEROUS 4 lengths.... walking the middle a little longer means the inside shorter distance isn’t such a short stride ....... the AIM of this exercise is to be able to canter through the middle, inside and outside lines making sure to keep the same track line between each but for each line to ALSO be a REACHABLE goal ....... with my distances between each for the fan exercise it will be unlike the original.......
Your middle line will be a normal working canter, the inside line will be a collected canter, and your outside line will be a gear up from your middle line working canter.

🐴 Distances for pony riders -
Up to 12hh - walk 3 of your steps, making them a little shorter than usual.
12.2 - 13.2 - walk 3 strides of your steps, walking normal lengths.
14hh - 14.2hh walk 3 strides of your steps, being generous between each... 10 inches - 16 inches added to a normal 3 strides .... or just under half a foot.

‼️🐴‼️ SERPENTINE FAN ——- In the drawing you will see 2 x fan trot poles and 1 line through the middle of arena.
Again stick with striding said above for fan and then for middle distance start normal 3 if pony 4 if horse .... if you find the poles are a long reach catapulting you out the saddle, you basically have a flat, motionless boring canter to put it blunt.
You need to find your happy medium working canter, adding more leg next time around.
With this exercise you can change things around for example once you are getting rhythmic strides between each pole ( middle of serpentine ) you can then either lengthen this distance so you are aiming for middle of inside line of FAN .... to then start to push the canter forwards for a longer middle distance, to then shorten again for your next FAN.

OR you can shorten strides between each pole ( middle of serpentine ) you can then aim for the outside line of the FAN, starting on a very forward canter ... to then shorten for your middle distance, to then lengthen again for your next FAN.

🐴 My last picture is just adding another pole to FAN exercise.... if you have room in arena, sticking to same distances.

Ive added a pic of what your strides should be 😊
Enjoy people!!!!

31/03/2020

I will be adding 2 exercises this week to my page for you all to try out and work on!

My first one I have added ( pictured ) is something I have set up for tomorrow for me and liveries to use.

‼️ Firstly, if you don’t want to jump at this moment in time that is absolutely fine as you can simple use poles instead for this exercise!

🐴 A simple grid, if set and ridden down correctly can be very beneficial for ALL types of horses.

🐴 An explanation of how it will help my horses ( youngsters and older horses ).

- OLDER HORSES WHO ARE REGULARLY OUT COMPETING - After jumping course after course, our horses can start to forget the basic necessities they learned when first starting out, becoming heavy and strong in the contact not wanting to wait for the rider on approach to jumps.
This grid will get them working correctly again, having to wait for the rider using their muscles and hind legs correctly.

- YOUNGSTERS - firstly the quit obvious.... to learn how to back off a jump/pole getting an idea where to put their legs 🙈
Learning how to become more collected in the canter, sitting down behind and becoming lighter in front also helping to gain more muscle and strength behind.

A FUN EXERCISE EVERYONE CAN USE.

‼️ How to lay this grid out ‼️

Start with a bounce ( walk 4 ) This will naturally back your horse off coming in.
Then walk 2 horse strides ( walk 12 ), next part will be 1 stride ( walk 8 ) finishing on a bounce ( walk 4 ).
Make sure you don’t walk the distances to long as the whole idea is to get the horse waiting and listening.

25/03/2020

( My same post just vanished for some reason so posting again )

I am going to start with a really easy yet effective flat work exercise 🐴

If you have a longer arena, able to get in 8 canter strides down the long side simply do the following ➖

Place a cone/jump stand or something similar to identify your start and finish point 0.5M from the corner of your arena.

Walk 8 canter strides ( 32 steps between your start & finish. )
Depending on your width of arena maybe diagonally is your longest surface area, if this is the case the exercise can still be completed as long as your start and finish are in a straight line.

🔴 Firstly try and achieve 8 strides as you walked between start and finish, you may find your canter is not strong enough to get 8 equal strides, in fact adding down the line - meaning you need to work more on a WORKING canter rather than a COLLECTED canter.

If this happens simply just add a fraction more leg down the opposite long side preparing for the next, relaxing your hands and becoming a little lighter in your seat.

NEXT —— once you have aced your 8 strides work on collecting the canter to get 9 strides, then 10 and carry on to a maximum of 12.

After collecting to 12 strides ( make sure you can keep the rhythm down the line 2/3 times on 12 ) Try to go back down the line on 8 strides...... so we are going from 12 to 8.
I bet you £10, if you have never done this exercise before you will not be able to go from 12 - 8, video and I will eat my words if you do and owe £10😝

Once you get back to 8 strides, start to work more on that working canter work on opening the canter up..... as we will then be going 8 stride, 7 stride, 6 stride.
We do not want a rushed out of control canter........ we want a controlled rhythm where we can open up the horses canter by lengthening the stride, simply apply more leg and relax your hands a little.... BUT when we ask MORE from our usual working canter it is very easy to allow the horse to end up on the front end ( forehand ) SO with this in mind when you are preparing before your line make sure to add a few small half halts, just to make sure your horse is still working correctly from behind and not leaning on your hand ( you should feel more of a bounce in the canter ).

You can then keep playing around with strides 😊

If you have a smaller arena do 6 strides ( 24 of your steps ) and do the exact same just minus 2 strides on each 😊
This is a simple but AMAZING exercise for ALL riders.

🐴 SHOWJUMPERS - understanding the gears your horse has in canter ( I’m sure there is a lot more than you thought )
REALLY helping you in prep for jumping shows now knowing you CAN make the distances, feeling relieved that adding or taking out strides CONFIDENTLY is more than achievable.

DR/FLAT WORK RIDERS - ultimately getting a better understanding and feel between the two different canters “ working canter “ and “ collected canter “.
Your horse becoming more responsive to your leg after this exercise, also contributing to muscle build up.
Being able to ask for different gears in the canter without the horse ending up on the forehand feeling heavy in the contact, keep doing this exercise correctly and your horse will feel as light as a feather in the contact through the gears of canter.

IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS FINDING IT HARD TO COLLECT OR LENGTHEN, MAYBE YOUR HORSE STILL FEELS HEAVY IN THE CONTACT.... JUST MESSAGE ME AND I WILL HELP YOU!!!!
