This is the lump in the area of where daisy's eye was. It's not as red or big now. So I'm hoping it goes away or stays the same. She may always have it but if it doesn't change or grow anymore in the next week then I won't have any worries about releasing her.
Just out of the vets.
They cut of the stitch. They think the lump may be due to something like a bit of hair in the wound from when she was shaved for the opp. Or something irritating the area. As its less red today they think he will sort itself out. Just got to keep a eye on it. So im keeping in for a bit longer. They did say that it may never go away, but as long as its not bothering her she will be able to go home soon.
It was nice not to be charged anything either. I also got to give the trainee who was with us in the room a lesson in hedgehog anatomy and the ways to get them to unfurl etc.
So glad I have a great vets and who are willing to learn to.
Waiting at the vets for daisy. After I posted about her eye stitch dissolving a red lump appeared at the corner of the wound site.
It's grown slightly each day. So now she's being gassed down to have it looked at. Just when I thought she was ready to go home.
I've just been going through the figures for the year of how many hedgehogs have come to me.
Sadly their were 7 hedgehogs that either died or had to be pts.
I released 11 that were still in from 2022.
I've got 9 in that will be released soon.
I have released 21 hedgehogs so far this year.
3 of these hedgehogs have been repeat offenders lol.
So not including the last year over winters. 30 hedgehogs have been saved. Which is up sightly on last year.
I know compared to other rescues that's not a lot but I do this on a daily basis around full time work, on my own. I have no help but that's how I choose it to be for now.
Thank you to everyone that has rescued hedgehogs this year. Even if they didn't survive they were given help and thank you to everyone that has donated in any way to help me help the hedgehogs.
It's now time to get stocked up on items ready for the new year. Hopefully I will be able to help more hogs next year and not be closed so much due to being over full.
Pictures of just some of the hogs that have gone free this year.
Happy new year.
Thank you x
Need this horrible weather to do one. I've got sooty, xander, tiggy, vinny and William all ready to go back free just need few dry days.
Wishing you good health, happy times, and hedgehogs in your garden! 😊🦔❤️
New scales a Christmas present from my partner. His thinking was the shape of the bowl will make it harder for a hog to do a runner. We will see if he's right. But it does mean that my old set can now go and be used for the hogs outside in the undercover area as the ones I had out their weren't much good.
Omg what a stressful 24hrs. I went beach fishing with my partner last night to our usual place on the Norfolk coast.
All set up all going well sitting their catching lots loving the sounds of the waves and the tawny owls hooting in the trees in the distance. Half way through the session a freak huge wave comes up over the shingle Bank and soaks us. (I had said to him i think we should have set up a bit further back) My phone was in my bag by my seat. Ruined along with everything else. Phone wont work can't access anything.
Roll on to today having to find a new phone as can't use the other one. Settings it up but couldn't access my page or any contacts in my messengers.
The stress of it. Finally after trying everything possible I get everything back up and working.
Only plus to coming home soaking wet and freezing cold was that on the twisty back roads for some of the way home we got to see lots of deer and the real heart stopper was a hedgehog running across the road in front of us. we was already driving soo slow because the deer were all over the place. I so wanted to stop the car and scoop the little one up but they looked in great shape/size and i was happy to leave them to it.
The other bonus was kfc was open for some hot food!.
Holly has hopefully finished her course of meds. She just needs to keep putting on weight. Now up to 598gms.
Let the sort out begin. Its going to take a while as ive done my back in but im pushing through the pain to do it a little at a time. Those two wardrobes are moving out of the hog room. I've managed to just about squeeze their contents into just the one and their going into the bedrooms.
That whole wall will then have a racking system set up once I buy one. Thank you to lisa cook who gave us a Christmas present of £50 this money will go towards the racking. Then hopefully I will have no more cages stacked on the floor as I've had no room to have them up of the floor as the two racks I already have are full of cages.
Once it's sorted all the hog related stuff that's taking up space in my bedroom can finally all be in one room.
Merry Christmas everyone. Thank you to everyone that has supported me to help the hoggys this year through donations of money, food and items of the wish list. This help really does make a difference and I wouldn't be able to help as many hogs with out the support.
Also thank you to all the finders that have helped rescue the hoggys in the first place, even if they didn't make it they didn't suffer a horrible death alone, they were found and helped.
My partner has collected all the leaves from the back yard for me and I've added them to the empty nest boxs and filled big buckets wedged on their sides so that they can be used by any hog that decides to stay.
Big Thank you to Isabella for your £30 donation. And Peter for another £10 from the sale of hedgehog houses. This money and all the money that's left from donations is going towards a big expensive medicine's shop.
Daisy's stitches in her eye have finally dissolved. A bit of one can just be seen in the picture. Their have been no problems with it at all. Looks like she's ready for home, when the weather is right.
Phil finally after the best part of 3 months sleeping is awake and going free tonight. Every other time he's woken up for the odd day or two and I've been ready to put him out he's gone back to sleep.
Found as a baby in my garden with a sibling, at 191gms with coccidia. He needed syringe feeding for a little while as kept loosing weight.
Treated for lungworm and cap to.
Of back out at 826gms.
Holly tucking in. After four days of loosing weight and still being unsettled and having the most horrible green smelly poos finally after the second round of meds she's started to calm down and gained weight.
The larger snuggle pouches my mum made have come in handy as she did have a igloo home to sleep in but my partner said she spent all day banging it around while she was struggling with the fluke.
Once she got in a pouch and meds started to work she calmed right down.
Holly's slowly gaining weight and thanks to the meds she's calmed down and not running around the cage in pain from the fluke. But every time I look at her I feel for her how thin she is, she should be round in shape.
Mad couple of days, but got 5 hoggys back out free.
Rose, found in my garden weighing 285gms. She was covered in seed ticks and sample checks showed fluke, lungworm cap and coccidia. I had real problems ridding her of the cap and coccidia but we got their. She went back out weighing in at 982gms.
Oliver, a flying return visit. Seen in my garden covered in ticks. In at 972gms, treated for the ticks and a high cap burden. He was back out in 5 weeks weighing in at 1263gms.
Sweep came in at 129gms, came in with her sibling sooty but he's still not quite ready to go so sweep went back home at 673gms. She was treated for fluke and coccidia after having to be hand fed because she was so weak.
Last out was lavender 80gms and tulip 84gms, they came in with their sibling daisy who's had to have her eye removed so she's going home at a later date.
When they were brought to me I spent hours removing fly eggs and tiny maggots from their body's they were even in the ears. I had to keep checking them through the night removing ones that appeared. They were very weak but they pulled through and after being treated for bad ringworm and for cap and coccidia they went back home at 745gms and 763gms. No after pictures as they were very uncooperative lol.
While I was busy sorting the first two releases out on Friday night after work my partner shouts up the stairs that he's seen a hog on the cameras in our front drive. OK I said we'll it has just gotten dark. But it was on the bank near the road. He opened the front door and said its still their. So to put our minds at ease I go look at it. I Could see straight away it was skinny with a dipped neck. So in she comes. Only weighs 500gms but should be a lot more. She goes in a newly sterilised cage and is tucking into a tiny bit of food within a minute of me putting her in their. She was given fluids and her poos were bad. Very high fluke and cap eggs she was running round the cage. So she had pain meds to which helped her settle.
I have told my partner to stop finding hogs in need lol as I'm not ment to be taking any in, I'm ment to be getting them all out.
Think I will name her Holly.
Thank you to mandy and Alison for your paypal donations towards the hedgehogs care.
Weather is perfect for the next few days. Freedom awaits for some from tonight onwards.

This is xander also found in October, we was coming back from shopping one lunch time on the back roads and my partner who was driving shouts hedgehog at the side of the road as we drives past it. So after a couple of swear words come out of my mouth I was saying turn the car round. Coz I need anymore hogs lol.
Jumped out the car and grabbed him before a lorry come past.
He was only 282gms has mild ringworm but his spines had infection in them so he had antibiotics, few ticks and fleas and samples showed lungworm and cap. So after he was warmed up he had a warm medicated bath and has lived in my incubator as it was the only place left for him to go.
He's still having ringworm and cap treatment but he's now 719 gms.
I've realised theirs been two hogs I've got in that I've not mentioned.
This is I think Oliver. He's now a repeat offender. I had him in back in June found in my garden with a body full of ticks of all sizes and was also treated for lungworm and cap. He was released in July.
He's been here since October found once again at my feeding station with a body full of ticks. Even though I was full I couldn't leave him. He's been a easy patient probably about 50 ticks removed and treated for cap. He's now going into a hutch under my covered area to wait for some better weather to go free.
Daisy's eye is healing well it doesn't look much different from the day it was done it looks that good. It's held together with wound glue and dissolvable stitches. Theirs been no discharge from the surgery site so it's looking good.
Thank you time again.
Thank you Isabella who runs Willows & Wool animal sanctuary for your donation of hedgehog biscuits.
Thank you to Peter for your donation of straw and for the £20 in donations from the sales of his hedgehog houses. Some of this money will cover the remainder of daisy's eye surgery bill.

Very true, I've had hogs in the feeding stations when theirs snow on the ground.
Me again!
Like many people who live with autoimmune gremlins, I'm really grateful to nature and creativity for the clever knack they have of taking my mind off things without me even realising!
Everyday symptoms and looming hospital visits are pushed right out of my head every time I design on behalf of wildlife, especially if it's something new.
Anyway... I recently had a lupus checkup and this artwork was the result 😄
It's based on a wee doodle of mine that's been hiding in a sketchpad for ages. Hope you like it. If not, be warned - there's more on the way as I've got a rheumatology review next month 😁
I hope your day is a good one x
Thank you sooty & sweeps finder for £40 towards daisy's vets bill, so kind x
What should have been a good week turned into a very stressful one. Two releases.
Uri in at 172 grams treated for lungworm, fluke and cap. Back out the door at 700 grams.
Sprinkles in at 130 grams treated for lungworm, cap and coccidia. Went back out at 784 gram.
Thank you to the finders for saving them and for dian and her husband for providing them both with a lovely garden home.
Next weekend the three siblings tulip, lavender and daisy were ment to be going back home to their finders garden but at the moment only two will be going.
None of them have been very cooperative during their treatment for ringworm but i got their and their now free of it.
I was doing the clean outs on Thursday and was weighing daisy. On doing so I thought she didn't look right in the face. She had a big scab forming over her eye.
On checking it out I knew she needed to go to my vets. And that's ware she has stayed until I picked her up today and settled the vets bill. Somehow she's caught her eye, it may have been on a bit of straw we don't know. Yesterday while I was on the Vale hedgehog first aid course she had surgery and they decided to remove the eye.
She back home now the vets are very happy with how it went.
The picture is not nice (the last picture) but the vets have done a great job.
Just has to heal and she can go home.
I'm very lucky to have a vets that's willing to help my spikey patients.

Don't get to see adult roundworms full of eggs under the scope very often. Meds are doing their job.
Lavender, daisy and tulips last bath for ringworm. Showing a little self anointing to. Drying of in the incubator. Their all over 700gms now a big difference to when they first come in and could all fit on one hand. They have been a nightmare to treat for ringworm, I would normally do baths along with daily sprays of the medication but it's hard to do that when they don't want to unfurl. Their hopefully on their last round of coccidia treatment to. So they should be going home soon.
The little girl that was found by dian on Thursday has been named Timignon. Dian's grandchildren who live in France named her and it mean cutie. I may place her with vinni and ursula for company as their only slightly bigger than her after sample checks tomorrow. She's 141gms today and she certainly has a good appetite.
A little brighter this morning, as expected they dropped a few grams in weight over night. Samples showing lungworm and cap eggs so far so I will start treatments for those.
Just thought I would show you the reason I say I'm only a micro rescue. I do it on my own with no help because I do it mostly from my spare room. In here is two hutches 7 medium zoozones one large zoozone and the incubators. All these cages/hutches and the big incubator are in use. Outside under my covered area I also have four hutches. So when I say I am full I really do mean it. Even if I don't stick to the number I say I shouldn't go over which is ten. Because I'm no good at sticking to that number I'm back up to 15 lol The plan is to convert one of the wardrobes that's in this room into a extra shelving unit by using the doors as shelves. If I can condense the two of these which are full of clothes into one! So I can get my floor space back. (Not so I can take in more). Desperately need these release to happen so I can get some us time back.
You would think she don't get fed the way she's shovelling that food down, slow down Sprinkles. Up to 410gms.
Sooty and sweep have upgraded to the large zoozone after a move around. Sooty is now 227gms and sweep 339gms. They will have their second round of fluke meds tomorrow. Nothing else has shown in samples so far.
Tulip, daisy and lavender still got a way to go to beat the ringworm. Hopefully they have just had the last round of meds for cap.
Bev the finder of this little one has named her sprinkles. As you can see she from her eating from this shallow pringles lid she has a big appetite. She's perked up no end from yesterday. Samples are clear so far. I've upgraded her to my only spare box as she was trashing the tiny incubator which is not designed to keep hogs in for any length of time. Theirs not really space for a bed and food. The new bigger incubator for which chosen has very kindly donated the money for should be here by the end of the week.
She's picked up a little now she's warmed up, Bev since you brought her in she needs a name I'm doing the alphabet so I need a name beginning with S if you have one.
Drying off in the incubator after having their first medicated bath as their showing signs of ringworm on their bellies.
These 3 are growing up fast. Little lavender is now 148gms catching up the other 2. Tulip is 154gms and daisy is 190gms. They start their next set of coccidia treatment tomorrow. I've upgraded them to a igloo home as it was getting a little cramped in the snuggle pouches for them and their now making so much mess. Plus it saves me a load of washing lol.
The 3 babies are growing up. Daisy was 89gms when she come in. She's now 151gms. Tulip was 84gms, she's now 122gms. She lost weight for a couple of days. But a green poo Confirmed coccidia so their all being treated for that. Lavender who was the runt of the litter was 80gms and is now 115gms so after the first few days of hand feeds she's going great.
All made the night and feeding themselves mostly this morning. Little lavender gained 1 gram. The other two lost a couple of grams but it was a stressful time for them yesterday being handled so much to remove the fly eggs. I'm glad I did a midnight check and last feed as I found more eggs and the ear on lavender that had a big clump of fly eggs in looked red. So I checked it and some tiny maggots were their. She had been treated with a spray to kill of any but these must have not been touched by the liquid. So I removed them and treated them all again just to be safe.
I've just done this video to show just how bad little Ralph's parasite burden is. After showing you the photo this morning. This is just one slide under the microscope. I've filmed on my phone from the laptop using laptop camera attachment to the microscope. So bare with it as I had to pause to move the slide over. As you can see it's full of cap eggs with the odd lungworm wriggling around to. Theirs also fluke eggs in his sample to. So he's very poorly, even though he's been tucking into food he has stayed the same weight as yesterday. But when I cleaned him out just now it looked liked he had been going around his cage, which will be mostly down to the fluke. 😥
