✨✨✨ Suppliments✨✨✨

I swear my horse has a better diet than I do 😂😂😂

Many horses are fed additional supplements. These are added to a horses feed for three main reasons: to ensure nothing is lacking from the horses diet, to address a specific health concern or to enhance performance.⭐️⭐️

Supplements can be used to address a specific health concern, such as weak hooves, laminitis or reduced flexibility in older horses. There is a huge range of horse supplements available, some providing very targeted, specific nutrients and others that contain a wider spectrum of vitamins and minerals. Many are herbal or natural herbs your horse would naturally seek out whilst grazing.🤩🤩

But we do need to remember that sometimes our horses are getting everything they need so it’s important to ask the good old question of “does my horse need a supplement?”. Could be your horse is on a strict diet and not getting particularly minerals or that your horse is just getting a bit older and needs a wee helping hand. 🥰🥰

For me, I’m using Naked Horse product “Hercules” to help develop/maintain Zorro’s muscles. It also helps to support stamina. Hopefully keep Zorro in tip top condition while we are both competing and in our down time 🖤🖤

Another Sunday at Wellsfield Livery and Equestrian Centre🤩🤩. All my girls did exceptionally well today, as usual pushing them to their limits with collection and extension work 😎😎. Some girls had never done this before so was a very good learning experience for them. Some horses were easier than other for this exercise but everyone tried their best and achieved the best possible results 🥳🥳🥳

Well done everyone 🖤🖤

🖤🤍🤎 COB FACTS 🖤🤍🤎

Now I don’t know many people who don’t love a Cob. Most of us learned to ride because of a trusty little Cob. They are cracking horses in my opinion and deserve all the love in the world because if it wasn’t for them, I bet most of us wouldn’t be riding today.

🖤Cobs are one of the most popular riding horses in the UK. They are hardy, versatile, able to turn their hoof to most things from low level dressage, eventing, or to driving and hacking along roads. Some have even went on a won Horse of the year show

🤍The Cob is not really a breed; technically, it’s a type. We will get on to different “types” of horses in a later day

🤎While Cobs have a reputation for being steady and sensible however some Cobs can be quite sharp and forward. I like to call them “turbo Cobs”

🖤There are 2 types of Cob. The traditional Cob and the Show Cob. Traditional Cobs have striking looks and have a reputation for being safe and steady. They are used in most riding schools and can give anything a try. Show Cobs on the other hand don’t have feathers and are hogged. They should look very similar to a Hunter.

🤍Cobs originated in Ireland. In the pre-machinery days, Cobs were many landowners’ choice of horse to work hard in the fields. Their innate strength and adaptability made them effective Farm workers.

Hi everyone!! 😁😁

So just a little notice to make all clients aware that I do have a “24hr cancellation”policy in place. As I’m sure you guys are aware this is my full time job and if a client cancels in a short space of time it is very hard for me to fill that gap. I completely understand that life happens but if possible to give me as much notice as possible really does go a long way.

Hope you all have a fab day

🤎Clydesdales🤎

So I got a request to do some facts on “Clydesdale” horses next. Now if anyone has seen the “Budweiser adverts” im sure you’ll will agree with me about how majestic these animals are. I have the pleasure of working with a young Clydesdale and I simply adore her. These animals have a rich history and have really enjoyed reading about them. ENJOY 🤩🤩

🤎Clydesdale horses are one of the largest overall breeds in the world. The average height of a Clydesdale will generally exceed 18 hands in height. Many are also more than 6 feet in length. This means each horse will typically weigh over 1 ton.

🤎Clydesdales have the strongest genetics for feathering. “Feathering” is the hair that exists around the hooves and ankles of the horse. In the history of this breed, it has always had this hair. It is believed that this trait was developed or evolved naturally in order for the horse to deal with the colder winter temperatures of Scotland. The strength of the feathering genetics is used by other breeds, including Shires, to improve the feathering in their own breed standards.

🤎The Clydesdale used to be a popular war horse. When warfare involved using Calvary and horses as an advantage, Clydesdales were one of the most popular because of their weight and size. They also has a uniquely calm disposition, which meant that they could go into various situations without getting spooked. It is believed to be why they are still such a friendly and docile horse today, despite its massive size.

🤎Clydesdales are considered to be endangered. In 1975, the official number of Clydesdales in the world was just 80. Today there are more than 5,000 that have been registered for this breed.

🤎The pulling power of a Clydesdale is absolutely incredible. A single Clydesdale may be able to pull up to 8,000 pounds (3600 KG) for a short period of time. They can also pull a carriage which may weight 200-400 pounds (180 KG) for up to 8 hours per day.

🖤Friesian facts🖤

So I’ve put together some amazing facts about my favourite/Zorro’s breed. Now some things I’m sure most people know but some things even shocked me. Just like to share these amazing facts about this beautiful/fascinating breed 🥰🥰 ENJOY!!

🖤 Friesian horses as some of the oldest equine breeds, having existed since 1000 B.C. The Friesian horse came from Friesland, located on the northern side of the Netherlands. It is believed that the breeds that produced Friesians were used on battlefields in the Middle Ages to transport armored knights. As the years went by, the weapons and armor got lighter and lighter there was little demand for large war horses.

🖤 Friesian horses were almost extinct. With the increased use of cars and farm machinery, the use of horses reduced significantly and resulted in Friesian breed becoming nearly extinct. Before the First World War, it is reported that there was a time when there were only three stallions left. Oldenburgs were used to bring Friesians back.

🖤 Friesians have a likable temperament. These horses have been found to be highly intelligent and friendly with humans, other breeds, and even other animals.Friesians are also incredibly loyal with a calm character. They show great willingness to learn which makes training effortless.

🖤 Not all friesians horses have a black coat Most Friesians have an all-black coat, mane, and tail. But not all Friesians come in a black coat. There are some that are chestnut in color but are very rare and they are called “Fire Friesians”

🖤 Friesians have a carriage specifically build for them. The first carriage, the Friesian Sjees, designed in the 18th century and was basically a chair on wheels. This carriage is still used today at horse shows and festivals, with a few modifications to fit modern breeds.

This is the stuff dreams are made of 🥰🥰

My clients tonight Natalia and Emily are young riders I used to teach years ago and now I’m back teaching them on their own loan horses.

Both girls did incredibly well as we worked through our “scales of training” with length of an shortening strides. Both girls now have a deeper understanding of why we as riders use these “scales” and how to get the best out of our horses by using them correctly.

So nice to be part of their riding education again and super excited to see them both thrive!!! Well done girls 🥳🥳🥳

Importance of variety 💫💫💫

When working our horses it’s very important to keep their interest when in the school. If you keep working on the same exercise they will get bored and eventually turn “school sour” 😭😭

Yes Zorro and I do a lot of dressage and flat work however we do love our jumping. We try to do some jumping once a week just to keep us both entertained and motivated with new challenges. 🥳🥳

Doesn’t matter if it’s poles or 1m fences. A little bit of something different goes a long way in the school🥰🥰

A little information about us 🖤🖤

Zorro came into my life 5yrs ago in August. After a year of getting to know each other we started our dressage career ✨✨✨

We started off unaffiliated at Intro level and worked our way up, taking what judges said on board and worked incredibly hard to do better. Now we compete affiliated at Novice level and working towards Elementary.

Now I know Zorro isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and I’ve learned that along the way. He is full Friesian and has typical Friesian movements which aren’t always preferred in dressage but I’ve learned to pick up extra points with his stronger movements and to just enjoy the ride as his willing attitude and great work ethic makes it all worth it 🥰🥰🥰. In our downtime we love a beach ride and hacking. Zorro’s favourite thing is to jump so we keep that as a treat doing little unaffiliated shows or playing at home 🥳🥳🥳

This is something I teach to my clients that you work with what you have. Not everyone has millions of pounds to spend or an Olympic size arena. We do this sport because of our passion for horses and sometimes we aren’t walking away with 1st place rosettes or have to admit today maybe isn’t our day. However to be able to say “I done better than last time” or “at least I’m trying” should be enough.

As a coach I’m all about “trying is enough” and it doesn’t matter if you have a little horse worth £500 or the next “Glamourdale”. If they have a big heart and willing to jump the moon for you or will dance their little socks off. As long as you’re trying, you’re already winning 🖤🖤🖤

20/07/2023

Why hacking is important 😎😎😎

Whether it's just a leisurely hack through the woods or a conditioning ride up and down hills, getting your horse outside the arena on a frequent basis can be hugely beneficial to you both. As it helps to build the horse’s strength, stamina, trust and courage.
These are just some of the benefits your horse gets from hacking as well as experiencing new environments, becoming desensitised and allowing your horse to enjoy themselves. Hacking also allows the rider to take a moment to enjoy the ride with their best friend and build on their partnership. Sometimes hacking gives the rider a chance to take a look at the bigger picture and be able to figure out their next move in competing or just life in general.

“Hacking is good for the soul”

Had such an amazing time teaching the lovely Natalia who I used to teach years ago. Still a beautiful rider and now has the joy of loaning Max. Definitely getting some big things planned for this pair in the next few months 🤩🤩🤩

Working on some bending tonight with the fabulous Emily and Phoenix. Working on spirals and some “shoulder forth”. Very very tricky night for them but they did so so well!!!! Lots of homework for these two but they are certainly coming on leaps and bounds 🥰🥰🥰
