Every year Meg let's me know when the berries are ready for eating. Meg will eat all the berries within her reach and I keep the ones higher up for myself...which I mostly use as her training treats 🤣 I love the sound of her munching 😍
Does your dog like to forage for berries? 🍓🫐

The second part of my MSc assessment was to teach a complex novel behaviour (a chain of individual behaviours).
I decided to teach Meg how to pull a sock off my foot and place it into my hand when given the “hosan” cue (Welsh word for sock).
This was incredibly fun as I had never asked Meg to interact with my feet before, and her enthusiasm was contagious.
I implemented a technique called backward chaining, where you learn the sequence of behaviours backwards.
This video gives a glimpse into how I taught Meg the 'hosan' cue.

My first MSc assessment was to teach an animal a single behaviour under the stimulus control of a verbal cue. It required me to design and implement a training plan, document the training process and discuss the learning theory underpinning my methods.
This is a snippet from the finished presentation - teaching Meg to target a white coaster using her paw when given the verbal cue 'point'

Happy Valentines everyone!
Don't forget to show your dogs some love 💕
This is Barnie after 5 minutes of off lead snuffling this morning.
This is 22c at 8.30am in the shade of the woods. Barnie loves flushing out birds so I've broken up his walk with 5 minutes off lead, a rest at a bench to get his breath back and then back on lead.
I have been in this spot for roughly 5 minutes and Barnie has explored non stop.
Sometimes it's nice to just sit in the woods and let our dogs explore uninterrupted.
He checks in with me now and then to make sure I've not moved on without him and I reward this everytime.
Letting your dog explore independently (in a safe area) is a great way to build their confidence.
Walks shouldn't be about the physical exercise alone, stopping to sniff the flowers is important too 🌻
Barnie moving amongst the high ferns is giving me Jarassic Park raptor vibes 🦖

Mental enrichment for dogs doesn’t need to be complicated. This might seem too easy for Alpha but building up her problem solving and investigation skills slowly prevents her getting frustrated and encourages her to try new things.
Good job Alpha 👏
It's been a very long month not seeing Seamus and Myrtle 🥰 I've missed them loads.
Today we took a lovely walk by the river so that they could cool off during the warm weather.
Both were on their best behaviour, walking lovely past people on narrow pavements.
When taking on new dogs it's really important I am aware of any health issues as this can have an impact on training.
When Ezra's vet said he was carrying a little extra weight, his Mum made sure that the treats we used in training did not interfere with his health goals.
By simply reducing his food allowance at meal times meant his treats for training didn't impact his weight.
Ezra's Mum messaged me today to say he's lost 1kg in 2 weeks! 🥳
Well done both, you're a fab team and can't wait to see you next week 💙
